They are locally owned, have a great selection and felt truly customer-oriented. I ended up purchasing one of their branded mattresses and, two years later, no regrets. Avoid at all costs. I checked out the TEMPUR-ProAdapt® Medium Hybrid - King on Matthews Mattress' website. The pricing was online and they are a local business, so I headed over to their Napa location at 1:30pm on 4/16, as it is the closest mattress store to me. I went in and was greeted by a middle aged man who appeared as if he had better things to do than help me. After asking where the mattress was located, I was told they do not carry this mattress; "never have and never will." I asked about some other brands and materials that I researched online and was asked "what are you a mattress spy or something? Customers don't come in with as much knowledge as you do about these products." I looked at some of the other brands, asked for his advice on AirLoome and asked for a business card. Shortly after, he made a comment about grabbing a beer and talking about mattresses and working in the mattress industry. To upper management/ownership: I was ready to spend ~$15-20k in your Napa store and that sale has now gone to one of your local competitors. Customers have the ability to research products online. We're not complete idiots and deserve to be treated better than this. read more

I have been long overdue for a new mattress and when stores started to reopen I began my my mattress browsing. Matthews Mattress in my opinion has the been variety of mattresses. Some other stores seemed to carry very high end and lower end with no much in the middle. David Antigua helped me the morning I came in and was very helpful, not pushy at all. Super friendly and really let me roam and try out a lot of different beds. The customer service works here because I ended up spending a little over $300 than I originally intended. I fell in love with a mattress that was the last one tried. David has shown me this mattress after getting a feel for what I wanted. * Two cooling pillows and a mattress padded liner were thrown in along with a frame. Delivery was fast and easy, guys worked quick and had masks on. They were gentle with taking my old mattress out and the new one in. About two weeks ago I bought a $4,000+ bed in this store the salesman was very helpful and friendly. I went back today to buy a twin size bed, the lady in charge of the store said that the twin size bed wouldn't fit my SUV. She wanted me to have it delivered on Monday, she was really pushing for a delivery fee. After spending almost $5000 in this store, all one can expect Is a good quality service. This place is awesome. I've been to other mattress stores where the prices are way over the advertised price on the Internet and the employees stare at you intently while you try to find a comfortable position on the mattress...creepy. The guy here was really helpful and I feel like I got a good deal. We ordered our mattress and fancy frame. Because we bought the mattress late on Sunday, it was delivered the next day. We slept on the mattress and decided it was too soft so we called the store and he took care of us. We went back that night and picked out the one we really wanted (which was the one he recommended we get in the first place) and delivered it the next day, totally free. I was so relieved and have been enjoying my new mattress ever since. On top of all that, that fancy bed frame I ordered was out of stock and was not restocked in the amount of time estimated so we got a higher model for the same price which was already a steal. Buying a new mattress is easily the smartest purchase we've ever made. I have chronic back pain and my chiropractor recommended a new bed, and told me to go here. BEST. DECISION. EVER! I feel a bit ridiculous that it took me so long to buy a quality mattress. If you have back pain, do yourself a favor and invest in your own health and well-being. We've NEVER slept so well. No more rolling around in bed, changing positions, waking up 10 times a night because I am sore. I fall asleep in 1 position and usually wake up in the same position now. Changed my world. Needed a couple of mattresses and looked for a local business on Yelp. Matthews mattress had good reviews so decided to stop by and check it out. The salesman really knew his stuff. We asked many questions and he guided us to a few options. After spending the next 30 minutes laying down on a few to get the sense of sleeping, we ended up choosing two. Given some extenuating circumstances we could not have them delivered right away (in fact, a couple of months) but they were great about holding it with only a deposit. We had them delivered last week so I'm excited to bed down and try it out next week after they air out a bit (tip: need to jump on the posterpedic and let it air out). Exceptional service. Last year, while moving into my new place, I discovered the box spring and base had seen better days and swung into Matthews. I explained my predicament and was told that normally those items would come from their warehouse which was closed during the weekend. However, I was offered a box spring of my choice from any one of the floor displays and was further delighted to have it heavily discounted as well. They were awesome! I had to get a new, lower mattress and foundation while my husband was in the hospital with a broken back two years ago. It was either that or rent a hospital bed. This was by far the better option. Next day delivery by two super nice and helpful guys. The Matthews Mattress Collection was way better than the big brands, it's been two years and it's still perfect. My salesman Chris G was great and helpful but not pushy and the delivery guys were extra fantastic. It was kind of a funny story but our old bed was fine and didn't need replacing but it was too tall and my husband was in a back brace and couldn't "hop" onto it. A friend from 3 blocks away stopped by during the delivery and asked if he could have it. The delivery guys offered to drop it at his house on their way out, he gave them a good tip and the store saved the recycle fee. Everybody was happy, and I'm a customer for life. read more

Negative experience here. I was hopeful from all the great reviews, as well as a local recommendation. When I first came in, I was treated as though my transaction was not valued when it was clear I was not buying a large mattress with many features. Though I asked for a specific person, I was given over to someone else who was very uninterested, inexperienced and with no good advice. I should have left then but I was needing to quickly accommodate my elderly mother who was in pain. The first mattress purchase was a failure and they were not happy to take it as a return. My calls were not returned promptly, I was told to call a certain number during restrictive hours, and various other delaying tactics. Finally, after they took it back they determined it was not faulty, though we could see it had collapsed. An employee told me that he "wished they'd stop carrying this mattress" because it had so many problems and complaints. Yet they had no trouble selling it to me. They finally gave me a partial credit to use toward another more expensive purchase which was also became a disappointing product. When I came in to talk, they ignored me and were very disrespectful. In the end I spent over $6000. And their lack of professionalism and kindness guarantees I will never come back. I had such high expectations. Probably ranks as my worst and most expensive customer service disaster experience ever. In the end we tossed out that second mattress too - total junk. Got a replacement from Mattress Firm with excellent advice on the right choice from a knowledgeable salesperson, who cared about more than the sale, and it was the perfect solution, plus I was treated as a valued customer. This is the second time I have purchased a mattress at Matthews Mattress. We found a mattress we (thought) we loved, and it was delivered very timely to our house and set up with no problems. After several nights of sleeping on it both my husband and I thought there was something wrong with the mattress. We looked at the tags and we believed the wrong mattress had been delivered. I called and spoke to Dustin and he said he would need to contact their vendor to verify the model but they could do a one time exchange for the original agreed upon fee. I didn't feel we should have to pay the fee as we believed we had been given the wrong mattress. I ended up contacting the manufacturer and we had, indeed, been given a different mattress than what we wanted. I called Dustin and he requested that we come in to the showroom again and try some different mattresses to make sure we got what we truly needed. We went in with low expectations just wanting to get the switch made. After talking with Dustin it was pretty obvious that there were some miscommunications when ordering our mattress. As it turns out, he highly recommended we try a couple different mattresses and we ended up loving a completely different one! We received our new mattress very quickly at no additional charge and have been sleeping great ever since. Also, Dustin was very patient with me, even when I wasn't so patient with him. I walked in to find one couple working with a sales attendant. I stood near the front of the store, roughly 20 feet away from the attendant, waiting for a hello or welcome - none of that came. I cruised around the store to check out the beds, hoping for another attendant to pop up and assist with a handful of questions I had. While checking out the beds, I noticed that none of the prices or inventory reflected their various forms of marketing (online, print ad in mail). In fact the prices were far higher than advertised (surprise). After about 15 minutes of walking in circles, I finally received a very brash "I'll be with you in a bit" from the attendant. He then went back to sitting on one of the beds and discussing his personal life with the couple in the store. This was laughable, so I split. I'll be spending my $3k-$5k some where in the city or online for a quality bed - not at this place. read more

I would give 20 stars if I could. Went here after spending a lot of time at Sleep Train - they were very helpful and informative, but after explaining to them we had to purchase many things since we just moved they would not provide an exact price for the mattress. We went to Matthews and Jim was very helpful and had us try a few beds. We ended up with something completely different and we love it. The reason for the 20 stars is due to their flexibility. We realized we needed a king bed (after getting a queen) so they delivered that to us right away. But they also worked with us on some last minute financing that we needed. It was probably a pain for them, but it helped us out tremendously and alleviated a lot of our current stress. So, thank you to Jim and Dustin and everyone that helped.
