I was referred to Dr. Tarakji by my general dentist for wisdom teeth extraction. Experience: Dr. Tarakji was very welcoming, friendly, and easy to talk to. He explained the entire process and made me feel at ease about the procedure. He was not pushy at all and allowed me to make my own decisions (decided to take all 4 of my wisdom teeth out and decided on nitrous oxide/ laughing gas vs general anesthesia). He made sure I was doing well during the entire procedure, asking if I could feel any pain and if I was doing okay. After the procedure was over and the laughing gas wore off, he checked in and discussed follow up care with me. Follow-up: he called me the night of my procedure to see how I was doing! I didn't pay for either of my follow up visits and both were quick and easy. He was very good at answering all the questions I had, and I never felt hesitant to ask the many questions that I did. Office: the office staff are nice too and the location is easy to find. It's located in the tall medical building on Hawthorne and 190th. Plenty of parking. My daughter had a growth that appeared an rapidly grew in the place of a missing tooth. My Dentist Dr Lontoc in Torrance referred me to Dr Tarakji. We got there spending a few minutes to fill out paperwork and wanted less then 10 minutes to be called back. Once in the chair he looked at the growth in her mouth. He said he could get that out no problem. Caveat to this was only our dental insurance can pay for the surgery but not the lab to test the removed growth. Kaiser won't provide a lab for using an out of network provider. The Doctor explained that the lab could charge a couple hundred or near a thousand depending on what test are ran. Bottom line this Doctor told me that I could go through my own health insurance and have them pay for it. The Dr. explained to me it could all be coded as medical, so to avoid using the dental insurance and this is what we did. He saved us a lot of money, directing me to a provider outside his office. Dr. Tarakji pulled 2 tricky wisdom teeth for my daughter. We waited too long to get them pulled which adds to complication. Our dentist had recommended pulling all 4 wisdom teeth and Dr. Tarakji provided a conservative recommendation to only pull 2 given potential complications and the likelyhood that at this point there would probably be no further shifting. He provided a very detailed explanation of the potential issues and recovery expectations. All has gone very well and during the recovery period he was VERY responsive to phone calls regarding pain management. I'm very impressed and whole heartedly recommend Dr. Tarakji. read more

My experience at this oral survey office is the WORST I could have ever imagined it be. I was referred to this surgeon by my dentist in March. I made my appointment for wisdom teeth removal under GENERAL ANESTHETIC for April 30. When I called about a week before my appointment to confirm, the receptionist said, "Okay, you are all set for April 30 for LOCAL ANESTHETIC". Um, what? Mind you, I reminded them over and over again when making the appointment that I was not going to have TEETH EXTRACTED under nitrous gas. If Dr. Tarakji told me that the "general anesthetic would not completely put me to sleep", then I was certainly not going to have my teeth pulled under nitrous gas. The receptionist told me that I wouldn't be able to have the operation done that day if I wanted to be put under. So I changed my appointment date to May 15 at 9 am. May 15 rolls around, my two friends drive me to my appointment at 8:15 so I could ask them a few questions for after care and whatnot. When we arrive, the door is locked so we sit outside for about 20 minutes. Finally the surgeon lets us in and greets me. We sit in the waiting room... and wait... and wait... and wait. NINE FIFTEEN, FIFTEEN MINUTES AFTER MY APPOINTMENT, a nurse takes me to a room to take my blood pressure. She sits me down in the chair and leaves, so I wait in the cold, dreary room by myself trying not to panic. Finally, Dr. Tarakji comes in the room and starts talking to me: "Hello Peyton, so... this hasn't happened to me in fifteen years but... well, I am sorry to say that in order for the general anesthetic to be done there needs to be two of my assistants with me during the operation. One of my assistants is stuck on vacation and the other assistant has called in sick. I can do local anesthetic though." I DON'T WANT LOCAL, I WANT GENERAL. I was livid. I have been dealing with this office's complete disregard for me for about a month. Thank goodness my friend referred me to her oral surgeon who took me in not a week later. He was already a thousand times more assuring than Dr. Tarakji. I would only refer this oral surgeon to my worst enemy. PS.... my cousin told me I had dodged a bullet when I didn't have my operation with Tarakji. Apparently she went to him too since we share the same dentist and he had dislocated her jaw; she couldn't eat for two weeks because of the pain. I cracked a tooth and it was so bad I could not get a crown. I needed an implant. My regular dentist recommended Dr. Tarakji's office for the surgical procedures. Dr. Tarakji saw me right away. He and the staff were super friendly, helpful, and competent. Dr. Tarakji explained the implant process thoroughly and answered my many questions. He pulled the tooth (no pain) and began the process for the implant. The follow up appointments and remaining procedures were done efficiently and Dr. Tarakji and his staff were always great. Pros: +Clean office +Great staff +Fast and efficient service Con: -Inefficient paper system (forgiveable) -High cost (unavoidable) I made the appointment to get my wisdom teeth removed about a week ago and I got back from surgery a couple hours ago. I could not have been happier with the result! If I could redo the procedure, I would recommend just getting local anesthesia. I chose the laughing gas since I was a bit anxious about the surgery and I wanted to see what it was like. Not sure if that was worth it since I barely felt anything from the laughing gas. Save some money (around $125 for laughing gas I think) and just order local anesthesia. I sat in the hot seat with the scented (vanilla) gas mask over my nose for 15 minutes before Tarakji administered novacaine. They apply topical analgesic before giving you the shot which tasted kinda like bananas. The shot felt like a tiny pinch and the numbing effect was definitely interesting! I put my earbuds in and played some music while Tarakji waited for the novacaine to take effect. After about 5 minutes it was show time! Had to get 3 wisdom teeth removed: both bottoms and my top left. He started with the bottoms which he needed to break into pieces. There is absolutely no pain! You will definitely feel pressure similar to what you would feel at the dentist while getting you teeth cleaned with a dental pick. There was just a little soreness from the pressure he was putting on my jaw but that's unavoidable. The sounds of the saw cutting away at my bone combined with the constant sucking apparatus were drowned out by the EDM music I was playing to complement the NO2 I was breathing in. The bottom right took about 20-30 minutes to fully remove since he had to break it into pieces and the same goes for my bottom left. My top left tooth was removed in about a minute or two. Every mouth is different so not all experiences will be reflective of mine! After removal, stitching up my gaping holes was quick and painless. I maybe felt the needle go in once or twice but again it just felt like pressure. Once stitching was complete, they rolled up some gauze and placed them carefully in my mouth. My mom paid for the procedure and was free to go! I had the procedure done at 9:00 am and it is now 5:15 pm. I've been changing my gauze every 30 minutes and drinking some ensure (vanilla tastes the best in my opinion) between gauze changing. I'm still bleeding but it's slowing down. Also got an antibiotic (clindamycin since I'm allergic to amoxicillin) and Vicodin for the pain. So far, I'm just sore but I took the Vicodin since it seems like it got worse as I kept waiting. WiFi password is his name (tarakji) for the guest WiFi source. I would highly recommend Tarakji's services to any friend of mine that needs wisdom teeth removed! Dr. Tarakji himself is very friendly and likable. However, I don't think he is the best option in the area for patients with anxiety. My daughter has extreme anxiety and we weren't able to complete the procedure to remove her wisdom teeth and had to leave prematurely. This in part is due to my daughter's extreme fear and anxiety but I feel like if handled differently could have ended with better results. Front desk staff aren't the friendliest and almost approach patients with a condescending attitude. Perhaps this practice is good for older people but I would not recommend this place for teens or young children who have anxiety or fear of dentists. read more

My daughter was referred to Dr. Tarakji from her dentist for wisdom teeth removal. 20min past our appointment, she was seated. Another 15min and Dr. Tarakji comes in to introduce himself and excuses he needs to take care of something. 7min later he comes back in and says my daughter needs to get an x ray because the one from the dentist is not efficient. Ok, x rays done and waited 16min before Dr. comes back in. He said he has a " good news " and says he'll be back shortly and leaves the room. 12min later he comes back and explains my daughter has no wisdom teeth. What is bothering her is a gum growths and is not wisdom teeth. He says he'll cut the gum that overlaps the molar and she'll be good. I told him that what he sees as second molars are her wisdom teeth, she got 4 of her molars taken before she started with orthodontist treatment because she didn't have enough room for all her teeth. Dr. Tarakji looked at me and laughed and said " Listen. She has NO wisdom teeth. I think you're just telling stories about her getting her molars out in the past . No way. " I'm her mother and knows what has been done to my daughter. Really??!! Her dentist wouldn't refer her to Dr. Tarakji for wisdom teeth extraction if she didn't have any. Then, he gets a phone call and disappeared again. When he came back, I tried to explain to him again but he wouldn't listen. He looked down at me and just made fun of me and lastly he said " I've been doing it for a long time and I know your daughter has no wisdom teeth ". That was it. Once back at home, I made an appointment with an another Dr. and he saw it right away, looking at the x rays and in her mouth that she's missing her second molars and her wisdom teeth came in to the place where the molars were. The " extra gum that juts needs to be snipped off " as Dr. Tarakji said , is the impact of the wisdom teeth!! His in and out of the room was very disturbing, the waiting time was ridiculous, the office had huge piles of paperwork, the whole equipment looked old and outdated. My first impression was correct. He ensured the anesthesia was properly administered for the time-line of the procedure (about 1.5 hours). I didn't feel a thing. Dr. Tarakji periodically checked with me to make sure there was no pain. He also instantly advised me of each step being taken and what to expect. Again, Dr. Tarakji's stitching work post extraction was remarkable. Dr. Tarakji and his team worked very well together throughout the entire surgery. Once the extraction was completed, aftercare instructions were provided in writing (very helpful) with supplies (gauze & syringe to rinse sockets) as well as prescriptions for antibiotics and pain relief medication to ensure a clean comfortable recovery. Dr. Tarakji let me know he would telephone me the following day to see how I was doing and to address any questions or concerns I may have. True to his word, very close to 24hours later I was speaking with Dr. Tarakji. He answered all my questions about the best diet for the swiftest recovery. It is mostly genetic and lifestyle, however and I am blessed with the best Doctors like Dr. Pejman Cohan, Beverly Hills CA endocrinologist US best Doctors by US World Report Magazine for the last 15+ years, Dr. Jon Tobis, Cardiologist UCLA best doctor, Dr. Law, UCLA Super Eye Doctors, Dr. Dean Chiang, my Allergist, etc. ... I am writing this blog because Dr. Tarakji indeed is the best Dental Maxillofacial specialist that I was blessed to stumble upon. After he reviewed my medical history, he took all efforts to call my concerned doctors, explained and discuss his findings with me and execute the best treatment for my teeth and whole being. I went under his care with the least discomfort, with techniques he learned and developed I have never felt before, i.e. with minimum impact or smooth extraction compared with all of my previous dentist. My last extraction from another Dentist before, took a long time and I thought my head is going to explode. Doctor Tarakji continued on monitoring my blood pressure, I even relaxed during the process because of his competence and the trust he earned while extracting my tooth. The previous graft Dr. Taraji performed on me in the past was so successful that even though I did proceed with the implant with another Dentist, all I heard from that dentist is accolade for the good work, for the healthy and infection free graft Dr. Tarakji performed. DIRTY OFFICE, equipment is OLD! The lobby looks nice but once you get inside, beware! The are Understaffed....during a tooth extraction the assistant had to leave to answer the phone and Dr. Tarakji would take calls, causing them to stop several times. After several post-extraction complications such as infection, on-going swelling and numb tongue, and as an after thought (I was half way to the elevator), Dr. Tarakji took an x-ray using a pair of clamping scissors to hold the film, which I had to bit down on. Added to these these awful experiences, several bone fragments were not removed, which ended up protruding out into my gum. I went to see another specialist, who removed the bone fragments, which required cutting into my gum. He explained sometimes 1-2 fragments can be left behind, but not FOUR! read more

I left his office with some bleeding, but it subsided within a few hours. When I felt some pain a week later, he immediately made time for me in his schedule and quickly determined that the pain was caused by the stitches he had inserted, so he removed them--pain gone.
