Matthew photographed two huge events for our family and he did a truly spectacular job. He came early and got every moment of our events. He is an artist. I love the way he got pictures of everyone being normal and he managed to get our little quirky moments that became our favorite pictures. He is so polite and gracious. Most of the time we didn't even realize he was capturing us being ourselves. When I look at the pictures, I start crying because they are such momentous events that I couldn't really focus at the time. I recently hired Matthew James Photographers to shoot my holiday card photos with my husband and my 2 dogs. It was the first time we had done professional photos since our wedding 3 years ago, so we were admittedly rusty. Plus add 2 dogs in the mix! But Matthew was extremely professional, made us feel comfortable, and got some amazing pictures that I know we will cherish. I particularly love his laid-back style and candid shots. He was very affordable, and the pictures came in lovely personalized packaging. The turnaround time was about a month (it was their busy season), and initially we were sent different pictures than the ones we selected, but Matt was prompt in sending the right ones the next day. When I first contacted Matt requesting details on his engagement+wedding package, he was quick to respond, easy to communicate with, and very detailed and helpful in his responses. After contacting a variety of photographers in the Bay Area, we decided to go with Matt because of his very affordable and reasonable package pricing. If anything, you're getting a GREAT DEAL for Matt's caliber! Matt recommended a few places for our engagement shoot and was very patient with our indecisiveness in where to shoot. In the end, he was very flexible and was willing to drive super far to shoot where we wanted to have it done! He even went the extra mile and scouted out the area prior to our appointed time to meet. As soon as my husband and I got engaged, I booked Matt to do our engagement and wedding photos. He's done a bunch of mutual friends weddings and I was always blown away with how good the photos came out. Photo sessions can be super awkward, especially when you have to kiss, and stare into each other's eyes, while a man with a camera is capturing your every move. I was slightly disappointed with the photos we received from Matthew James Photographer. We asked for many candid photos to be taken of the reception, and he delivered on this very well, his photos of our young family members are adorable. Day of I felt like he didn't listen to or get a feel for us very well, we were obviously and verbally uncomfortable with some of the poses he asked us to do, and ended up with only 2 photos where we are even looking at the camera. His partner Dannie is really nice. There are very few 'standard' wedding photos of family members and the bridal party, which initially was fine with me, but the ones that we have are not very impressive, and frankly the standard photos are the ones you hang on to anyway! Post wedding I notified him of our new address to send the photo disc to, he sent it to the wrong one anyway, with the same misspelling of our name that occurred on the proofs- of which I had informed him of. read more
