I flew in for procedures that only my dentist could perform in one day and found out my dentist was no longer there when I arrived for my appointment...it had been scheduled for 8 months and the provider gone for a few...didnt get a notification or heads up although my email and address were up to date. I found out they notified other patients, just not me...great customer service, especially since I held off on this work for such a long time and even took a day off of work to fly in early specifically for this. After my experience with this staff face to face, I pin it down to incompetence or laziness. To add to that (and the purpose for this review) I received a bill for my visit FOUR MONTHS LATER....when I did my own investigation (because I truly don't trust this office staff) I saw that the insurance paid their portion of the balance in the early first week of August...the bill I received was dated 11/11...again, incompetence or laziness? I haven't lived in Kansas for many years, but always maintained my relationship with this office because of the OUTSTANDING customer service and communication. The old expectations of awesome service are gone, replaced by new, much lower standards. I would absolutely avoid if at all possible.

It's a pretty busy practice, but they know my name when I come in, and I don't go that frequently (usually twice a year for cleanings and exams). I went to Dr. Willingham this afternoon for the first visit to get a crown put on an old molar that had a huge filling. The tooth finally broke (after 40 years of being filled) and a crown is necessary. Dr. Willingham seems to be very careful and thorough doing this kind of work. He's done other crowns for me, and they've all been fine and given no problems after they were put on. I tend to be a bit resistant to dental anesthesia -- it takes a while for me to become really numb, and it often takes some extra doses to do the trick. Dr. Willingham has been very patient about that, and has been very attentive to whether or not I was feeling any sensation while he's drilling away! I've also been pleased with the dental cleanings I've had here -- the hygienists are pleasant and seem to be very thorough. I tend to get gingivitis easily, but since being on a regular schedule for cleanings every six month my gums are in much better shape. My only quibble has been over billing -- at times I've gotten bills for services that should have been covered by my dental insurance. (It's compounded by the fact that I've got confusing primary and secondary dental insurance.) However, it's always been easy to straighten out any problems, and their staff is good about working with the insurance companies to get my coverage to stretch as far as it can! If you need a good dentist out in JoCo, I can recommend Dr. Willingham and Oak Park Dental.

Following a very traumatic experience with my former dentist, I'm embarrassed to admit that, up…read moreuntil December, it had been at least 5 years since I'd been to the dentist. I take care of my teeth (ok, ok, I don't floss), but I haven't been maintaining them because I was afraid to go back to the dentist -- any dentist. Add to that the fact that I apparently am incapable of picking up a phone and calling to make an appointment, and things were getting rough. Turns out not ONLY is Dr. Carol Akers and the team members at her practice, In Harmony Dental Care, able and willing to communicate via text message, email or phone (whatever works for you), they're also all kind, responsive, courteous, bi-lingual, and just generally pretty amazing. My first visit in December was for a cleaning and check-up. First impressions: clean, comfortable office; state-of-the-art equipment; friendly staff; good, calming music playing; and they paid attention. Before m hygienist brought Dr. Akers in, I had told her that I had a bad experience previously. When Dr. Akers came into the room, she asked about it, validated my concerns, and talked about how we could communicate and work with one another to make sure I always felt safe. Following the exam, it was evident that the 5 years away from regular check-ups had taken their toll (the pain in my mouth had kinda hinted at that). Dr. Akers explained everything I needed to have done and ballparked me an overall cost, but scheduled a brief consult follow-up so that she could work up a full plan to review with me. A week later we met in the office and she reviewed my entire prioritized care plan (can't wait, can wait, let's keep an eye on this) and the estimated price and then we compared that against my dental insurance and my financial situation and adjusted so that we could be sure that I maximized my annual dental plan and minimized my out of pocket cost. We've started working on the plan and every visit has been almost completely pain free and, believe it or not, relaxing. She hums when she works and I always giggle a little and she apologizes. With my mouth full of stuff, I try to assure her that my giggles are in appreciation of the calming that her sweet hums provide. When she can't find another tune to catch her fancy, she turns to Christmas carols. And I love it. I had a lot of visits between December and February, but now I'm done with my work for a bit. Not gonna lie, when I was leaving after my last visit, I felt a little sad and knew that I was going to miss Dr. Akers and her team until I get to come back in for my next cleaning. They take every precaution to ensure the office is safe during the pandemic, including wearing ALL the PPE and having the office thoroughly disinfected every night. If you have dental anxiety, want to be treated with consideration and compassion, and want your mouth to feel healthy again, please go see Dr. Akers and her team. You'll be glad you did.

His work is great, and as close to pain-free as you'll find, and that's really saying a lot because this guy gave me a root canal and I barely felt a thing. I've had a lot of work done by Dr. Roedemeier (root canal, 2 crowns, multiple fillings, cosmetic bonding) and I've been really happy with all of it. He also referred me to 2 fantastic oral surgeons. One who removed my wisdom teeth, and the other who did tissue grafting surgery on my gums. Both surgeons were awesome, and I was grateful that he knew of such good doctors to send me to.
