Matsu sushi suits the ones strolling around Kungsholmen that want decent sushi. The chefs at Matsu are very friendly and they carefully serve beautifully presented plates according to your preferences. The fish pieces are cut bigger than average in Stockholm - which I personally am not a big fan of - but the flavors are definitely there. If you're not a sushi enthusiast you can order dishes such as bibimbap and yakisoba among other things. The place is rather small with only a few tables. However, there shouldn't be any problem to get a spot. Besides, they have plenty of space outside on during summer.

    11 pieces meal

Very good sushi place! I was a bit worried when I arrived. After reading the excellent reviews, we were surprised to see that the neighboring restaurants were quite full, while this one was empty. We got inside, and the guy behind the counter was very friendly. After we managed to decipher what he was saying ;) , we both ordered the 11 piece meal (7 nigiri, 4 rolls). We wanted to sit outside, and they ran out to wipe off the tables and seats since it had been raining earlier. I expecially liked that they actually spoke Japanese to each other. Very authentic. :) The miso soup was thick and very tasty, and the food came fast. The presentation was excellent, and the food was just... great! I can't say anthing else that it was just super good, and I hope to come back here soon!

    8-piece sushi lunch

I'm a little thrown off by our first experience at Matsu. Per previous Yelp reviews, we had high expectations. I ordered the ten piece vegetarian sushi lunch, and my husband ordered the eight piece sushi lunch, and asked for no shrimp or shellfish because of a shellfish allergy. That was noted and handed over to the sushi bar. The service while ordering wasn't that great. We started with some miso soup while we waited, and I didn't find it to be anything special. We had been to ESA sushi the week before, and found their miso to be much better. The sushi came quickly, and the portions were huge. Especially with the vegetarian sushi, too huge to be able to take it in one bite. Every piece ended up falling apart and making a mess. The avocado sushi had giant pieces of unripe avocado that was bitter and kind of impossible to eat. The veggie rolls were messily rolled and fell apart, but tasted fine. The inari tofu was pretty good. After my husband had already eaten one of his three pieces of rolls, we discovered that there was, in fact, crab meat in his roll. Most places take shellfish allergies pretty seriously, so we were both just confused and shocked by the lack of attention. We had never experienced this before. It's hard to say if they use imitation crab or real crab for their lunch rolls, as he experienced some allergy symptoms with that small bite, but it could have been much worse. All in all, we left full, no one ended up dying of anaphylactic shock, and the prices were good for the portions. Pretty big let down considering the hype, but I may give it another try some day.

Extra Stor Sushi -- 169kr!!! SOOO GOOOOOD OMG

BEST SUSHI I'VE HAD!!! Fish quality is incredible, great plating and really affordable prices for the quality. The owner is so nice and generous as well, I often get more than what I paid for. This is another level of art and sushi. Been here around 20 times and never left unsatisfied -- 5 stars.

With the big portion & really fair prices in mind, I still can't give them a better rating because of their very low quality ingredients, lack of hygiene & bad service! We sat outside & the smell of urine was making me puke.. even though some drunk ppl has probably taken a piss the night before I think they should have made sure that it's clean around their restaurant in the morning. On top of that tables weren't wiped & toilet was disgusting. Quality of food was below average but portions are big & prices are very compatible!

I love this place, the food is delicious and prices are really competitive. You always have soup and hot tea while waiting for the order, and that takes about five minutes. It's nice that you always have space to eat there, people usually order take away .

Spicy tuna roll and tempura roll!
    Taylor H.

The food was pretty tasty and expensive too. Paid $35 for two rolls and a coke I got the spicy tuna roll which was actually spicy, woooo points for that! I also got the tempura roll which was delicious as well. The service was pretty terrible, but the food was good so whatcha gonna do, right? The spicy tuna is definietly worth a visit, I highly recommend it.

We ordered take-away (tempura roll and rainbow roll)

I did really like how quick the meal was - all over and done with in essentially 90 minutes. Also appreciated the no-fuss casual setting, and the chefs all had humor. Now getting to the food - the courses were very small and most were just okay. We left not full which to me is an issue for a Michelin rated restaurant. The skill sets were also not entirely there for a supposed top notch sushi restaurant. Several of our sushi pieces had rice falling apart from the mold, which is a huge no no. If you are very versed in sushi would not recommend this. However, if you are new to a mikae, this could be a good experience.

Coming from NYC, I have access to superb sushi, so when when my friends wanted to come here I have to admit I was not overly eager using a meal in Sweden that I thought I could get back home. However, I am totally glad I came! The omakase was excellent. Appreciated that Chef Ishizaki is still the main person behind the bar and assembling most of the nigiri and dishes. There are plates/dishes mixed in, so not just sushi pieces. The cured egg yolk was fabulous. Wonderful sake list, and you can opt for a pairing if you like. At the end you can add on extras (notably otoro, which is not part of the regular omakase) - it was great, as they prepared it three different ways. A very decadent way to end the meal. Majority of seats are at the bar, but they have one elevated table along the window with a view of the restaurant (kind of like stadium seating). We actually sat here, and loved it. There's more room, next to the window, but still relatively close to the sushi counter. We had a dedicated server who was absolutely fabulous. Reservations are needed.

Well... This is the first review after a long, long pause in this department!…read more We've heard so much about this place for a long time, from our friends and some websites online. One special thing, and the very specific thing that our friends have been boasting about is the sushi boat. Yes, you read right. While having sushi delivered on bands is pretty popular and is considered normal, here in Stockholm you don't find many places like that. So imagine how excited I was when I came there and saw the table that looked like a boat, surrounded by individual chairs and inside the boat was a "river" where sushi-filled boats float around. So there we were, we had bought a coupon online to get 30 pieces of sushi for approximately half the price we would've paid otherwise. When we came in, no one was there, but that's because we came at a really odd time, 5 pm. As other people start leaving work for dinner, we sit there enjoying the boats to ourselves. The sushi chef made everything fresh for us. We got the normal maki sushi, the salmon nigiri, shrimp and tuna. After a couple of the extraordinary, ordinary sushi bites, she asked whether we'd like to try anything so we told her to give us her best shot. Out flowing were bites of sushi with octopus, followed by scallop and the Californian roll. Everything looked so delicate and put together. I ordered the green tea together with the sushi and it was wonderful. It was served in a heavy tea pot and I kept pouring the tea into my cup during the course of the meal but by the end of it I still had some left that I couldn't possibly finish. In the end, my fiancé and I left the restaurant very full, almost rolling as we cruised down the street, and very happy for the service and for all the excellent food. I'd come back here even though I didn't have a a coupon for the sushi.

For one, my wife just can't get enough of the mango salmon sushi. It may sound a little odd, but it's amazing. You can get either rolls or sashimi-style. It's not a true sashimi, as the salmon is slightly grilled, but that doesn't stop it from being delicious. They are also one of the very few Asian restaurants to do a respectable ramen. The flavors aren't exactly spot on (for any ramen aficionados), but it's still very delicious and wonderfully hardy. Perfect for winter! And last, but not least, we were quite surprised at the flavors of some of their side dishes like the salads and dumpling. Pleasantly surprised by the chicken dumplings, which had a healthy amount a ginger (a personal favorite). Again, not necessarily amazingly authentic, but seriously tasty. We really hope to see this restaurant stick around - we will be back often!
