Higher Standards created an environment that allowed my daughter to learn effectively and actually show improvement (sounds like a pretty standard thing - but, there's the "other" place that didn't deliver). Convenience is also a factor they excell in - once, after my daughter left her books after a session, they showed up (after hours) to make sure I could get the books before school the next day. However, when I arrived in class, Devon made learning about mundane grammar and mathematics into an entertaining experience through jokes and puns. I ended up enjoying the SAT class and got an almost 300 point increase on my score. This would not have been possible without the help of Devon and everyone else at Higher Standards.

Randy Klein of the Scotts Valley Tutoring Club had a huge impact on my son's life. As a high school…read moresophomore, my son was having trouble staying organized. For instance, he would sometimes complete his homework then forget to turn it in. Randy helped him get organized and work through some complicated problems in math and science, along with helping him cope with the general stress of high school. His GPA rose from 3.0 to 3.6 mainly because of Randy's help. My son is now a junior at Cal State Northridge and has been on the dean's list there three out of four semesters. He said, "The Tutoring Club's staff is great at making you feel at home. They work really hard to have a real relationship with everyone who goes there." We were referred to Liferaft from a friend when my son came to me asking for help in finding a resource to tutor him through statistics. We had tried different independent tutors before and other organizations to no avail. We couldn't find a tutor that my son connected with or felt he could learn from. I contacted Liferaft immediately and heard back from its founder, Michael, right away. He assessed the situation and what resources my son needed. I was also coming to him very late in the game, less than five weeks away from finals. Michael matched us with an exceptional tutor on his team, a working teacher with a masters in education, within hours and we scheduled our first session. It was a match. Not only did Jen immediately start creating study guides for my son, but she reached out to his teacher, stayed on top of his progress and grades and stayed in contact with my son's teacher to find out the plan for the remainder of the semester. Jen kept me updated along with Michael and she checked in regularly. This group has incredible communication skills and are instantly responsive and reassuring to student and parent alike. My son was being taught without a text book or a structure for an outside resource to really be able to leverage. So, Liferaft ordered materials and the AP stats book to teach from. I quite honestly have never seen this type of effort from a tutor or tutoring firm before. They worked with him at their Scotts Valley location and several hours offsite in preparation for the final and the final projects and study guides. My son was able to hold his good grade with Jen and Michael's help and he actually learned a great deal from them. And, they helped me avoid a heart attack. Not this time around. It was a rainy day on Saturday and they offered only ONE class at 7am. It was a nice art print making class. Friday night there was a sound bath as well. We were bored out of our minds. Staff is nice, they are very accommodating and it's a beautiful nature filled environment to be in but I was disappointed in their lack of classes. I'm not the one who planned it out so maybe they have certain packages. I basically went there to eat. I could have done that in my home town at nicer restaurants for the price they charged. It's not meant for families, it's more for corporate businesses. The food was a bit too fancy as well for our 13 year old and me as well at times. For breakfast I just want a simple omelette and toast. It has gotten a bit too fancy with the food. So please be aware if you have kids. It's more adult oriented and on weekends they don't provide many classes. It was disappointing to say the least. Waste of money. Would rather have used it on a better vacation experience. Oh well..you live and learn.

She is thoughtful and creative with learning. My grandson recently was having difficulty with testing. His teacher was at a loss, because she told me he knew the answers, but testing he was failing. My tutor did not hesitate, she came with me to conference with the teacher and Vice Principal of the school. They told me having her there was insightful. They now know what will work with him. He is now testing at A-B grade level. This has been great for us, and my tutor is a well-qualified teacher, she would be an asset to any school, but I am glad she likes tutoring. I am going to continue through the summer months to keep him competent and self confident. His self confidence I owe to Club Z.
