If you're looking for a tutor in the Rio Del Mar/Aptos area, then definitely check this place out…read more My little brother has been coming here for 2-3 years for help with different subjects, and has made a TON of progress all over his report cards. Not only did Kona and the tutors help my brother out with homework, but they made a big difference in his confidence and how he approaches his school work. By that, I mean that he's no longer afraid to ask questions and make sure he's 100% clear on the material. He's learned a lot of great studying habits and skills that the public school system failed to teach him. My family is SO grateful for Kona and her amazing team of tutors. They are always polite, knowledgeable, and they're more than willing to work with your busy after-school schedule!

We have had great success with this program. My daughter went from not knowing her multiplication…read morefacts in 5th grade to pre-algebra in 6 months! They completely master concepts before moving on to the next. Yes, it is an incentive based program (earning stars for prizes), but we figured out that what's my particular kid needed. I will say that at first, your kid will be upset at the assessment test. A kid behind in math might hate it because it makes them feel "dumb" and beg not to go back. As an adult, we know it is set up to be hard, to find out where you stand and where you need the help. Try to push through this if you can! There is light at the end of the tunnel. My kid went from hating and avoiding math for almost 3 years, to asking when she can go next. She is now so confident in math at school and proud of her knowledge, even helping others. I never thought that would happen. However, I believe you will need to go regularly and stay committed to your sessions to see the progress we did, which is up to you (you make your schedule - weekends included). Maybe you can't do other activities for a bit to get up to speed. That was a hard sacrifice for my kid, and the program isn't inexpensive. But the tutors are all math and engineering students from local schools, and Carol (owner) a strong partner in my kid's education, so I really believe it's money well-spent.

The student does all the work at the tutoring center. It does take at least twice a week commitment to see results. We are lucky to have this resource in our neighborhood. I highly recommend.
