The past two months, we've seen big change not only in his attitude towards learning, but his ability to sound out words and recognize them. He LOVES going to the learning center and actually looks forward to tutoring. Not to hurt the feelings of any of the teachers, but Mrs. Wilson is his absolute favorite - he always talks about how fun it is to learn with her. At his last assessment, he had improved more than we had anticipated, and we couldn't be more happy. Their professionalism and efficiency is genuinely impressive. We are so happy we made the decision to enroll Bentley into tutoring at Sylvan. We couldn't encourage others more to look into this establishment.

Well, lying seems to be a running theme here. I called before even doing a consult because we need…read morea place that follows masking guidelines. Had she said no, we're super loose about it, then cool, I would've appreciated the honesty and moved on. But instead, she spun a story about vaxxing, getting boosters, being so thorough about masking. Blah blah blah We do the consult, that goes well and we agree to start the following week, which was today. I walk in with my kid and she's meeting with a family and nobody has on masks, including her. The family leaves and I ask what about masks?! She says oh they are all fully vaxxed. Uhh I saw the kid, he's not even close to 12. Then she throw that family under the bus and says she's been really working on them to wear masks. I laugh and say but you're not wearing a mask. She claims she forgot. Ok. So no matter what side of the masking drana you're on... I have no respect for a liar. Especially one about to work with my kid. Drive a few miles up the road to Snohomish. Save your money, hire a tutor, this place is focused on self serving utilizing their own…read morecurriculum/testing to show high outcomes. Sylvan test scores mean nothing in mainstream academics, it was created to reflect that schools have poor testing outcomes and "SURPRISE" Sylvan's test scores are significantly higher so they can boast "wow, look how great your kiddo does when they come to Sylvan". I had a meeting prior to enrolling and made it crystal clear that the issue I was having was getting class work-that turns into-homework completed and that my kiddo often "miscommunicates" his missing assignments to me. I also told Sylvan my kiddo has some mental delays and the pressure of helping at home was causing a bit too much stress. Sylvan told me not to worry, that they'd check for missing assignments on-line and they ensured me that this was something they run across all the time and achieve great success. However, a little over 2 months in and I've had to talk to Sylvan twice about my kiddo not completing missing assignments (now 2-3 weeks behind on assignments that were accessible on-line at Sylvan). I found out that just before I had my last sit down meeting with Sylvan that 2 of their staff used my kiddos time to probe with questions before I arrived, I was not aware during my meeting that their staff had been questioning my kiddo. My kiddo later told me that the questioning cause anxiety that the question were so specific that they like they were in trouble and they were scared. During this meeting that I had scheduled with one staff person a second person entered the meeting unannounced and then turned everything back on my kiddo and they even lied about their statements they had made directly to me, it felt like an ambush. One of the staff people was someone who I had never met and who didn't even introduce herself before taking a tone about my kiddo. It was obvious that Sylvan had failed to meet basic standards so they prepared themselves for our last meeting by targeting the kiddo with the mental delays without the parent present in order to blame the child for his homework time at Sylvan not being utilized. My kiddo also said that those two Sylvan employees hangout and visit with each other for about the first hour and say "just ask us if you need any help" because there are no other student besides themselves during that time, my kiddo said they don't want to go and interrupt the two staff visiting so they don't really feel helped at all. I came to Sylvan for a reason and I specifically called out my areas of concern, they told me everything I wanted to hear in-order to get me to sign-up and yet they blame the child when they fail to follow through. I am applauded on several levels, Sylvan not being accountable for their lack of consistency, Sylvan questioning my kiddo and causing them to feel unsafe, Sylvan's unprofessional conduct and their self serving testing/curriculum.

We came to Sylvan with a very specific request to assess skill gaps in Math that we had observed at…read morehome. My son's school only does grade-level adaptive assessments that cover a broad set of skills and so we wanted to get an outside assessment that could be more targeted to the problems we had observed. Sylvan's diagnostic was a little expensive - about $150 - but that's OK to get what we are looking for. They did not complete the assessment as we'd asked. They performed a similar style of adaptive assessment as the school district does, so we got no value from that. I already have access to nearly identical diagnostics from the School district. They also did an English language skills assessment which we had no interest in. We only came here for math. Performing this test did not add value, it just wasted our time. Finally, the process took a week. By comparison, Mathnasium turned it around same day at no cost, and did an excellent job of listening to our needs and targeting the testing to what we were looking for. Overall I feel like I've spent a lot of money for something I didn't ask for, that adds no value to me as a customer. I would have far preferred if Sylvan had let me know up front that they don't offer the services I was looking for. They seem like a wonderful resource for general improvements across the board - but that's not what I asked for.

I freaked out and called aroudn to search for tutor help but not able to find any that I feel firs our needs. Then my coworker told us about Sylvan that her son has been attending. I quickly got connected with Pat who was super sweet and explained to me about Sylvan. The comprehensive test showed that my dtr need helps for reading and writting which also reflected in her school rpt. And my dtr has been attending since July 2022 and her scored has been improve tremendously. She is getting mostly A in her classes. We are very happy with the guidances ans supports that we have been getting from Sylvan esp the progress meeting every 3 months we get is really helpful. Thank you to Pat and all the awsome tutors !!!
