I called this location as my son needed to prepare for a test. I explained to Sammy we were short on time but needed to prep for an entrance exam. Sammy was so helpful and kind he worked out several plans to accommodate my son's schedule as well as our budget. They truly went out of their way to help me as we were pressed for time. My son has tried other Math Tutoring Companies and he has said this one has helped him the most. Even though we were there a short period of time I would highly recommend this location and program. Prior to enrolling, I had a long conversation with Marissa. They test my son, listened to us and structured a program that is uniquely carved for him to advance his math skills. The staff is professional and great with communication. I can schedule meetings to review my sons work and binders and review his progress any day with them. We love this place! My daughter felt a little behind in math, so we decided to check out Mathnasium because it is so conveniently located on Newport & 17th St. I immediately was so impressed by how responsive Marissa and Lori were. They are so kind and knowledgeable. They made us feel right at home, and I knew that they would keep the kids safe and comfortable. My daughter has only been a member for about a month, but she has already felt so much more confident in math. Mathnasium turned my daughter's math world around. My daughter spent her early years in elementary school with one math setback after another: The discontinuation of one curriculum, a second grade teacher who didn't teach math at all, a third grade teacher who volunteered to pilot three different math curriculums to report which one was best, no finalized new curriculum until she reached 5th grade. By fourth grade we realized she had massive gaps in her math knowledge. We did Mathnasium diligently for two whole school years. Three days a week from September to June for all of 5th and all of 6th and my daughter finished 6th grade with A's in all 4 math categories. And this was pre-Covid, these weren't mercy grades. We started Mathnasium in August 2017. Both of my girls were avowed math haters. They tested at 4th grade level (they were going into seventh.) I had a long talk with Lori Kim, the center's owner, and signed the girls up for a one year commitment. While the assessment test left both girls in tears of frustration, I did finally get them to agree to "try it out" for a couple weeks. Since their first session, they are hooked! There is never one complaint about going, and they think it's fun. Best part? School just started. One of the girls had to complete a "Getting to Know Me" fact sheet for her language arts class. She asked me to proofread it. Imagine my surprise! Where it said, "Favorite Subject", she wrote "Math!" Yesterday, my granddaughter had a ton of math homework, so she took her school binder with her to Mathnasium. When I picked her up, I was very interested to hear how it went. (Another tutoring company we had considered has a policy of "no outside homework.") She said, "It was really hard, and Daniel had to spend the entire hour on my homework. We didn't even get to do any Mathnasium today." But when we got home, she sailed through the rest of her math homework, because Daniel had helped her in mastering the concept. My sons experience with Mathnasium has been excellent. He started at age 11 in 6th grade and tested at a 4th grade math level. Because of their proven methodologies, he has been able to get closer to his now 7th grade math level. At the beginning he was very timid and down on himself and Mathnasium has helped him become more confident in his math skills. I am a teacher and my son does well in math, but I believe he needs to practice math, especially in the summer. He attends Mathnasium South Coast Mesa and loves it. As we were leaving on a Friday one time, I said "See you Sunday" to Lori and my son said, "Why can't we come tomorrow?" Because they are closed. I was looking for extra support in math for my son. I really liked that Mathnasium is focused specifically in math. Although my son was already strong in math, the tutors really helped keep him on track towards the 4th grade level math. My son really enjoyed the learning environment at Mathnasium and didn't hesitate to keep going. He liked all the instructors, and would even play short chess matches at the end of the sessions.
