My daughter came in for an assessment. She is in 9th grade and has very bad anxiety. She called me crying that she was going to fast. I went in and the owner came and sat down and said, "I can't help her, she doesn't want to learn". If your child is nervous about math and struggling. Don't even try here. The director Lily is very difficult to deal with, our son was attending this location and was failing Math. When we attempted to discuss a game plan with Lily about helping my son succeed, she was very aggressive and started making excuses. She was more concerned with her feelings then ours. She does not care about the kids or parents. When I asked if my son could receive extra help with his homework instead of working on her plan, she messaged me and said my son is not fit for her program. I'd like to share our experience with Lily and her program. Approximately four years ago, we started taking our son to her for sessions. He was dedicated and never missed a session. However, when we received his school grades last year, we noticed that he was only failing math. We requested a meeting with Lily to discuss how we could improve his grades, but she was uncooperative and instead of offering a solution, she pointed fingers at others, including her staff and my son. It was clear that she only cared about the money and not the education of our child. Dealing with Lily was extremely challenging and she does not deserve to work with children. Despite our efforts, my son's math grades did not improve and when I tried to discuss it with Lily again, she responded by saying that the program wasn't suitable for him and she removed him from it instead of finding a solution to help him. read more

After researching the best math tutoring for my 7yo, I went to 4 Kumon orientations and even bored myself. I couldn't understand why everyone was so in love w Kumon; plus my child kept napping thru it. She was basically uninterested in Kumon and I had no desire to struggle w daily repetitive worksheets and no real explanations. So I thought outside the box, and went to Mathnasium. Lily is at the helm and seems strict, but when you peel her layers and you see her in action - she is beyond sweet, warm and lovely to the kids. She's that balance of stern and loving; she's invested in your kid. So step away for a breather and watch your child walk out in an hour more confident in their math skills. Yesterday my kid was in tears afterschool, because she was disappointed that she didn't do so well in her in-class math test review. Luckily, we had her Mathnasium tutor session that same afternoon and Lily sensed the tears and my apprehensive look - took control and talked to the individual instructor of how my lil girl could attack the problems. And it worked. My daughter wrote in her daily gratitude journal what she was thankful for yesterday...she listed her math instructor's help. My smile grew larger as my girl walked into class today saying to me "don't worry mommy - I got this". Whaaaat? That really did happen. We continue to be very grateful to Lily and the entire team at Burbank Mathnasium for their long-term guidance. Lily has been a fixture in our son's life since he was in elementary school; now he is a high school junior taking AP Calculus and preparing for the SAT and ACT. Thanks to the individualized, consistent, ongoing support and instruction he has continued to receive at Mathnasium over the years, he's maintained straight A's in all math classes, scored a "9" on the math achievement ISEE and the top math score on the PSAT. My 9 year old daughter was struggling in math this year. She's in 4th grade and although I enjoy teaching her, I can be pretty tough and aggressive. I didn't feel this was fair to her and didn't want to put any pressure on her, so I decided to try tutoring. She's been going since November and enjoys her sessions greatly. She doesn't care about your child's academic struggles. All Lily cares about is the money you are paying. 2 years ago I brought my struggling 4th grade son here. I am a teacher but I couldn't teach him! He was struggling in math (D) and I was desperate. After a few months, I noticed the change in his progress report(C). Since then his report cards in math have always been A or B, nothing lower. He is attempting to get into advanced math at his school. He really enjoys math now and says it's his favorite subject. Compare that to two years ago when he HATED math and felt dumb in class. Our daughter started here as an attempt to keep on track during the summer. After the summer and the improvement and happiness we saw in her face each time she was dropped off and picked up amazed us. Math was made fun and learning just came naturally. The staff is wonderful and the fact that so many kids that go to her school also go this Mathnasium only supports that the decision we made was the best for our daughters future. Lily and her staff at the Burbank Mathnasium are wonderful. Lily gives my daughter strategies that teachers don't teach in school. My daughter was two years behind in math.
