I had an uprooted tree removed and another tree on the corner of my home that was getting old removed. With the tornado ripping through the area, there were Contractors knocking on my door leaving their business cards and flyers every day. I decided to go with this Mathias Precision Tree Service, and I cannot express how glad I am that I made the right decision. Instead of getting voicemail messages, I was able to actually talk to a live person. I cannot say enough about Katie's (Katy's) professionalism, great phone etiquette, returned calls in a timely and she just stayed on top of every single thing from the beginning to the end. Three large Bradford/Cleveland Pear trees needed pruned and I found 3 quotes from local companies. Mathias came in with the low bid so I decided to give them a try. The quote was "Prune 3 bradfords back fence line. Away from arborvitae, raise, remove dead, thin out sucker growth." They were quick to respond and were able to come fairly quickly since I was flexible on time. Unfortunately, they only spent about an hour on the pruning and did only what they could reach from the ground. The crew seemed more interested in getting done for the day and finishing early than doing the job. One of the trees still has substantial dead limbs that were not removed and the sucker growth was only cleared from the bottom 1/4 of all the trees - only what they could reach from the ground. They would not cut any length from branches but only remove a branch entirely. I will still have to remove a few low branches that were not removed as part of the raising of the canopy. On a positive note, they did an excellent job of cleaning up the debris and left very little indication of the work. Yes, I plan to remove the trees in the future, but I was hoping to extend the time by getting them cut back and cleaned up. I doubt that they will last another year or two without further damage so I will likely cut them down sooner than later. read more

I tried a few other tree services, and none called me back. Mathias got right back to me, at a very busy time... They came out in 2 days and did a wonderful job of taking some HUGE branches off a tree that were dead and overhanging the direct middle of my house, They were clean, relatively quiet, and very non-intrusive. Also very courteous and considerate. I have a lot of trees, but these branches were especially dangerous, and they did a wonderful job, were EXTREMELY reasonable, did beautiful clean up, and I can't recommend them highly enough, I'll use them again for any future tree problems, hands down! read more

My family used their services to remove 2 trees on our front yard that were getting too big. They did good work, however, in our contract we signed, it stated they would provide wood chip haul away following the tree removal. They did not remove the wood chip piles after the service. We called and asked when they would be cleaning this up, and they said they wouldn't be doing that for us. WHAT?! breach of contract right? Anyways, very unhappy that they didn't honor this part of the contract and now its something we have to deal with. We felt with the price we paid for 2 tree removals, they could at least help us out with the chip removal!!! Completely unacceptable to me, but stuck with no options. Now we have 2 giant piles of wood chips on our front lawn that is hideous. Unfortunately, I will not request services from this company again, nor do I recommend this company to anyone else. read more

Out of my 3 estimates, Mathias quoted what I thought to be a fair price. I therefore responded to the email that I was accepting it and I'd like to know when I could schedule the work. They didn't respond to my email. The next day their crews just showed up to my home at 7:30am. Didn't knock or ring the doorbell. Didn't have me sign anything. Didn't talk to me about my expectations. They simply came onto my property and began the work. Initially I assumed it was garbage trucks because surely no reputable business would do that. After checking my cameras and seeing them in my yard, I discovered I was wrong. I let them continue and went outside. The quote was to "clean up storm damaged limbs off of the house and yard", which was done. But also, to "custom prune tulip tree in back yard, raise canopy, remove deadwood, prune away from the house and power lines". As I am not a professional arborist, I hired them. To me, "pruning" means that the tree wouldn't be as wide as it was prior and that the branches wouldn't be so close to my home when they finished. As explained to me by them, it means "making the tree healthier". They raised the canopy by cutting two lower branches. Two. Deadwood was removed by the crew climbing into my 30+ foot tree and using hand tools not unlike those I've used from Home Depot to trim it myself. So, as you may have imagined, some were missed. As for pruning away from power lines, they didn't mean ALL the power lines. I was told by the crew they couldn't mess with the branches intertwined with the ones in my back yard because it was Ameren's responsibility and they didn't have whatever they needed to deal with them. This wasn't specified in my quote. After complaining about my expectations versus what I actually got, someone came out. His visit was scheduled for 11am. He showed up at 10am, saying he had it down wrong. He explained that my expectations were unhealthy for the tree and I should know which power lines Ameren is responsible for and which Mathias was allowed to touch. If you decide to use this company, please insist on better communication than what I received. If ANY company does an estimate without you being present, learn from my mistake and discuss the work that will be done and make sure you're on the same page. They are so busy trying to get work done that they forget that effective communication is the most important key to good customer service. I have 1 star for thorough branch clean-up and a 2nd star for coming out again. But I am in no way satisfied with how my tree looks after whatever work they did. God Bless. read more

Outstanding service and professionalism! Owner bid the job as expected but he was actually onsite as well getting the work done. The team was fast and efficient. Yard was cleaned up much better than I expected. Had one large tree fall down in a storm and a couple others I wanted down. 3 days after the storm my yard was back to normal, just less shade! Wow!!!! What an impressive operation. I was somewhat of a pain too lol I mixed them up with another company I had asked for insurance and never received. Josh wrote back saying they sent it, but would send again. He and Katie were so gracious. When I didn't hear back for a little bit, I resent my email regarding scheduling and showed pictures of big limbs falling on our car and electrical wire. I bet it wasn't 10 min and Josh responded and said I'll have a crew there tomorrow. WOW!! That's service. They were indeed here at 8am SHARP. Our experience was very good. We needed the deadwood of an oak tree cleaned up and received 4 quotes. 2 were very high and 2 were better. Mathias was one of the better prices and we went with them. The crew came out within a few days and brought 3 trucks carrying professional equipment. They did the trimming and cleaned up all debris. Great service and very professional, would use again! They took down a very large Bradford pear tree that was growing close to the house.
