I won't be writing an essay re unrelated to radiology issues. From my long trial-and-error this facility is far from my first choice when it comes to mainstream things like MRI, simply because the experience of the doctor and quality of the report if far more important than interior décor and receptionist's smile, as long as the reception knows their trade.
Having said so, the reception was the worst part of my experience with Mater Nuclear (separate from main Mater Imaging reception). It took a few days to get their reception on the phone to make an appointment, and when they did answer, the receptionist maintained that the radiation dose will be as regular X-Ray. After they injected the radioactive substance, I found out that the dose will be far from X-ray, rather some 10x of that!
If I knew beforehand, I would not even book the exam as the benefit does not overweight the huge health damage, but they won't have their hefty fee then.
The receptionist did not tell to bring previous CT scans, even though the doc asked for them. When on my return for a second scan I did bring previous scans, she (calling herself Shelly) said that they don't have space for them.
When I came to pick the report and my films, I asked the other receptionist on duty to have a word with the doc, and she told me to come another day when the doc is there. When I came, Shelly categorically denied any possibility to ask the doc questions regarding the report.
They can't give images electronically, only poorly-printed on paper with resolution where they are not sure themselves which part of the body has a problem. Unlike in first-world countries, the report does not say what isotope was used and how much of it, how much radiation was received from it as well as from CT scan.
When I complain to Mater Hospital regarding that service, they try to distance themselves from that establishment, even though the brochures and entire service is branded as Mater Imaging. Should I go to http://www.alfredmedicalimaging.com.au/index.php which allegedly is another body providing that service, their "Contact Us" link navigates to an empty page and no Practice or Office Manager is listed for Mater Hospital!
It is amazing that establishments like that are trusted handling radioactive materials in this country! read more
