Robert Lyn is one of the first 'fashion' shops that I came across during my jaunts in Pudsey town,…read moreand I must admit I hoped that not all of the ladies fashion shops would be similar. It's not that there is anything particularly offensive about the clothes inside, but they weren't really to my taste. I think it's that the style and fashion within is that which can be definitively pinned down to a certain age - and I do mean stereotypically, I don't suggest for a second that older women *should* wear these things, merely that they appear to be marketed towards those women. The clothes are all very 'safe', with classic lines and simplistic prints. The items are all rather sleek, and I imagine would best suit a slighter figure, and the currently displayed are all in monotone shades of grey and natural beiges. There were the odd bits of pink too. One of the sale items in the window, arranged on the side of the wall, was particularly 'dowdy' in my opinion - with a bit of a tame floral print and asymmetric flamenco hem at the bottom. It was a full length garment, which appeared to have little shape, and I guess that it defines my overall impression of Robert Lyn. Not offensive, not bad but definitely not my style. For the more conservative lady, I believe.

My good friend suggested I paid a visit to Robert Lyn Fashions in Pudsey. I went along dreading the expieriance of finding something suitable for the occasion, (how wrong could I be) within 2 hours I had purchased a beautiful dress and jacket that looked good, felt good and made me feel special. Nothing was too much trouble for the husband and wife team, there was no sales pressure and Lyn delivered lots of fashion advice and tips. Apart from the outfit I actually purchased I had a choice of many others in different styles colours and designs. I was made to feel comfortable throughout my visit, so no more long shopping trips for me Robert Lyns will always be by first choice for all special occasions.

Does that mean they have some excellent second-hand high end to low end brand labels? Definitely. Let me explain. It's Horsforth. It's New Road Side, and there's a lovely run of little shops along the road. Along one end you'll see Sophie's Choice snugly tucked in between a couple of establishments, and when you spot it, you must go inside. For starters, the staff. They've always been really lovely. If you want a bit of advice because your male housemate is useless at giving a fashion-related opinion, call on the ladies that work there. Secondly, the clothes are simply great. I've no idea where they source their items, but as I mentioned previously, there's simply a myriad of labels. More importantly, the clothes are really different. Whilst labels aren't something that I worry about, per se, being told I'd picked up a dress that was featured in Vogue for only £49 seems like a true bargain to me. And I left feeling super smugly fashionable to boot. Thirdly, the prices are excellent. I've bought a wee jacket here for £15, and new shoes as well. Dresses seem to range from a tenner upward, though I'd not seen any more that about £70 so you know it won't break the bank to find a real gem either. The only slight issue is that the odd item is marked -I saw one with those fatal deoderant marks, but that is to be expected of second hand items here and there. In any case, it's a fantastic little shop and I'm only glad I don't come to Horsforth more often - I'd be broke! One final note: they're old school and don't have a card machine! Never fear though, there's an ATM just down t' road.

Or is it actually appropriate these days to name a dress agency after a book about the holocaust? I concede, or at least hope, that the owner simply wasn't aware of the implications of the name, as this shop is actually a nice idea. You can come here and hire posh outfits for parties, ideal if you don't want to spend £100 on a wedding outfit you'll never wear again. They've got everything from M&S to designer names, and outfits and accessories to suit a range of budgets. It's just a shame they're either poorly read or have a rather macabre sense of humour.

But inside you realise that there is so much more! It's quite bizarre, I don't think I've come across such a shop of all trades, but here it is. As well as some very cool on-trend clothings you can purchase other interesting items such as glassware and umbrellas, jewellery and accessories. Everything in the shop looks to be of good quality and it certainly looks modern and cool. It's not so much my style but I appreciate a good set of wine glasses no matter what the style! For an interesting browse and perhaps a cool one off purchase, try Harriet's.

I complained to the Owner, left my number for her to call, she called and was cut off and did not call me back. If that was my business I would be mortifed. But she clearly was not. They regularly shut the shop early, I know this as I pass by most evenings. I went in once at 4.45pm and was asked to leave as they were closing! The lady did not apoogise, just ordered me out. I have heard them slating the owner on more than one occasion, last time it was about how she has stopped buying tea and milk for her shops. Even though they can have nice things in the shop, I just don't bother as they clearly are do not care about how they appear to their customers and the Owner can't want the trade. Avoid. I hear Sohie's Choice on New Road Side is Amazing so looking to visit there regularly to spend my money,

I really do feel for any girls out there whose only option is to spend a vast amount purely due to their cup size requirements. But, I would suggest to those ladies, this shop may be the secret you've been hoping for. The first thing my friend and I noticed on entering was the extensive range of sizes within. Usually all you can hope for is B - E but we were seeing AAs to Gs, and beyond, all over the place! There was also a beautiful selection of night dresses, a lacy ruby red item caught my eye, some cosy looking dressing gowns and some delightful 'cyber jammies' pyjamas. My favourite nightwear item was a sort of 'boyfriend shirt' type night dress, which looked like it would be both comfy and sexy in that very casual kind of way. For all you nightwear and underwear needs this place is both great value and beautifully stocked. The staff are helpful too, so don't be afraid to ask. Lovely!

This store is massive! It packs a lot of stuff all under one roof! Lovely sari fabrics from around £15.99. I often buy the plain white silk ones for £15 and cut into smaller pieces and dye for other things.Ornate saris make wonderful furnishing fabrics too. A great selection of haberdashery..lovely ribbons and trims. A bargain bin with short pieces of amazing fabrics at about 8 pieces a £1. Some stunning jewellery as well and indian cosmetics and hennabindis, henna tattoos and I also stock up on incense. The huge emporium is a gleaming bazaar with rolls of silks in every possible shade. Racks of spangled shoes and sandals seem to come straight from Bollywood. Yet there are also racks of little girls' organdie dresses like those worn by Shirley Temple in the 1930s. Indeed, something about Bombay Stores is very comforting for English people: it is as if time has stood still. For the Asian community is a taste of home. There is order and calm, no pressure selling and plenty of space to wander from the boutique, selling Bollywood pop hits and videos, to the cafe, en route to the fabrics, suits and shoes. I always keep carrying armfuls of stuff to the checkout but now they have also devised a new idea. In fact there's so much that the only way to shop for larger goods is to browse the store and pick up tickets for each item that you want to purchase, and when you're done you go to the checkout, give in your tickets and all your items will be ready to pay for and collect. I bought a huge, thick fleecy throw for about £20 and everyone wants to steal itit is so soft and luxurious! The brains behind Bombay Stores is 68-year-old Abdul Kader, who came to Britain in 1957. He knew nobody, and started with nothing, but there were jobs. He worked on the London buses and in the Bradford mills. By 1963 he had bought his first business, a former fish and chip shop. His capital was only £100 and his wife, Maryam, worked long hours in the shop making dresses while he drove buses on a double shift to pay for the enterprise. He expanded to the present premises in Shearbridge Road in 1983. Today, annual turnover is £10m and he employs 70 workers. Very efficient and helpful service. They have a cafe for wonderful samosas, coffee and good western style kids meals too. Bombay Stores in Bradford not only sells fabrics that attract customers from all over the world, it also brings together a multicultural community. It is the UK's largest Asian department store. They have a web site with a small online catalogue and various department goods. Opening times: Mon to Fri 10:00am till 07:30pm Sat 10:00am till 08:00pm Sun 12:00pm till 06:00pm

I feel so annoyed that I went and spent pretty much *all* my wages before finding this gem - as I can tell you, there would have been some spendage. Inside they have a huge range of delightful shoes, handbags fascinators and other little items. The shoes they have in are fantastic, mostly I think, because there is such a range to suit everyone. As well as having boots (both Ugg style and heeled) they had a range of cute little pumps. They had beautiful court shoes and beautiful vintage style dolly shoes. I was in shoe heaven, and so was my friend, who went away with two beautiful pairs of pumps - which were not only half price, but also scented too! Amazing. The handbags were also gorgeous, my favourite being a rather large black faux leather number with embroidered red roses over the top. They had all colours, shapes and sizes - so again, something for everyone! The fascinators were also exquisite. They had a range of simplistic ones, which were bought in, and a range that are hand made by a local lady. In this way you can go in and find the almost perfect fascinator and make bespoke requests - such as, "I love this one, but I need it in jade green!" How handy is that?! Finally, the staff in this shop were particularly wonderful. They were friendly, attentive and not pushy at all. At first I needed to sit down, so the lady welcomed me to sit and had a friendly natter. As we browsed up stairs the manager (I believe) told us all about the stock and the fascinators and then helped my friend purchase her lovely new shoes. The whole shopping experience was a delight! Couldn't be more fond, you have to go and see for yourself!
