Master Garage Door subcontracts to other individuals who can be horrible! Recently I had "Same Day Garage Door" to come to repair our garage door. The repair should be very simple, but the guy almost forced me to replace the springs and other parts, and they don't want to tell how much is going to be (They want to charge a sky-high number after it is done). Out of my basic instinct, I insisted not replacing the springs. For about 40 minutes (most of the time was working on unnecessary things), they charged 450. Never use them again! read more

We recently moved and discovered that one of the garage doors in the new place wouldn't open. We found Master Garage Door Services on Angie's List and bought a $20 deal to get their evaluation. They came by right on time, took a quick look at the door and told us we needed to replace the springs and rollers. The cost...$250. We felt that it was a big commitment to make on the spot, so we decided to get a 2nd opinion. The next company that came by immediately observed that someone had used the red rope (so that the door could be used manually) and never put it back. Literally 2 seconds later, they reset it and it worked fine. They didn't even charge us. We obviously didn't need the spring and roller replacement that Master Garage Door Services recommended. My wife backed into the garage door after it did not fully retract. The door was off one track and would not budge until released for manual operation. We called Aaron Doors who installed the door about 10 years ago and they referred Master to us. Apparently they were short staffed and the owner was overseas. Master came right out and diagnosed the problem. We were happy to find that the door itself was fine but most of the hardware and springs were in need of replacement. Said and Jimmy were the two fellows I dealt with and both were responsive. Jimmy actually performed the estimate and did the work. He was quite professional, pleasant and cleaned up everything after finishing. He informed me that Master got about 50% of its referrals from Aaron. The system we have now is a roller as opposed to side by side springs. This is much better as there is less strain on the garage door opener motor and the door now retracts and closes much more smoothly than before. We have a single door double wide. I opened and closed it 20 times as a test. All was fine. I was quoted an estimate of ~$700 and the final bill was a few dollars less. I recommend Master for any work involving garage doors. I had my garage door opener replaced yesterday (10/24/2018) by Jimmy (owner). The cost was $500 (which seemed pricey) but Jimmy said it was a top of the line replacement. He came out inspected the unit and installed the new one later the same day. He said the opener should last 15-20 years with maintenance and added an additional year to the 3 year warranty. I ordered an automatic garage door opener from Amazon on Black Friday for $268, I called Master Garage Door for a price quote for it to be installed. I spoke with Tina, who was very nice and told me that Chamberlin is of higher quality and is the brand they deal with. She quoted $499.00 installed. We agreed, and Jim, her husband, was to come and install it the following day. Jim was pleasant and arrived on time to do the installation. When he arrived, he looked at the ceiling and said, "oh, there is no existing setup?" I said no, Tina never asked if there was. He responded, no worries. I then showed him my other garage door because it needed an alignment. After looking at it, he said, no problem, I can repair it for $100. I left him in the garage and went on with my day. Later, when I checked on him, I asked about the keypad. He responded $49 extra. I'll give it to you at cost, and I'll help you program it. I thought it was odd that this garage door opener didn't come with a keypad, the Gene that I ordered did. Later that afternoon, I heard a knock at the door. When I entered the garage, he said there was a pop, and the spring for the garage door broke. He said, "Don't worry, I'll give you a great deal. "I can repair the whole thing for $250.00, my friend that is a great deal" My garage has two doors. One door I use all of the time because it has an opener, and the other I rarely use because it does not have a garage door opener. That is the one he said broke. When I moved the door, there was no tension. I could not argue that it didn't happen because I wasn't there. At this point, I was concerned that he might have been trying to hustle me. When he was done, both of the garage doors worked great. He charged me $900.00. I begrudgingly paid it and said let me get on with my day. Later that evening, when I read the manual, in the carton inventory list, there were 19 items. Number 16 was a keypad, which he charged me an additional $49, and number 17 was 2 multifunction control panels which I didn't get either. I was outraged and called his office. I spoke with Tina, who said Jim would call me the following day. When we spoke Jim gave me a bunch of fast-talk, basically saying, don't believe your lying eyes, your garage door opener does not come with a keypad. He went on to tell me that the Items on the carton inventory list didn't come with it. (What?) He stressed it doesn't come with a keypad. Then he offered $50 no, $100 off the next service because he wanted to keep his customers happy (yeah, ok). Initially, I was prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt with the keypad and the broken spring. Not sure why, I had never met him before. However, when I read the manual and spoke with him, I realized he is a fast-talking hustler. Who took a $600 job and milked it into $900. People who do that type of business are not around for long. I will share my experience with anyone that will listen. It is the only thing I can do to prevent him from ripping off other would-be customers. read more

WE just had our new garage door opener installed this morning and I'm REALLY impressed with the company we chose. I found them on Home Advisor and they returned my call for a free estimate within 20 minutes. They were even ready to come out within an hour to provide estimate. (I waited till the next day). Jimmy came out and looked at our 35 year old unit. He immediately gave me a quote of $500 for a new unit, 2 remotes and new rubber wheels. Though I had two others coming out for estimates I chose this company right away. The quote was given Thursday morning and they came out today (Saturday)) at 9:15 AM (on time) and had us finished by 11:30AM. They (Jimmy and a helper) cleaned up after themselves. My husband saw a Master Garage Door van driving by, and he asked the driver if he could stop by our house and fix the stripping surrounding our garage door. My husband went to work. I was on a vacation day and was home that day. Within the hour, the owner (I think his name is Jimmy) arrived, did the job, charged us a fair price, and everything was perfect. Then, I had a new car and needed a new remote garage door opener and called Master Garage Door. Tina made the appointment, efficiently and politely, and she sent Jimmy to our house. He showed up exactly on time and immediately assessed the situation. Without any pressure either way, he explained my choices and told me that, if I wanted, I could have a much newer (our garage door opener system was 25 years old!) system, 3 remotes, it would be much quieter, and it could be done the next day, even with all the rain in the forecast. It seemed too good to be true, and he could read my hesitation. On his cellphone, he brought up videos with audio of my system (loud, screeching noise) and the new system (unbelievably quieter) and shared them with me. Although it was the more expensive option, he still told me he would be happy to do either job. He hadn't steered me wrong before, so I went with the newer system, and what a outstanding choice that turned out to be. He showed up right on time, did the entire job precisely as he described, left no mess, took care of every detail, and followed my instructions exactly. I didn't even have to mail payment. Tina came to our house to pick up my check. They could not have been more accommodating and fabulous. The only bad part is in the eyes of my kids! With the loud, screeching garage door, they used to know when I was arriving home and pulling my car into the garage. That gave them a minute's advance notice to quickly hide the junk food, clean up their rooms, turn off their ridiculous computer video games, and pretend they were doing their homework. Now, with the much quieter garage door, they don't hear me when I arrive home, I pull my car into the garage, and I open the door and make my way upstairs and catch them in the act! I hired master garage doors to replace a couple of garage doors in the northeast of Philadelphia. The guy came over for an estimate and we agreed that he will put new good quality garage doors, and he would take the old garage doors and cleanup the job site once he finishes. I gave him some deposit, and setup an appointment a few days later for the installation one afternoon. I took half day from my job to be there with them. Half hour before the work is supposed to start, I called the installer to check and his wife told me : oh sorry, we totally forgot. He's out of town. Can we setup the installation another day? Next day, the installer called me: "sorry we can do the installation tomorrow afternoon?" Next day, the same thing. He didn't show up, and he talked about being too busy. Now that he has my deposit, he's throwing me like a foot ball. Finally he proposed to come install the garage doors a few days later. He came over, with an underage helper. He did put a cheap garage door brand, called "Advantage". He rushed to finish as quick as possible. Very poor cleaning after the job. As far as the old door, he took the metal pieces and rails (because he sells them as scrap $$$$), and he left me the old large wooden pieces. He assured me he will come back a couple of days later with a large truck to pick the old junk doors. He never showed up even after I contacted him again. Now 3 weeks later, they never showed up and the old garage doors are still thrown on the back of my house. Master garage doors is a looser, untrustworthy, fake, unprofessional, Unhonest, and crook. Do not hire this guy from master garage doors because he will do a less than acceptable job, he will not clean after the job, and after all he will install a cheap brand of garage doors, "advantage".
