I found Island Sun Cleaning through Yelp's Project feature and I'm so glad that I did! Out of all the other businesses that I requested quotes from, Alessandra was the fastest to respond, friendliest to talk to, and most reasonably priced. She was also willing to take the appointment with short notice - we originally planned for the next morning, but I ended up getting sick. Fortunately, Alessandra was extremely accommodating and we were able to reschedule for the week after. When it came time for the cleaning, Alessandra arrived with her husband, and they were both very friendly and pleasant to talk to. I was worried that my half-unpacked apartment would be an issue to work around, but they said it was no problem. When cleaning the bathroom, it turned out that the apartment was even dirtier than I thought - it was as if the previous tenants hadn't cleaned for years, and the bathroom tiles needed an intensive deep clean. Despite this discovery, Alessandra's estimate that the job would take 2 hours was still correct - within that time, she and her husband were able to deep-clean the bathroom, the windows, and they even got the floors on their way out! I also used to find cleaning enjoyable and even therapeutic. Well, then I found a career I LOVE that just so happened to require 60-80/hr weeks, and learned what a misery it is to have the choice between living in a constantly dirty house, or spending the little free time I did have constantly catching up on cleaning. Not sure which is worse. I did that for about a year and change before finally realizing whatever money it cost was WELL worth the QUALITY OF LIFE hiring someone would give me. After my first time, what a confirmation. I shopped around quite a bit, found companies with sketchy arguments online between owner and customers, found companies that were eco-friendly but refused to do certain (basic?) tasks because of this- I love the idea of being green, but what's the point of paying someone if you still have to do half of it yourself?... and even found apps that seemed convenient but required crazy contracts. I knew of several independent cleaners that friends and family used, but didn't want to have that personal attachment that sometimes can be a burden to do business with (feeling bad if you have to cancel, feeling bad for getting annoyed if they cancel, feeling bad about complaints etc). I knew MaidPro by name, didn't think much of it, but when I visited the website and saw their EXTENSIVE checklist they complete every visit, I knew that's what I wanted- Peace of mind that everything is done. I mean, that's the whole point right? Pricing is also very reasonable, and the ease of service (don't have to be home if you don't want to, and so many convenient options for payment) plus no contract required made the deal even better. The service itself- the bottom line of course- was immaculate. George came to my home- sorry I'd didn't get to meet him, I would have hugged him! My house hadn't had a deep cleaning in over a year, and truth be told (the shame!) hadn't had even a regular cleaning in months, except basics like dishes, laundry, toilet, sinks, and wiping the counter. I almost cried when I walked in to a sparkling house down to every detail. Since it had been so long, I also requested the blinds to be cleaned, the fridge, and inside the stove- I still can't believe they're all clean. Even though I skimmed their checklist, I must have missed a few, because what a happy shock to see my bed made like a hotel, and even the coffee cup and spoon I left in the sink that morning had been washed. George left us a nice note, a completed checklist, and -at long last- a beautiful house to come home to. And there is not many greater, lovely, comfy feelings of contentment than putting your feet up in a clean home. I even got a call the next day from the office to follow up on how my cleaning was (which of course I've been working too much to respond to, lol, but now will). I thought it was a mistake as I already did pay for a cleaning service I had two weeks ago immediately after the completion of the service. I had confirmed with the 3 cleaners that day that the amount I paid was the correct amount and also gave them a generous tip on top of the price of the service. On Venmo, the cleaners liked my payment and thanked me. I adhered to what I thought was my end of the bargain. Marli proceeds to tell me that the price is per cleaner per hour which is not what was originally communicated to me on the phone. The whole conversation was very odd and confusing considering it was two weeks after the service and I thought I already paid generously based on what original price that was communicated. The rest of the conversation was unprofessional with her accusing me of things I never said, such as that I told the cleaners I was going to Venmo her directly the additional amount owed. I never said that and I was just trying to understand what the heck was going on and not feel like I was being taken advantage of or being confused with another customer. She also made a comment about her workers needing the money more than I did which I thought was completely out of line. If you use Marli's cleaning service, I highly recommend you get it in writing how much is being quoted so there in no question what's being charged and no wildly unprofessional accusations. It seems like they do work under the radar on weekends and try not to keep any paper trails of transactions. It was all very shady. It wasn't about the money as I went on to Venmo the additional amount Marli claimed I owed. What upset me was how I was treated and the accusations made. I will be setting up frequent cleanings going forward but just not with this company.

I contacted Marissa of Blue Rose because of her proximity and the description of her services on Yelp. To my amazement she was available the next day. I asked what her rate is after describing the job and she said she could give me a ball park estimate of $120-$200 because she needed to see it. Fair enough. We arranged for her to arrive at 10 am next morning. I was staying a 45 minute drive away and when I checked Waze , I realized I'd be about 10 minutes late, so I called her. It was clear she was either not really awake yet or was hung over. She had no recollection of our appointment. Alarmed, I asked if she could still make it a bit later and she said yes so we agreed on 10:30. As I was driving there, she called, still sounding groggy and said she'd need a little more time, so we agreed on 11:00 am. I got there at 10:30 and at 10:58 she called, mumbling something about " I can't find my equipment." Seriously? Nope! I told her to forget it as I only have time in my life to work with reliable people.Very frustrating experience and complete waste of my morning in a stressful week of moving.
