I had such a great experience getting my lash lift done today! The service was wonderful, and I'm extremely happy with how my lashes turned out. The experienced student who did my hair was kind and did a beautiful job drying it. There was a brand New student drying one side of my hair. She pulled on my hair, left knots in my hair b4 drying. I asked her not to pull on my hair. She was so rude and talked back to me very unkind. I was blamed for it all. I would NEVER recomnend this school! They used cheap products, it only makes sense since they're charging only a fraction of the price. I made a mistake of trusting this place to do my hair. The students were very friendly and interpersonal. One student was too sleepy and teasing my hair and hurt my scalp 3x which was frustrating. But the teacher was careless and had an attitude. Just her technique and watching her go about teaching the students seemed careless and unprofessional to me. I had an allergic reaction the next days and informed the school. THIS SHOULD NOT BE OK! I asked to see their products 3 times and they said they would and end up not showing me the ingredients which is shady to me. This is a careless practice. The female teacher had the audacity to gaslight and make up reasons for why this would occur. Next time, DO BETTER and have COMPASSION, learn from your customers and learn to listen, not to answer back. If that was you, youd be upset I cannot recommend this place. read more

Waste of time. I went here to get an education & learn how to cut hair. Overall, it was a toxic & unprofessional environment. The office is irresponsible & horrible at keeping financial records of payments/tracking hours. The teachers will bully students learning how to cut hair or that have questions. No guidance. I feel bad for the students that continued their education there because they simply want to learn & master a craft. If you're looking for an affordable option with financial aid that will cover the tuition costs then look into a local community college. read more

This place is HORRIBLE!!! As someone who had no choice but to complete the Master Academy Long Beach Barber Program, I can honestly say this is NOT THE PLACE TO LEARN HOW TO CUT HAIR. They are only after your money, not for what's in your best interest. If you have experience cutting hair and are just looking for hours to get licensed, then this is the place for you. The Barber instructors (PB&J) will gaslight students and talk down to them instead of taking the time to teach the material and techniques. Instead of guiding students through a haircut with a walk-in client, the instructor is doing push-ups in the middle of the classroom or yelling random instructions from the comfort of their chair. When students express their frustrations to the school's administration of the inadequacy in education, the owners will not take corrective action. Because issues aren't properly addressed, tensions run high and it has led to physical altercations between instructors and students or students on students. All I can say is if you decide to go here be sure to monitor your contract and tuition payments, along with your credible hours. Don't believe me? Ask any student who has attended this school whether they had a positive or negative experience and I guarantee you 95% will respond with a negative one. read more

This is a hidden gem! I've gotten haircuts, color, and pedicures. My husband gets haircuts on the barber's side and he always looks amazing. I am very satisfied with all the services, they are thorough and the instructors are always checking in to make sure the client is satisfied and students get guidance. I've come in with inspirational pictures and the instructors have taken their time to ask me questions to narrow down exactly what I want. An active Barber and make-up school, I was impressed with the level of activity and participation and the number of students. I had a mess of covid hair and the student Ray was very conscientious about how I wanted my haircut. Be carefully sectioned my longer hair and had his instructor help him determine how to cut it. I was very happy with the haircut and as a 73-year-old senior with the price which was only $3. I left Ray a $5 tip so either way it was a very inexpensive way to get my haircut. I recommend patience if you do go as there's a lot going on. read more

I wasn't expecting a good experience due to my son Omar who has a touch of ADHD/mild autism has never had a great haircut experience always fidgety, moves his head constantly, and hates the sensation of it all little hairs, getting hair wet, the use of clippers. But to my surprise Sol and Omar connected as a Mom it was the best feeling seeing your child enjoying something that has always been a struggle (many school pics with bad haircuts). Sandra was the student assigned to her and throughout the whole process my aunt said that Sandra was very tentative, kind and professional. Gave her exactly what she asked for and would check on her to make sure she was comfortable. In the end, my auntie cant stop talking about how happy she is with her cut, color and her experience as a whole. Color came out great; better than expected. I I use yelp so often and never do I take the time to post anything, but this truly deserves my time to share with you all my experience. I saw a photo on social media of color and cut and compliment how beautiful it was. Happened to be my friend (Belen) who is currently a student here who told me of the services they offer. I was so iffy about trusting anyone since my last experience at a very highly spoken of salon was super sucky. Bummer, to keep it short my hair was falling out and the hair that wasn't felt rubber band like. I decided I'd give it a shot since my hair looked awful, and I'm so glad I did ! I got a keratin treatment that helped me with my super frizzy hair and a very needed haircut. It's been a few days and I've gotten a ton of compliments on how healthy my hair looks. The best part of this treatment is the price! It's a 300 dollar treatment at any salon and I paid 75. Yes, 75!!! I'm so, so glad I came in. I usually go to beauty schools to get my hair colored if it's just one simple color and they usually do a great job.... I must say this beauty school lacks professionalism in all kinds of way .. They had a student who's only been there for two weeks color my hair which was fine ,but the INSTRUCTOR was something else . The instructor is some rude Spanish speaking lady with orange blonde brassy highlights who helped applied the color to my hair.. she was very rough on my head especially when combing it . when it came down to washing my hair.. the washing area looked so unsanitary.. the instructor sat me down on a chair that had water all over it, didn't care to wipe it down prior to washing my hair ..What made me really upset was the Damn instructor washed my hair and purposely sprayed the water in my eyes a few times . She saw water dripping down my face and didn't even have the decency to wipe it off ! The instructor left a bad taste in my mouth. I'll never come back..I've been a hair stylist for 10 yrs & by far this is the worst experience I've ever had . I'm never coming back read more

Do NOT let them touch your hair!!!!!!!! I came here to get a root touch up & an ombre. I was there from 9am to 3pm!!! 6 hours! First, they did the ombre then the root touch up. Good thing I wore a sweatshirt I didn't care for because the teacher got hair color allllllllllllll over it and did not care at all. No apology or at least a discount for the un-professionalism there. After the ombre was done, they asked if I wanted to trim the ends & I specifically in "just a little bit" 3 times. THE TEACHER PRETTY MUCH CUT OFF THE WHOLE BLOND LAYER OF THE OMBRE !!!!!! $90 down the drain and 6 hours wasted. Also, the hair color they used for my root touch up was gone by the 4th time I washed my hair. read more

I usually don't write reviews but today is an exception. I came from out of town to visit my aunt in California with my family. By recommendation I went to The Master Academy in Long Beach. My husband got his haircut in the barbering section of the school and he was extremely happy with his haircut and the overall experience. I went in for hair color and a keratin treatment and may I say I am very pleased with the outcome, friendly service, price and overall experience. I most definitely recommend The Academy if you would like to get a great quality haircut or color service at a fraction of the cost. I can't wait to go back in my next vacation trip. read more
