Another one of my private clients was in the market for his own table, so of course I directed him to Massage Central. After giving him four price options (ranging from $379 to $989), he went to the store, squeezed the top-of-the-line one, and refused to touch another table. As a result, this is what I special ordered for him: The Heavenly Royal 30" wide table with 4" of memory foam cushioning ($989). This top-of-the-line table is custom made, and super helpful and friendly owner Samuel Lazar said that the manufacturer has such high levels of standards that if they make a table that isn't quite right, they will do it all over again from scratch rather than letting it ship out. I knew my client well enough - he wouldn't have minded if there was an extra wait time. He wants the best of the best, and nothing less - and the table he chose was exactly that! I also got him a $31 bolster, in black to match the table he will be getting. Two weeks later, friendly salesperson Keisha called and left me a message that this awesome table was in. When I went to pick it up, Samuel warned me that this all memory foam table was pretty heavy and wouldn't let me carry it out to my car. Once again he lifted it on top of my Miata and helped tie it down. As is now our ritual when I buy a table from him, he took a picture of it on top of my car, lol - and asked me to please call when I get home to make sure we both made it back safely. I was robbed, and needed to get a table bolster last min. I called the store letting them know that I was in a bit of traffic so is it possible to stay open 2mins later so that I can buy the product. Not only did the guy on the phone tell me no he will not stay open for my purchase, he also could careless as he said he needs to go to LAX. I tried anyway, and got there at 6:02, I saw the guy inside as the lights were on and he was packing up. I just looked at him like 2mins sir? You couldn't stay open for 2 more mins to make that sale?! This was the worst customer Service. You either gonna really like this place or not. The owner (Samuel) is old-fashion in his manor and straight to the point. He has his ways and he'd like you to follow them. If you don't like it, go somewhere else-mentality Don't come here unless you're seriously looking to buy. He has some good quality stuff and it seems like a lot of it is competitive with the pricing of online retailers The real value in my opinion is the possibility to feel and test tables, chairs, bolster and so on and sometimes you can also get lucky and get a really good deal on a refurbished table. That said you don't come here for warm customer service. You come here because you need it here and now, Samuel's knowledge on certain product, the potential good deal you can get and because you want to test it before you buy it. Be advice that they are taking very strict precaution during the time of me writing this because of covid, so only one customer at a time in the store and all transactions are managed with grabber rod and there are zoning you have to stay in during your visit inside the store. I came in to buy a new massage table, as my old one had many miles on it and it was much overdue. I am always pleased with how helpful and informative they are there (you can't get that kind of help online) You can do your research online first but there's nothing like walking in and getting an actual person to talk to. Getting to see and feel the products before buying is the way to go, and getting help on the proper way to use the new table or product is always a plus. BEWARE!!!! THIS PLACE IS A RIP OFF!!! They will rent out defective equipment, charge you and if you complain will blame you for not being able to use the defective piece of equipment and still not refund you. Not only that but all of their merchandise is overpriced! The same table I can buy at Amazon for $150 was twice as much here! If I can give this place a zero I would. Samuel and his wife are disgusting miserable human beings. They would not refund me after I had called them to explain their equipment was not working. I accompanied my friend to purchase his very first table. I was a little put off by the downtown wholesale style of the store (hence the 4 stars) and the woman at the front desk was on the phone. But she clarified she needed to order her lunch and wondered if it was ok with us. After that, Ann, the store clerk that day (and the Asian lady I'm assuming some of the bad Yelp reviews were about), was very helpful and explained what my friend would need as a beginner therapist. Once she got some food in her, we were having a great time and being very chatty. We even talked about having been in the military. She was very informative about how to open, close, and move the table (we were the only ones in the store so she demoed). She shared some tips with my friend. I don't know what the other reviewers were talking about but I had one of the better customer services I've ever experienced. As for products, the store seemed to have a wide selection of oils and lotions, massage chairs and tables, accessories, even Theracanes. Some things looked over priced like their candle holders for burning oil but other than that, the bigger items (tables, chairs) seemed reasonable. read more

I brought my almost 30 -year old living Earth Crafts vintage and great massage table in for repair, having discovered that my model is discontinued. Samuel was very very supportive of my wanting to keep my tried and true portable table and it came back to me today with a refund of some of my repair deposit since the trouble was fixed easier than expected. The shop is clean, convenient and a veritable oasis for the therapist or those in need of therapy products! Go on in after 11 AM and everything is right in front of you! I have had excellent emergency service (for my broken table) and also found a wonderful and beautiful refurbished smaller portable that works great for my practice too. Their service is spotty, I would NOT go here if I didn't have a voucher from the California Healing Arts College that could only be redeemed here. the two older women are delightful, the man who owns the place is onerous and odious to boot, and the younger asian saleswoman.. depends on the day. Less than relaxing, often less than helpful. I truly wish I could redeem my school voucher somewhere that doesn't rip me off, somewhere that doesn't try to push me into buying something I don't need/want. Again, the older women who are there are experienced, helpful, and utterly LOVELY. The owner is a stinker. My sister is a massage therapist so I come here once in a while. I think it is the only massage supply store in LA that you can actually walk in and experience the knowledgeable & helpful staff. While my sister buys gallons of massage lotion, table warmer, bolster, sheets, essential oils, etc, I usually grab the Muscle Comfort Cream from Soothing Touch. Anne at the store suggested that I should try it out and I love it. It's very smooth but doesn't leave your hands greasy, and takes away the muscle aches pretty quick. Great for after hitting the gym. If you're a massage therapist in LA (or going to be!) you should definitely stop by. You can call them too. What a bummer. No discounts for students. Also not the friendliest place. The woman who works there is very sweet but the owner is not too happy most of the time. I also believe its overpriced. I got my massage table here last year with a few sheets and things, and I still like my table a lot, but ill have to order sheets online. I was also interested in the classes they said they offered on their website, so I walked in and asked about them, he said "all booked". I asked when he may have availibility, he said "never"...?... sooo, I just left... I believe this place is great for table selection and choice and yes there are discounts on some tables, but for better priced sheets, hot stones and better attitude, I go elsewhere. read more

I have been coming here for over 10 years and have spent tens thousands of hard earned money as a body worker. I recently had to return a massage table carrying case (I had used for one week )due to a defective zipper. I was told by the owner that the damage of the zipper was due to negligence on my part. I have bought exactly 3 carrying cases over the last 15 years as a therapist and have never had to return any of them. Although the owner went ahead and replaced the item, I did not appreciate being blamed for the damage. I will no longer purchase anything from Massage Central. read more

Glad this store exists. We could use more like them. I don't live in Santa Monica so driving to the location can be a pain. Also, there's no way to know what you're going to find before you take the trouble to stop in. Their website doesn't reflect actual inventory and no prices are listed. Samuel also won't discuss prices over the phone. Like . . . he straight up refuses to tell you the price of anything. So I usually end up purchasing from an online merchant or direct from manufacturers. If you live in the area I recommend you check out this store. Hello. I've been massaging for 20 years. I used to purchase all my supplies for work at Bodywork Emporium in Sherman Oaks, many years ago. I preferred Bodywork Emporium to Massage Central because it was more spacious, so the energy somehow felt better. When the emporium closed, my only option was Massage Central, until I moved to the east coast. Then I moved back to California and my table got stolen from my car. I needed a new table. I wanted the Earthlite Spirit Portable Massage table package (the table, face rest, carrying case). So, I looked online but decided I wanted to see it in person and I like to give my business to actual stores, not just shop online for everything. I spoke with the owner on the phone, which was quite nice and finished convincing me that it's better to buy it in person. I never had any problems before at Massage Central. They have a lot of supplies that we need. Can we find it cheaper online? Yes. No doubt. But obviously at the store we can get it immediately. So, it was Saturday and we (my boyfriend went with me) got to the store at 5:25. They close at 6pm. There was no parking, not in the lot, not on the street. I finally got inside the store at 5:40. The employee stated as soon as we walked in, that she needed to be out of the store by 6 and I needed to be quick, which was fine because I knew what I wanted. Her energy was bad and I tried to ignore it because we all have bad days. That being said, when you are at work, you stuff your bad mood and/or frustrations away. Ok, so.... I got confused with the Earthlite Avalon table and she kept saying that we needed to hurry, to give her our debit card and get our things because it was too late to buy a table and she needed to be out the door by 6. I wanted a table, lotions, oil, face covers, a bolster, possibly some sheets, and maybe something else. She was very short with me and I assured her I'd be fast. But, much to her dismay, another client walked in. Wanting a table. The employee said there was no way she could ring both of us up. That other client said she had cash and wanted one of the cheaper tables, now. Like me, she came out from the valley, fought traffic to make it on a beautiful Saturday, when everyone was going out towards the beach. Sundays they are closed. It's impossible for me to make it out during the week, so Saturday evening was my only option. The traffic was horrible and there was no parking. Or I would have been inside at 5. Anyhow, the employee told the other customer that she was sorry (in a very frustrated/annoyed tone) but she should just go because she couldn't help her. At this point, I wanted to leave too. I really didn't want to purchase anything from this woman. Originally, I wanted the Spirit table. I ended up paying $409 for the Avalon package (which is $328 online). As you can see, it's cheaper. The table I wanted (Spirit) is more expensive, but this lady rushed me & I mixed up the names of what I wanted.... it was only $438 online, for the whole everything. I didn't leave because at this point, my boyfriend was extremely upset and just wanted to take the table which I had been wanting for a few months (since Christmas) but because of our schedules, we couldn't make it out. We bought the table. It's a beautiful teal Earthlite Avalon table. I also grabbed a bottle of lotion and another Biotone cream. I needed more supplies. I walked out of the store at 5:57pm. I had checked in on Yelp, so I was supposed to get a 4 piece free mini-travel kit from a company, that I don't remember the name but obviously, but there was no time for that. That woman would've had a heart attack had I asked her about it. So, now I need to order everything else I need online. My boyfriend told that woman she shouldn't be working in retail and that he was going to talk to the owner. Honestly, I've never seen an employee treat customers that poorly. I love my new table (even though I wanted the Spirit). It's because of that kind of service we received and the prices, that these kind of stores end up going out of business. It's unfortunate but I won't be returning to Massage Central. I would rate the place a 1, but I love my table and the owner was nice on the phone. Had he been there, this wouldn't have happened. You do not treat customers the way this woman did. I've seen her before (she's like 60) on many visits. I've always been nice to her & it always feels like she's not happy there. She never remembers me, which never happens anywhere I shop. That kind of energy isn't what is needed at a massage store. I don't think I've ever written such a long review. This establishment is HORRIBLE! The ladies that work there (except for a very nice asian woman) have terrible personal skills and are extremely rude!. The owner would rather lecture customers on how they sign their credit card signature than help them find what they need (not me, this was overheard as I was in the store). The last time I was in there I was completely ignored. When I asked for assistance the response I got was like the employee was too bothered to help. Both employees were rude and completely ignoring customers that clearly needed help. I actually commented at the time about the lack of customer service and rude behavior to one of ladies working. She asked me if I wanted to make a purchase and I told her, "Not anymore." and then I walked out. Prices on everything are greatly inflated and the quality of the last 3 set of sheets I have from there is awful. One washing and all sets of sheets shrunk. When I complained along with about 5 or 6 other individuals there was no attempt to rectify the situation in any way. We were simply told they are now carrying a different style of sheet that won't shrink. I would rather stab my eyeballs with an ice pick than shop at Massage Central.
