"Relax," she says over and over as her ice cold hands touch my injured neck causing all the hairs on my body to stand up. Doesn't help that her hands smell of an international food market and loud male voices float through the surrounding walls around me as I lie nude and vulnerable under thin white sheets. I take my massages very seriously as I have had back, neck, and shoulder problems all my life due to an unfortunate one short leg syndrome caused by DNA transfer (thanks mom). So naturally I have been constantly in and out of chiropractors, massage therapists, and physical therapists and I know what is effective and/or relaxing and what is not. I had received a Groupon certificate for Christmas for one 60 Minute Full Body massage at Massage by Sharon. For starters, the certificate said "Massage by Shron" rather than Sharon so that confused me entirely when searching for the correct business to contact for my future appointment. When finally deciding that the business was in fact "By Sharon" rather than "By Shron"I played phone tag with the gal for a week or so until finally getting ahold of her and booking my appointment. If you are wanting to schedule a massage of facial with Massage By Sharon you should know there is no such thing as a last minute appointment or scheduling in the case of another appointment's cancellation. She only schedules for 2 - 3 Weeks out at minimum. So be ready to plan ahead. Also be fair warned that the business location is tucked back off the street in a little room with a big green sign on the door. Not too hard to find but definitely not viewable from the street. Back to my experience.. So I had come to get this full body massage on a particularly stressful day at the end of a very physically painful neck week. Needless to say, I needed some loosening up and definitely had some high expectations for coming out of this more relaxed than when I first entered. I'll save you the suspense.. My expectations were not particularly met. Sharon was very sweet and while I did not understand a lot of what she said I knew she was trying to provide good customer service. Her massage was different than I had ever really experienced. Lots of weird rotational finger movements, and she got very angry any time I tensed up loudly requesting that I "Relax" and slightly jolting my body part to alert me to loosen up. The smells, noises, temperature and over all vibe of the room was all very uncomfortable for me. The only reason I would come back would be to try and figure out what the heck she was trying to accomplish on my shoulders with her uniquely odd techniques. I'd recommend this shop for those not looking to spend much on a back rub and who haven't had a high-quality (deep tissue) massage that puts you into a Cloud 9 like dimension before. If you come in with no expectations and have never had any chiropractic issues in the past this could be the place for you. Sharon definitely tries hard and has great first time pricing. I appreciated the effort but unfortunately it just wasn't the best fit for me. read more

I tried Gua Sha with my facial this week and did notice an energetic difference; as though my face was more distinct, as though the skin was bonded with the bones more precisely. What a lovely experience. I was having pain in my lower back after a lot of travel and she made a special last-minute trip to the office for me. I got the Groupon rate for the massage and "mini facial" (you don't need to book the Groupon - she'll honor the rate directly) and it was heavenly. The "mini" facial was a complete facial minus extractions. The massage hit all of the right spots in my lower back and then traced out to the direct insertion points with a perfect amount of pressure. Just want to provide an update, the original review is below. Several hours after I wrote this review, I received a call from Sharon where she called me a liar about 10-20 times and asking where I work / what I do for a living. I'm not sure why where I work / what I do for a living pertains to the massage I received or the review I wrote. I can only imagine. So, the call. Within several seconds of answering she started whinging and calling me a liar. When I questioned her on what aspects of my review she believed I was lying about, she said that everything she did, I asked for. As mentioned in the original review, I requested she focus only on upper body. Perhaps there was a miscommunication and she took upper body to mean only back. An upper body massage could involve arms, shoulders, chest. Which this massage did not include, with the exception of maybe 30 seconds on each arm while I was still on my back. The only other thing she accused me of lying about was my statement that "Pressure was okay for the most part, although she went too hard a few times." I did near the beginning request the she go a bit harder when she asked me how the pressure was, and she did go too hard a few times. This is not tantamount to lying, and while I mentioned the pressure in the original review, I stated "the pressure was okay for the most part" and it was not very central to my major grievances regarding not being flipped over the entire massage, the phone call, etc. When I confronted her about taking a phone call during the massage and continuing to massage me (with one hand on her phone, and one hand massaging), she halfheartedly apologized, but began giving excuses and started insulting me. She said that she picked up her daughters phone call because it could have been an emergency, and I quote, "I think you have no family, I think you have no children, thats why you have no feeling". Unbelievable. Looking at some of her other reviews, the phone call issue does not seem to be an isolated incidence. You'd think as a professional you'd take a bad review, reflect on it, take it as feedback, and improve where you can. Instead, she decided to call me, berate me, and call me a liar. read more

I had purchased a 60minute massage for my mother and I on Groupon and made morning appointments for a Saturday (Saturday and Sunday are by appointment only). Due to a health concern that required me to go to urgent care on Saturday morning, I called Sharon on Friday and she was able to work out a late morning and noon appointment for my mother and I on Saturday. I thanked her and she even said 'don't worry if you run behind a few minutes because of your appointment- I'll wait for you'. Wow! I was already impressed becase I have at times received less than quality service if the vendor knows that I am using a Groupon or similar discount. I do want to make a note that her office was slightly difficult to find - it is within the chiropracter's office (she does mention that on her website but I hadn't seen it). We asked around and found it easily enough. The massage was calm and relaxing. I felt like I was not only treating myself, but investing in my health. A couple areas were slightly painful, but I didn't say anything (even though she had asked me to let her know if anything was uncomfortable- I figured it was good for me). She picked up on the areas that I was experiencing discomfort and asked me if it was tender. Yes, Sharon- you can be a little more gentle there. :) Oh, and the privacy thing- I was SO IMPRESSED that Sharon gave me a full body massage and I didn't feel like my privacy was comprimised. That was a big deal for me. I made sure I gave her a good tip and if finances allow, I will make a point to see her next time I am in Santa Barbara. PS: I was in HEAVEN when she massaged my head and face. I would go back for that alone. I highly recommend that if you get frequent migraines. Or if you just want to feel awesome. read more

Sharon totally took care of my eyelashes!! I had a vacay to Hawaii and wanted to get some cute eyelash extensions but wasn't sure where to go, and so I booked an appointment and went to Sharon. She made booking so easy, she texted back super quickly to set up my time and answered all of my questions right away. The appointment was set out for 2 weeks in advance but that was no issue for me. When my appointment did come, she was so welcoming and helped me get as comfortable as possible. The application was painless. No "sticky" eyelashes were poking my eyes. The adhesive wasn't burning. The extensions enhanced my eye shape and weren't heavy looking at all. She knew what she was doing! After everything, we talked about aftercare and she even offered to touch up a bit before my trip. I didn't need any touch ups since they were so full and weren't falling off. I have now been in Hawaii with them for a whole week, and with her advice I've had really good lash retention and still have a great eye look. Can't wait for my fill when I get back.
