All the inns on the street have the same issue. We wound up in a alley alley nearby. No parking on streets with double yellow lines on edge. Nor in front of any gates. Or any loading zones at night. Our room was very nice and comfortable, in the old converted stables. Overall, the food was great, the only two disappointments being no fried bread at breakfast, which we were told they had some time ago stopped serving, a small but definite negative, and the burger was just ok, a bit dry and bland. They had excellent cask ales, including a local one. Service was very good but mixed, one person very friendly and helpful, another being a bit cold and curt. It retains some nice old character but has lost some as well. The conservatory-like addition in the back, though nice, does somewhat clash with the old parts and our room was comfortable but a bit bland. Apparently, it is linked to the local and very colourful and controversial Mitford family, who lived in the area. The parents and some of the several sisters were ardent fascists and Nazi sympathisers in WWII, others had different views. Apparently, one owned the place. This is very nice and I would both stay and eat here again based on our experience, but it was not as good as other places we experienced. If it had been just a ltitle better on the points mentioned, I'd probably give it a 5, but as it was, it's closer to a 4.

No starters ordered, I opted for the twice baked walnut and goats cheese soufflé. It was delicious. It came with asparagus, spinach, leek and vine tomatoes. Everyone else really enjoyed their mains, which was a mix of roasts, duck salad and fish cakes. Sticky toffee pudding was excellent from all accounts. And the Espresso Martini I ordered for dessert was very nice. We all had a taste from the cheese board and I thought the cheeses supplied were excellent. While the building has probably been around for a while, the interior has been modernised to be bright and comfortable. The facilities were nice too. The staff were attentive, but yet gave us lots of space and were not intrusive at all. The outdoor seating was very pleasant in the hot sun that finally decided to return for an Indian summer. We spent a post dinner pint of cider here watching the long boats and ducks tootle by on the River Avon. The Boathouse Pub is definitely recommended.
