We hired Masionicare at Home to look after my mother during her hospice care time at home. After nine weeks, I can only say their service has declined markedly since we hired them in 2016 to look after our father in similar circumstances. Our biggest gripes are the awful scheduling services, and the very gruff, uncaring women who answer their phones. 90% of my phone calls to the central number leave me feeling the person answering the phone resents being bothered with my questions. Although the individual aides and nurses, have been good, our problem is the complete lack of any consistency in scheduling. Numerous times during these 2+ months, aide visits have been changed on the day of arrival minute. We never receive any advance information about nursing visits except for the planned days of visits. No expected windows of time for their visits are ever offered. We have complained about this for six weeks in a row, and the receptionists who answered the phones simply could not care less. The case manager nurse who took over for my mom several weeks ago has never been back. And with all the nurses, it is extremely burdensome when they never tell us an expected time of arrival, so we have to wait throughout the day wondering whether they will come at 9:00 am or 2:00 pm. It makes it impossible to leave home on these days to run errands, take a care-taking break, or anything. It is an unneeded stress placed on family that could be solved with simple professionalism of informing us of a time window for arrival. I agree with a few other reviewers here that while the care itself is not bad, the awful lack of communication is a problem that Masonicare neither cares about nor seems interested in solving. They seem clueless on what family caretakers are going through. read more

I was referred for PT/OT upon my discharge from the hospital. Six weeks later, they still have not set up my home care. I have called countless times and for the most part I never even get a return call. I have had home care many times and have never experienced anything like this with any home care company. This is inexcusable, unacceptable,and frankly UNSAFE. read more

Everything about our experience with Masonicare was horrific. "MasonicErr" is more like it. How many times do I have to hear "Oh, I'm sorry. It's not supposed to be like this," before I know that they're just lying, and that sloppy, disorganized and uncaring is exactly how it's supposed to be. When they finally assigned a nurse to my mom, she visited on a Friday and assured us that she would be responsive and available whenever we called. When I called on Monday, I was told she was on vacation for the week. And no one knew who my mother was, or who was covering for the awol nurse. Reprehensible. There is better hospice care available. The staff here seem fine BUT the admins have a communication problem. My mother was sent to the hospital in the middle of the night when the aide was not on duty. When discharging from the hospital they let her return knowing she had an aide. What NOBODY told me was that Masonicare at Home pulls the aid when the primary client goes to the hospital. When my mom returned to her assisted living place they would not let her return because there was no aide. I was shocked!! I had no idea the aid would get pulled. What's worse is that now they won't send an aide for the rest of the day!!! The manager argued with me and claimed they were trying to save me money. Yeah, right. So they took away mom's health care aid without any notice and then refused to send a health care aide when released from the hospital a few hours later. Also, they apparently made no plan to have my mom return to her facility. When I pointed out that their communication was the issue, they OFFERED TO CANCEL OUR SERVICE! Whomever is in charge over there needs to get some customer service skill training going. And yes, I am gonna take the managers offer to take our very expensive business elsewhere. read more

I am planning on reporting this place to the Connecticut Board of Public Health and the BBB. I am also wondering if a class-action lawsuit is in order as so many people seem to be reporting the same kind of terrible experiences with this in home hospice (no) care in Connecticut. RNs who never communicate about their visits and never show; RNs who show up unkempt, sweating, and confused; crucial end-of-life pain medication that is supposedly on order that never arrives; no guidance; no instructions -- other than call a 24-hour call number THAT RINGS AND RINGS WITH NO ANSWER -- This place does not care about people at the end of life and leaves complicated medication and end of life management to already stressed family members. The only thing holding this fraudulent operation together is the good graces of the under-paid home health aides who are lovely but have limited ability to help at the end. Do not leave your loved ones in the care of this organization. read more

As a family we have had the wonderful pleasure of having Masonicare Home Care for my husband who suffered a severe stroke approximately 2 years ago. We have a terrific Home Health Aid three times a week for an hour. We treasure her. She is so gentle and caring with my husband at all times! Her work ethics are impeccable! She has also helped me find ways to make my new responsibilities with my husband a little easier. The Home Care Nurse that visits us and examines my husband is a true professional with the Best "bed side manner" I've ever seen. She always seems to get him to relax and engage her in a conversation about sports and his beloved teams! Before he knows it she has examined him and can make a through assessment of his health. She is always on top of Any change in his medical status with any further recommendations for treatment or tests. As his wife and now caregiver I'm much more at ease knowing she's his nurse! The Physical Therapy Dept has also been terrific to find just the right therapist to help my husband reach each goal and to continue to set new ones!! The Speech Therapist deserves a huge thank you for the extraordinary advancements she has made with my husband! When she first began working with him he was almost completely non-verbal. With her expertise, patience, and dedication he now can and does have wonderful conversations with family and friends!! Each week she somehow gets him a little closer to his "old self" as he puts it. Thank-you to all! In addition to the home staff I'd also like to say thank you to the Scheduling Staff they always call me each week to let me know the days and times the aide will be at our house to help. I would like to tell all of Masonicare Thank you for your excellent service. You all have made a very difficult time more bearable with your kindness and dedicated staff! read more

They promised all kinds of services but basically sent out minimum wage baby sitters which I kicked out. Then they harassed me for years trying to get me into their scams. Total scum. read more

If I could give zero stars, I would. My father left rehab and it took almost a week for Masonicare to set up the first visit with a nurse. I was told that they never received his discharge papers from the skilled nursing facility he was in which wasn't true because I saw the fax that the facility sent to Masonicare on the day he was discharged. After the first visit with a nurse (8 days after discharge) I was told that I could expect a call from an OT and a PT to set up physical therapy visits as well as a home health aide to come and help him shower. It's now been 11 days since my father came home and I received a call today saying they would not be able to provide OT, PT, and aide services. I was told that their OT was on maternity leave and their PT was on vacation. Unfortunately, an aide can't come to the home until he's been evaluated by a PT. I was told I should call my father's primary care physician and find another company to provide home health care services. This company has wasted almost two weeks of care my father required and put him in a dangerous position. They also now have dumped the responsibility on me to try and find another company to provide home services. This has been an awful experience. read more

Wouldn't recommend for hospice care when the patient is in their final days and hours unless you want to be left with a bag of meds and a 24 hour phone number where the woman on call won't transfer you to your nurse and hangs up on you. We have had lovely interaction with weekly check ins, up until the past three days. We didn't sign up to be abandoned during the hardest time of our life. read more

Frustrating experience. They came well recommended, and did sound professional on the phone. Many of the other agencies did not. But that is where the positives end. The aide was unprofessional and bossy. She rearranged the kitchen to her liking, not that of the wheelchair bound resident. She recommended her family members to provide other services who were not licensed. We are better off not having them provide services. read more

With the exception of a two employees: a nursing aide named Tammy and a social worker named Rachel, who are both stellar human beings, Masonicare as a whole is an abominable place! Willful neglect of patients is the way they do business here. My father was at Masonicare for rehabilitation for muscle weakness. In the two weeks he was at Masonicare, my father was allowed to fall onto the floor FIVE times! He fell when the toileting aide was too busy watching the television, and he fell while in the immediate supervision of the physical therapist! My dad went to Masonicare with very well controlled CHF ( congestive heart failure) through a strict low-sodium diet. Masonicare willfully neglected his dietary requirements and fed him sodium saturated foods like BLT sandwiches and Sloppy Joes. Even your average diner waitress could tell you these foods are killers to CHF patients. Sure enough, Masonicare managed to take my dad's well-controlled heart condition and within two weeks, my father had to be rushed to Hartford Hospital in full-on CHF crisis. Dad was literally drowning in the fluid collected in his body. And now, his kidneys were at the brink of failing, too. The ER doctor at Hartford Hospital told us dad's CHF blood markers were the highest they've ever been in my dad's life, this after Masonicare neglected his dietary requirements. While Dad was in the ER, he told the doctors about his five falls onto the hard floors at Masonicare. A lumbar CAT scan was ordered and sure enough, Dad now has an L3 spinal fracture! Unbelievable!!!! I will forever tell anyone who will listen, if you want your loved one to die a fast, needless, and undignified death, send then to Masonicare! Luckily we got my father out of that horrid place fast! He's now in an excellent rehab place in Newington where all his medical needs are appropriately and skillfully administered. As far as the staff at Masonicare, a nurse named Elaine told me that she consuls "her patients" about how they must embrace their inevitable next step: meaning a move to a full nursing care ward or their eventual death. REALLY????? Omg, Elaine is barely a competent floor nurse yet she admits to practicing psychology on "her patients"! When I asked her what her qualifications were to do this, her answer was "go ahead and report me!". This nightmare called Masonicare was getting worse and worse! There's a psychiatrist there named Dr. Aronson, who couldn't identify profound anxiety if it jumped up and bit his nose off! My father sat everyday at Masonicare, left in a wheelchair, wringing his hands from anxiety all... day... long!!. Anyone would feel intense anxiety if the staff let you fall FIVE times and the roommate you've been paired with is a catatonic zombie with locked-in syndrome. That shrink doctor, Aronson, refused to give my father anything to ease his terrible anxiety and nightly bad dreams. Aronson said he doesn't believe in medicating people who experience "situational anxiety". Omg, doc, how else does someone get anxiety but from experiencing very difficult situations! D'uh! Masonicare quite possibly had a heyday of quality care with a decent facility, perhaps when Eisenhauer was in office, but good Lord, this place is a filthy, rundown, take-all-the-Medicare-money it can, poorly staffed, rude, dismal, shit hole. When Stephen King writes a convalescent home horror novel, this place will be featured on the cover! Run away fast and never look back at Masonicare! read more

Used Masonicare Hospice after MIL was released from nursing home after having Covid. Only decent person was the spiritual advisor. Under hospice, certain items such as diapers and toiletries were supposed to be covered. When asked for these items, we were told they weren't covered. So for six months we paid out of pocket for these items. The nurses aide refused to bathe her nor to check in with the facility nurse after each visit. They refused to proved a mechanized bed and did not pay for a Hoyer lift until family demanded they pay for it. Asked to speak with Director but she refused to call us. I can not believe that the board has allowed our beloved Masonic home turn into the place it is now. I am heart broken and disappointed.

Our experience has only been positive with Masonicare. We have been using the Masonicare aides for at least two years now as my mother suffered a stroke about three years ago. We had a different agency but there were so many different caregivers that would come in and out it became difficult to manage. Although in both situations all of the home healthcare workers that have come have been fantastic, Masonicare has made it easy to I have one person stay and take care of my mother. With Masonicare we have had two live in caregivers and both have been equally fantastic. They were marvelous and caring women from Ghana who had nursing experiences in their own country so were more professional than we expected. Because of these wonderful caregivers our experience with Masonicare has only been positive. read more

The rooms are too small for two people and the place is seriously outdated. It could use a total overhaul with bigger rooms and nice furniture. But that being said, my mother has been at Masonciare for going on ten years. She is very happy, well adjusted, and loves the place. 99% of the staff is extremely helpful with any concerns. So if my mom is happy, then I am happy. In the end, kindness really matters. read more
