KUDOS to Mary & Donna. great job, women! with all this said, obviously, i am very happy my MIL is living there now. i think the oldest resident is 104. i did meet 2 that are 103. WOW!!! i'd like to thank everyone at Mulberry Gardens for the wonderful job they do. my mind is at ease knowing my MIL that i love with all my heart, is being well taken care of. if you are looking for a place for your loved one, check this one for sure. you'll be glad you did & you'll see why i feel the way i do. :) have a wonderful day! be well & be safe.

So over $300k to get in, and another $3k per month rent, and your family will never see a dime out of it. My Mother was there for about 8 years, and every year was worse. The maintenance of the facility is OK, but it took them months to do simple hall painting. Do they make improvements or replace things while you're there- nope Mom had to go to the rehab facility, and was very despondent that all they did was put her in a wheelchair and left her in the hall. Mom hardly ever complained, but she was in tears begging me to get her out of that place. I managed to get her back to her apartment, and got live-in care (NOT through the absurdly expensive Masonicare people!), and then I get a call from State of CT, with Masonicare accusing me of Elder Abuse, because I took her out of a place that did NOTHING for her except suck up massive sums of money. It's good for them that I live 1200 miles away or we would have had a VERY direct conversation. Thankfully I found a great live-in for Mom who took fantastic care of her for over a year until the Parkinsons took her. Even when the live-in Rose left, she said she'd never care for anyone in there again -"they're nasty and all the want is $". Yes, I agree. I sent a note to their CEO in June 2020 mentioning some of these things and that they really needed to update things such as being able to get electronic billing and paying (it is the 21st century), and never got any form of response. There are other places for senior living. If this place is really on your consideration list, think long and hard about it, since if they can't make a dollar on it, they're not really interested. While they IMMEDIATELY bill for everything they can think of, after Mom passed, they submitted some bogus bills, and I told them they could pound sand. They eventually admitted that, OK, costs after she died were probably BS. THEN, they owed me some $ back (rent paid in advance, and it took FOUR MONTHS to get it, as they had some nonsense about waiting for costs to come in. When it was my turn to pay, the costs came in within day, but when they owe me money back- MONTHS! Anyway, I have very little good to say about this place. Very little. There's much better I'm sure.

I truly expected a better customer service experience, but am consistently disappointed. The staff…read moreare out of control and the management has not addressed the antics. They park in the spots near the building when this is a place for elderly! They should park farthest away. So many times I hear curse words from the kitchen staff and cooks, this is unpleasant and not what I would expect for the money!

After…read morenine weeks, I can only say their service has declined markedly since we hired them in 2016 to look after our father in similar circumstances. Our biggest gripes are the awful scheduling services, and the very gruff, uncaring women who answer their phones. 90% of my phone calls to the central number leave me feeling the person answering the phone resents being bothered with my questions. Although the individual aides and nurses, have been good, our problem is the complete lack of any consistency in scheduling. Numerous times during these 2+ months, aide visits have been changed on the day of arrival minute. We never receive any advance information about nursing visits except for the planned days of visits. No expected windows of time for their visits are ever offered. We have complained about this for six weeks in a row, and the receptionists who answered the phones simply could not care less. The case manager nurse who took over for my mom several weeks ago has never been back. And with all the nurses, it is extremely burdensome when they never tell us an expected time of arrival, so we have to wait throughout the day wondering whether they will come at 9:00 am or 2:00 pm. It makes it impossible to leave home on these days to run errands, take a care-taking break, or anything. It is an unneeded stress placed on family that could be solved with simple professionalism of informing us of a time window for arrival. I agree with a few other reviewers here that while the care itself is not bad, the awful lack of communication is a problem that Masonicare neither cares about nor seems interested in solving. They seem clueless on what family caretakers are going through.

They struggled with his level of dementia and his medical issues. There seemed to be enough staff, but he needed more assistance than they were prepared to give. I noticed that few, if any, of their activities were geared to older men with hearing impairment. You should be aware that residents requiring more than a Band-Aid are sent to the emergency room. If the resident is diabetic, they won't cut their fingernails and have no suggestions for how that can be done. It's a lovely place. The staff is friendly. It might not have been the right place for my Dad, but sit ems to be fine for many of the other residents.

You would think with the very expensive monthly fee they would pay better attention to their patients. My mother fell at their facility. She was confined to a wheel chair and needed assistance for bathing, toiletry etc. They left her alone in her wheelchair and she fell. She was found by another patients family member not even the aids. They blamed the fall on the UTI which they were not treating her for. Needless to say that I started looking for another facility immediately and found one I loved in Hamden for 1/2 the ;price and double the medical care. When I advised the Bill the Director at Village at Kensington that my mother was leaving and why, he did not even know that she had fallen. He told me at that time not to pay for the November bill and that he woild apply her deposit of $4500 to her balance. I thought that we would either receive a small credit or a zero balance. The other day I received a bill for $17,000. Being executor of her estate I thought for sure this was a mistake, as most of their bills are. But the bill was not mistake. I was told that because we did not give 30 days notice we would be billed for November and December. My mother left The Village on 11-6-17. On the morning we left, they lost her dentures. We looked everywhere. I would call the facility every 2 days or so to see if anyone found them. Finally after getting no answer, I decided to pay them a visit. I did fine dentures but they were not hers. I guess they have a habit of losing dentures. Not to mention the clothes wat were lost or switched with other patients. Bottom line. My mother left on 11-6-17. Because she could not chew her food she lost a lot of weight and had to be put on ensure. She was put into hospice on 12-6-17 and she died on 12-25-17. I am not saying that the Village of Kensington is a fault for her death but they certainly did not help. They refuse to work with me with the balance so I have had to hire a civil lawyer to take the case. DO NOT SEND USE THIS FACILITY

We all reported that her phone was not working due to her confusion. I'm paying bills and living independently. Allegedly reports were filed to protect the client. Unfortunately, this deemed as untrue. I begged and pleaded with many of the managers of this agency to come check on this client that she needs help. She's not capable of taking care of herself at all not one time did somebody pop over to assist with investigating all of our accusations. Once I started reporting an emails, the abuse, the manipulation the agency turned on me and fired me! I used my own money to buy this lady groceries and I was reprimanded because this poor elderly lady had no money to feed herself. This agency only cares about getting money from the state not the care that is given to the client. It is unfortunate that Agency is like this stay open. The one complaint I got from many of the clients was at this agency continuously send individuals that don't speak any English whatsoever. Unfortunately, that is not the kind of Care anyone needs for their loved one. I wouldn't allow this Agency to watch a goldfish. I have no confidence that they will stand by you and protect your love one in any way shape or form. When deciding I'm picking the right agency make sure you look at all the reviews. I am not a bitter, Ex employee, even though I was terminated for blowing the whistle on them. I love what I do. My clients absolutely adore me. The contract was all about getting paid and nothing about what was being paid for. The person they sent could not boil water, had no transportation of her own and had an accent so thick that speech was unintelligible. She broke several items around the house through her clumsiness and did not keep us apprised of the need for additional household supplies until they were used up (wasted). Recently, there was a heated exchange where the worker yelled at the patient and allegedly called the patient names. It bordered on elder abuse The agency committed no follow up, no review, and no contact as long as they got their money. We understand that caring for a person in her mid-90's is not easy, but you couldn't define the services received as 'care'. FAIL.
