I was charged $93 for a voicemail that was left at her business by another person in regards to my case. The only time I heard from her or her staff was when she wanted more money. Mr. Godwin was my son's criminal defense attorney, yet he repeatedly inserted himself into family‑law matters far outside his scope of practice and did so in a hostile, threatening, and legally inaccurate manner. In an email Mr. Godwin stated: "This current [Criminal Disposition] order 100% does override the family court order. This court found you an unsuitable place for him to live or make the right decisions." This statement is false, misleading, and not supported by any language in the criminal disposition order. The criminal court's temporary placement of my son with his grandparents does NOT modify my conservatorship rights, nor does it declare me an unfit parent. Only a family‑court judge can modify conservatorship or restrict parental rights, and no such order exists. Despite being a criminal‑defense attorney with no authority in my family case, Mr. Godwin escalated the situation by threatening: "I will now file into the family case representing the grandparents... I will seek a protective order first thing in the morning." Threatening to file a protective order against a parent, without legal basis, without jurisdiction, and simply because he disagreed with me is wildly inappropriate and unprofessional. It is also a conflict of interest: He was my son's criminal attorney, yet he threatened legal action against a child's parent. To make matters worse, Mr. Godwin claimed he would be "heading to the courthouse" to present the protective order to a judge. He never showed up. The threat was empty, retaliatory, and clearly intended to intimidate rather than serve any legitimate legal purpose. His conduct demonstrates: - A lack of understanding of Texas family law - False statements about court orders - Improper threats of legal action - Unprofessional hostility toward a parent - A willingness to misrepresent facts to pressure or intimidate I strongly advise any potential client to think twice before hiring Mr. Godwin. An attorney should be knowledgeable, ethical, and professional, not someone who issues baseless threats, misstates the law, and steps far outside his practice area to bully a parent exercising their rights.
