I contacted Mason & Carter a month ago to get a quote on one of my investment properties in Baltimore. I was working with Dan Pufnock. I submitted all requested information for agent to generate a quote, and I never received the quote. I attempted to follow up with Dan several times via phone and email and he has not responded. Communication is very important when doing business. If the agent was not able to find coverage for the property, the professional thing to do is to communicate that to the customer. Customer service and follow-up is not good which is why I do not recommend this company. read more

Whatever you do, DO NOT trust the agent Rich Taylor who works for Mason & Carter. I asked him to lower my premium this year and not only was he not able to help out, he more than doubled my premium without even notifying me. He then went on to blame SafeCo for increasing their rates because he thinks they're going out of business! Why in the world would you keep your client with an insurance company who you think is going out of business ?!!! This guy is a real scum bag. Beware. read more

Horrible experience with these guys. For 15 years they were of no help when I had my roof leak, was burglarized, and had a handful of other issues. Finally when I left them, I retroactively filed a claim. Avoid them like they're going to cost you $20,000 every decade. Because they will. Tip: To get the lowest price with an insurer, get your credit up and if more than one person could buy the insurance for the house/car whatever, have the person with the best credit do it. There. For years I got all my insurance from the direct providers, usually GEICO. Then I married an expert in the insurance industry, and she told me about how a good agency can really make a difference. She was right... and Mason & Carter has been exemplary. I ran into some issues with the provider themselves, which was totally not M&C's fault. But they worked with me, addressed the issues, and made sure my coverage didn't lapse. I could not be happier with the service, and the price is very good. I went ahead and added some other insurance besides my auto policy, and they were very helpful in guiding me to the right policy. I have been with Read Carter since 1999 and I have nothing but excellent things to say. At first we just had our home insured but then over the years they have insured our Autos / Instruments / renters insurance. They are always looking out for the best rates and advise us when to change companies. My most recent experience came just last week when out of the blue the State of Maryland contacted me to advise my vehicle was uninsured for 12 days back in 2008. Read contacted the state of Maryland and submitted a form to indicate that I was in fact insured and waived the $175.50 Had I not contacted him I would have paid the fee but decided.
