That's why I was left so disgusted by my experience when I attended services this past summer. Congregants are only seen as a money source and if one is on a fixed income or poor, then IHC has no interest in including them. The current clergy and temple leadership are some of the most disingenuous people I've ever encountered. They say all the right things, reading from a carefully prepared script, but they don't mean a word of it. No one follows through at all. The "welcome" only extends to those with children to enroll in the ECC and deep pockets to donate financially. The security guard at the front door was the only genuinely nice people I met during my visits - and he's not even Jewish! Oh, and nepotism is alive and well at IHC! It's bad enough that the senior rabbi has toxic narcissistic tendencies, but his non-clergy wife inserts herself into services and various support groups, even though there are members of the congregation who could fill these roles. The pair even scheme to turn official trips, such as taking teens to NYC(?) into family vacations on the synagogue's dime. Your membership dues at work! Honestly, if this happened at any other synagogue or in ANY other organization, there would be legal repercussions. After speaking with people during post-Shabbat Oneg, I learned many people shared my discomfort but they're too afraid of angering the mighty RBK to speak up. My parents and grandparents always talked so highly of IHC. I'm sad to see what it's become and hope there is a clergy/staff turnover soon. I'd love to see it become the welcoming beacon of Reform Judaism I heard about growing up.

Both of my sons have attended their daycare and the staff and facility is top-notch. We had tried another daycare because IHC changed their pick up times after covid to be earlier and we could no longer get there in time. The daycare we switched to, St. Nicholas, had very high turnover in staff and their facility was often dirty. Im so glad to have our youngest back at IHC!

Id say it's the perfect size, not a mission church size, but certainly not massive cathedral size. It's just right! I loved the wooden architecture, I'm not sure if it's original but I loved looking at it, I found myself looking up a lot during mass. The church also has a beautiful fresco of Mary and saint Bernadette. I enjoyed the priest as well, I thought he was a great speaker, he kept it relevant and didn't drag things out which I think some priests have a habit of doing, I might even go back and check out a regular mass! Lots of seating options, kneelers have padding which is always a plus! (You get this if you are catholic) ps they have gluten free communion!

The Center is located just off Post on 10th Street in a fairly average-sized suburban home converted for the purpose. The house is very small and that makes for an almost claustrophobic feel as you acclimate to being there. Service there felt more like meeting in someone's living room than a specific congregational space. I've attended only a couple of services here. Everyone was very warm and inviting and the conversations tend to be pretty heady and interesting. The practice seems solid and should be fairly familiar to anyone experienced with meditation. This group seems less interested in catering to newcomers to Buddhism, in my experience, but that might just be my perception. I should clarify that I'm not a newcomer in the least, so maybe they were just better at not treating me like I was. If you're interested in exploring Buddhism and want a very authentic Tibetan experience, this might be the Center for you.

Yes, it it was in portion of a house, instead of a grand temple, but I felt that almost added to the intimacy and focus of mindfulness. The monk who lead the teaching was incredibly alert and thoughtful in intention and the translator did an excellent job translating to English. As he was teaching, he was looking at and taking consideration of every individual in the room. The teaching was deep and incredibly insightful. I agree that this session would be tricky for a newbie and I probably would have been lost had I not read several books about Buddhism in the past. But, from what I understand they have implemented a "Intro" series on another day that would help someone get up to speed.

I had the fortunate opportunity of being invited to this 'inner city' Church a few months ago by a…read moredear friend of many years. I must say upon browsing the local worship houses on YELP! I was really shocked that no one has taken the time to write a review on this one. I found The Redeemer Presbyterian Church to be one of the most, if not THE MOST, inspiring church I've even been inside of. To begin with, let me say that the space this Cathedral occupies is nothing short of Regal Elegance, although an 'inner city' vibe can be felt from the moment you walk through it's overstated antiquated heavy wooden doors, with welcoming pots of piping hot coffee or water waiting in the entrance lobby , ( tea bags are provided for non coffee drinkers) and all the extras, as you move to the sanctuary, you can hear that the live music the band is playing is decidedly contemporary gospel, and the message from the pastor, a thirty something gentleman, who right away commands your attention with his engaging delivery, not directly from scripture, although scripture is referred to, his is more of a modern day message, call it a 'revised' version, creatively shaped into fitting directly into your own life. The message to consider is clearly that of self reflection and acceptance of others, as opposed to the normal and expected mission of repentance or damnation and judgment of others, which, in my experience of over 35 years in and out if a variety of 'organized religious affiliations', and being raised from a Southern Baptist standpoint has taken me, this church actually appears to be living 'in the moment ' and content with the message they are sending. So Am I. I think it's working for them and hope they keep doing what they're doing. This church comes across as sincere, genuine, working hard and hard working, striking me as honest, without being hung up on old stagnant 'hellfire and brimstone' scare tactics. Redeemer is a breath of fresh air with motivational purpose sprinkled with a testimony here and there that will move you to tears. There is a wide variety of age, race, and social class present and to be honest I have never been anyplace where I have seen so many men holding and tending to infants! The congregation is upbeat, friendly, and INVOLVED, not only in the workings of the church and those who occupy it's services but in the 'inner workings' of the city, particularly the notably improving but still impoverished Fountain Square District. However, that is not to say this church is not doing what is needed to get their message out. There seem to be more than a few 'events' spattering our city to take part in if someone were to want to join in and get to work. I fell in love with this Grand Old Church and even an affinity with the people in it. There is also a complete Art Gallery on it's lower level that is just begging to be pondered over featuring gorgeous works by local talent. If you want Bible Study there seems to be quite a few that reach out to certain age, social or other academic arena that compels the word of God as well as an online magazine with Daily Bible verses for contemplation and memorization to impress your friends with at Bible Study. As if all this weren't enough there is an extraordinary 'children's church' that my 8 year old granddaughter just can't wait to go back to participate in. All in All I feel this is a very unique and worthwhile place to worship with a prominent focus on present day life and how Gods love and only Gods love can heal our broken spirits and tattered souls and transcend us to be worthy in his name, ever acknowledging the sinner in us all as being the most important aspect, after Gods love, as we are in our mortal state, fully fallible. Yet reinforcing that often times we are at our worst when we need salvation the most. So, all that being said, I am still awe stricken by the palatial beauty of this place. Indeed The Redeemer is a sight to behold. It is the kind of place that to me, a church SHOULD be, in every way.. In fact, it brings to mind something my mother would always say when I would ask her for guidance in the darker times of my own life..
