This place is pricier for the menu of the day, that normally consist in appetizer, main course, desert, wine and water (plus in most cases bread with tomato). However, for 20 euros per person we had a total feast, plus it was a Thursday so we paid a little bit more and got the seafood paella (Thursdays is usually paella day for them and at other restaurants as well). Simply amazing the amount of food and the quality of all we got. Happy me I got a to-go box (even if I had to deal with the embarrassment of my brother, not used to take leftovers home, as it is still not well considered in Spain). Everything we ate was excellent, including an awesome red wine. The atmosphere is super chic, you feel like you are more in an Art Deco set of a movie than in a Mediterranean-Catalan style restaurant. Not very many patrons at 6:30 PM so we were immediately seated, table for two. Of course a Sangria for me and a beer for my travel buddy! Cheers. The beer had a lemon citrusy flavor and my Sangria was flavorful, both were very good. We ordered Hummus and Calamari, excellent choices, plenty to share and both were delicious. Highly recommend giving this restaurant a try. Remember service is slower than in the U.S. and our waitperson was the only one handling both inside and outside (only 3 or 4 tables outside).

Our service was great, friendly, and helpful to a bunch of Americans that didn't speak the language. After so many pitchers and amazing food later, we were treated to their tiramisu by a local that had to think we needed it and boy was he right! We were in Spain during May-June of this year and witnessed various businesses that were no more or maybe still hanging on my a thread. Our recent experience at La Yaya Amelia seemed to suggest the latter. La Yaya Amelia was recommended by our Hotel (1882) and was an easy couple block walk. We made a reservation, but as it turned out we were the only customers during our time there. This seems more like a locals place and it's corner neighborhood location would be hard to attract tourists, unless it were some hot foodie destination. On a side note, the owner's cute little dog charmed my wife, the shelter volunteer. At the beginning, the dog was wandering around and Gayle wasn't sure if he/she had a person. I looked up and told her that we can't the dog back with us to the USA. Her answer (and this wasn't her first dog siting in Spain) was that she'd already done the research and she agreed that it would be almost impossible to do so. But she still stayed on the case until she confirmed that it was indeed the owner's dog. La Yaya Amelia may not be the Catalan version of the French Laundry, but it was a damn fine place to eat. We both ordered off the "specials" list, me choosing steak and Gayle opting for fish. Add wine, bread, homemade dessert, and expresso, we left full and happy. Our service was great, yet the guy running the place seemed a little worn out and sad, as we were the business so far in the evening.
