Zurich's version of a Miami club, if you know what I mean. The music is mostly, if not entirely, techno, but once in a while you get a salsa or merengue, and even dembow infused beat. The atmosphere is out of the world. We partied on a Friday night and the Swiss, along with the many foreigners in attendance, come out to enjoy the night. It was a party for the ages. The oldest nightclub in Zürich! I've been here lots of times on Fridays and Saturdays, and it's always a pretty good crowd with a good mix of music. Last week was the first time I came on a Thursday, and I was surprised to find it packed. Don't people have to work or go to school on Friday?? I only hung out for about an hour because I had promised to join my friend for a little bit after our dept xmas party, but it was still fun to get our groove on... and burn off some of our massive dinner. ;) I've heard some complaints about this place trying to be too posh, but all of my friends love it, and I've felt equally comfortable dancing in a black cocktail dress and also jeans and a tank top. How I happened to chance upon this venue seeing DFA1979 during my travels, is quite the coincidence. But this venue is great! There's an upstairs and there's a downstairs, both have pretty limited space. The downstairs has lots of columns in the middle of the room, while the upstairs may or may not have the stage blocked by overhead lights and projectors. Still, there's not a lot of poor viewing spaces. There's no room for a guard rail, but people were really in the moshing spirit that evening, so it got a little rowdy! (I'm just too old for this shit) I would gladly come back to this venue to see any band I like.. now if only I lived in Zürich...... read more

When it comes to Karaoke, Mascotte hosts the best rock n' roll party in the world. I have been on more than one occasion and, each time I go, the performances, the crowd, & the energy... sort of take over the evening, and it becomes a real wild one. I ain't gonna lie, jack daniel and his amigos pop their heads out to help induce the madness, and the emcee is clearly gonzo and perfect at what he does, but the bottomline is that it's fun, pure and simple. Plus, the view from the fumoir makes it seem like you're floating above the stage in a little nest of hipsters, dope fiends, record executives, models, and wannabe all-of-the-aboves. Indeed, this is as good as live-band Karaoke gets. Domo arigato! read more

just now This experience with the Mascotte security tonight was beyond awful and speechless. Me and my girlfriends decided to come to Mascotte to dance the night away. At the entrance I paid chf 25 and ended up on the dance floor enjoying the music. At one point in the crowded dance floor one girl crossed our path while we were dancing and dropped my drink on the floor. She pushed me and gave me a very aggressive look and walked away. I pushed her back and said it was not cool what she did but she walked away to the prive area. I thought it was quite rude of hers not to apologize but we were having a good time and I let it go. A few minutes later I see her come back with security and pointing at me. A few seconds later security was all over me and they literally grabbed me by the arms, lifted me and pushed me away from the dance floor and aggressively pushed me toward the back door. Two big men literally held me and pushed me to the stairs. In English I asked why were they grabbing me and they pretended not to understand English and kept dragging me outside. When I asked them what happened, and to please give me an explanation of this very aggressive and rude behavior, they both pretended not to speak any English and told just kept dragging me outside. By then I understood there was not reasoning nor talking with them and asked to please have my coat back. At that point the two security guys didn't leave my arms that they were holding very right and just pushed me out. In English then one of them, who clearly understood English, said "give me your coat number" and I did, and while the other guy kept holding me by the arm the second security guy went inside and got my coat. They didn't let me back in and kept looking at me very seriously. Then one of the two big security guys who still has his hands on me said "you punched that girl" to which I said "absolutely not, let me explain" but he wouldn't let go of my arms. They then escorted my friends out with no good reason, paying customers who were enjoying their night, and we all met outside in disbelief. I didn't argue nor put up a fight but said in English "this is frankly ridiculous" and at that point the security guys whom until that point pretended not to speak nor understand a word I said in English said again "you punched her" to which I said "if you look at your cameras inside you would not only realize I didn't punch her but also that she pushed me and dropped my drink out of my hands on the floor". This is an unacceptable behavior for a paying customers who was not at all aggressive and was simply trying to explain the situation. I will most surely spread the word and make sure people know that if ever in Mascotte someone is rude towards you and you respond, you will get kicked out with no merci. Pointless to say, we won't be back in Mascotte after such a ruthelsss treatment. This girl was clearly drunk and the fact that she was believed and no question was asked to me is insane. very famous club cause its the oldest one in Zurich. It is centrally located at Bellevue and there have some different parties like Royal Flush on friday etc. check out this side for more informations: http://www.mascotte.ch/nu/events/event_list/ there are always some people waiting to go inside but in generally the door entrance is fast and the wardrobe too. check the programm, cause every day is different like in the most clubs... good located is also the pizzeria directly at the entrance on the left side. this pizzeria is always crowded and they have a fast service for order and pay. read more
