I have eaten at quite a few Indian restaurants in my time. In Australia (where I am from, where there are some absolutely incredible Indian places), Sweden and oddly enough in Thailand and Laos. I would consider myself quite a fan of Indian food and am actually fairly good at cooking a few key dishes myself. When I am tired and hungry and don't feel like cooking there is nothing I enjoy more than treating myself to some amazing Indian food.
That was not what I experienced tonight. So far my experience of Indian food in Sweden has been fairly average. Some decent restaurants which I tend to go back too and when I feel adventurous I like to try a new place in the hope of finding a new favorite. Sheesh Mahal is hands down the worst food experience I have ever had. I feel insulted that someone would serve me that food and attempt to pass it off as authentic Indian cuisine, not only that... I also paid money for it.
I am not someone who ever writes reviews of things and I typically have a very lenient attitude toward food. But, I feel like I have to comment because I would never want anyone to ever experienced the disappointment I felt tonight. The Rogan Josh was super bland and in no way resembled any Rogan Josh I have ever eaten. A Rogan Josh should be deep red in color with pungent flavors and a wonderful texture. This atrocity was pale yellow, and tasted of cream, sugar and a hint of almond. The lamb (what little there was) was terribly dry. It should be lusciously tender and falling off the bone. Rogan Josh is usually my favorite dish and is my measuring stick when I try a new Indian restaurant. The Chicken Tikka Masala was equally disappointing. It tasted like canned Chinese sweet and sour sauce watered down with cream, accompanied by chicken breast pieces that tasted like composite meat you would find in a chicken nugget, except it too was horrendously dry.
These people have no idea what Indian food is actually supposed to be. It seems like they have taken a list of Indian dishes, written them on a menu and then just guessed what those dishes are supposed to be like. I will never eat there again. With several other Indian restaurants nearby, all of which are better options, I suggest you also look elsewhere. I would award -5 stars if it was an option but this app forces you to award at least 1 star... it is not at all deserved. Not a single redeeming quality. I would have thrown it away immediately after tasting (or even looking at) it, except for the fact that I was starving, had just paid for dinner and assumed (correctly so far) that it wouldn't kill me... perhaps that is the one redeeming feature to earn 1/5 stars. It didn't kill me. read more
