Firstly, I would like to indicate that the Spanish reviewers (and whoever uploaded the photo of…read morethis "locale") have reviewed Rias Baixas 2 in error. The address and location which I am reviewing is for Rias Baixas 1. There are two Rias Baixas restaurants, located about a five minute walk from one another. The primary difference between the two is the days and evenings that the restaurant is closed (Sunday versus Monday) and that Rias Baixas 1 has a more ample outdoor seating area. Both have menus that feature the best of Galician seafood. My dream is to one day find someone who is willing to share the big platter of centolla, percebes, navajas, and zamburinas that the two guys next to me were feasting on. One day... The dining room of Rias Baixas 1 has a very old-fashioned, vintage air to it: there are old Pepsi ads on the walls and extremely old wooden crates that once contained Kas on the shelves. Because it was such a beautiful day, I decided to sit on the terrace and indulge in what drew me into the restaurant in the first place...percebes! (You have truly not lived until you have tried percebes.) For 15 euro, I received a gigantic plate of briny, rich percebes, all of which were of uniform length and thickness. With a glass of Verdejo and fresh Galician bread, I was in heaven. My waiter, who was a very polite, professional, and cordial guy, made sure I had plenty of napkins available because eating percebes can be a little bit messy, especially when they are as juicy as these were. Although I was absolutely stuffed, my waiter offered me filloas with cream, chocolate cake, or cheesecake for dessert. I ended the meal with a cafe solo, which was the perfect and smooth boost I needed after a relaxing and lazy lunch that was bound to leave me wanting a nap. Avoid the tourist trap restaurants in Casco Vello that serve sub-par seafood and visit Rias Baixas for more attentive service, better quality seafood, and better prices.
