The man did them, and as much as I respect how kind they can be to their clients, the work he did was sloppy! It felt rushed, the sizes didn't match, there were dents and lumps of paint all around including under my nails, and the design looked like a child did them. He says he's been in the business for 10 years, but the outcome doesn't look like it, he even had to ask another coworker to do this one design he didn't know how to do. I got home crying because they looked ridiculous. I came there to get a beautiful set and I left very unhappy... I came by the next day informing him that I didn't like my nails, that I wanted them removed and I wanted my money back, but he tried to convince me to get them redone there instead. I didn't want that, but he refused to give me my money back. He went on to explain to me and my mother why he "couldn't do that" all because of rent. Yes I get that prices are high but you have other customers coming in eventually and I'm not one to return so quickly... I can tell his pride got in the way, but hey if he thinks he's so good then he should talk to the people who complained about him to the nail salon across the street. I've been working with nail tech for 5 years now and my stepmother even longer, and none of our work looks like the work he puts out, it's ridiculous. My newest obsession is the dip manicure (powder polish), it's a great way to protect my weak/brittle nails without full-on tips being applied. Only $30 every week and a half/two weeks for flawless nails. Tips: 1) Make an appointment 2) Don't get update if you have to wait, even if you have an appt. They have an endless flow of walk-in's. They fit people in when possible but if the customer then decides to select a more time consuming service once they've started, they have to finish. They don't make you wait on purpose, this is probably one of the most efficient salons around with plenty of nail stations and staff.

Unfortunately, my most recent visit was really disappointing. They didn't have the pink/nude color I picked, nor the alternative I chose, and the end color was completely wrong. The dip manicure took nearly two hours, which made me miss a reservation I had afterward. Even worse, the end result just wasn't up to par. The dip powder was applied in at least five thick layers, making my nails look bulky and unnatural. The edges were sloppy, and there was visible residue left on my skin and around the nail beds for days. What was also crazy, is that the tech kept dumping way too much powder to coat them (using half the jar!!) and blowing it off in my direction. I was completely (I mean COMPLETELY) covered in dip powder that other customers stuck their fingers in by the end of the appointment. Now that I've left Massachusetts, the dip is already chipping and catching on things. It's frustrating because when you're traveling, sometimes you just need your nails to look decent until you get home--but this time, they didn't even meet that basic standard. I really want to continue supporting this business when I'm in town, but I hope management will consider providing additional training for their technicians. Attention to detail truly matters, and with a little more consistency, Sophia's could be a reliable spot. 2 stars because there aren't really any other options in the area.
