Mary's CBD

Good ol' fashioned fast food ticking all the boxes! Soft, squishy, buttery bun... Perfectly pink pattie... My tastebuds were awakened as I took that first bite. So the rumors were true. There is something about Mary. It's just a order & go establishment & we waited a while for our order in the non-existent queue so not a quick fast food joint but if you have time order the meal & wet your appetite with the malty chocolate thick shake... So good however $8 for something that is poured from a lever is steep! The fries are meh but burger without fries is faux pas & if you're gonna be bad you may as well be bad ass!

Well, you walk in to a bit more than a hole in the wall burger joint. Why no I guess? Everyone seems to be raving about the Mary's in Newtown. To start off the sass with the girl taking orders, rolling eyes, one word answers, that usually won't stop me from trying something so we ordered. 1 $10 cheese burger, 1 chicken burger, some fries and a drink. When my burger was ready I grabbed it and tried to give my ticket (with my order number on it) to the girl behind the counter to which she gave me a dirty look and said "uh.. there are bins out side". That was a bit rude but fine, we were all dressed nice and none of us were hipsters so maybe that was why she gave us all the attitude. I'll just comment on my burger, very sloppy, small, and oily (see my pics I uploaded). the patty was raw in the middle and I didn't feel so good afterward. I think for me the whole experience was bad. Maybe if the burger was worth it I would go back but unfortunately that wasn't the case. You can try it if you want but (I hate to say this) your better off going to a regular fast food burger joint. Seriously don't waste your time.

It's finally here! Mary's in Newtown, creators of the best damn burger in Sydney has finally opened doors to their CBD takeaway shop. I repeat, it's a takeaway only shop and quality has not been compromised! You enter from the right door, exit on the left door. There's no fried chicken here except for a fried chicken burger which is essentially the same as a Mary's burger but with a fried chicken patty. You can still get a cheeseburger or veggie burger. Burger's start at $10, and you can get a meal combo (fries and a soda) for $15, or with fries and a shake for $17. For a double you tack on $3, and the same goes for bacon. Free refills too and you can ask for Mary's Sauce for dipping!!! Looks like they're open for breakfast as well at 7am and have a breakfast burger where you can also get a hash brown, will have to try this at some point. Line up early, as the queue was pretty massive.

Mary's of Sydney has gotten everything - a quirky location - a funky menu - awesome illustrations - walls where people can draw their inspirations - cool packaging Only thing it's missing is a winning taste in my opinion. I wasn't in love with the burger I got to say. I was really excited about trying this place for months but just felt it was a burger that could have been served at a regular fast food chain. The burger took about 10 minutes to come out so was expecting a lot and it was just good. The burger I chose was the Mary Burger which was bun with beef patty, onions, lettuce and special Mary's sauce. The sauce was good but just felt if it was handed to me randomly I would just as easily think it came from Macca's or somewhere like that. They offer thick shakes also which sound really good so may have to try them sometime. The menu isn't that cheap considering you have to eat it on the street as the place is just a hole in the wall. Burger was $10 and to make it a meal brought it to $19 I think. Would rather spend that towards a sit down meal some place else. Could be one of those meals that tastes super super amazing after a few drinks .

I finally tried this after all the hype from my brother-in-law and I must say I think I came in with high expectations. It really wasn't a big deal, nothing special I reckon. The lady serving me recommended the Mary's burger saying it was the most popular. And for $15 for a chips and drink combo I think it's a bit rich for a beef patty, tomatoes, lettuce and special sauce. The only plus was the quick service and friendly staff.

Good lord I think I just creamed my pants. Just had the fried chicken burger for the first time. On one hand I'm thinkin how hard can it be to make a chicken burger - on the other hand clearly it is hard because no one got it this right til now. I've been to Mary's in Newtown a couple times and their beef burgers are divine. It is a blessing they opened up a joint in the city. I don't care if Mary's in the CBD is takeaway only- all the more reason to pig out in Hyde Park without judgment. Best burger in Sydney in my opinion!

Nice burgers, very small restaurant/seating area. Most people do takeaway. Interesting grunge style (e.g. graffiti) decor and music

The burger is definitely tasty and delicious. The only fault I find is there is not much mayo sauce ...will be back

I hadn't been to this one before, and I loved it!! I loved the outside area, which really isn't…read moreoutside as it's in like a little shopping centre type place. But the inside as so cute, and more seats than I thought there'd be!! The lady that took our order was so nice too!!! Their chairs aren't that comfy though!! LOL!! But they actually have USB chargers as well, but the lights that are on the end of the bench seating along the wall where the chargers are are weird. It's like being in a library LOL! And it's awkward if you're with someone cause you have the light there between us. We used it as a spot light for the chips we were sharing LOL! But again, I love their burgers, and it didn't disappoint! https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/ShowUserReviews-g255060-d7255842-r646700822-Burger_Project-Sydney_New_South_Wales.html#

Sorry maybe I need to stop comparing, but when you find a good burger and fries stick to it. Too bad no Five Guys in Sydney, they don't know what they missing. I got the Outback Burger which was small and flavorless, my Hubby got the Deluxe Burger it had a big beet on it, I've never seen that before, that was different. He wasn't impressed with his either. We also got Fries(Chips) is what they call them with a Soda. The Burgers are ridiculously overpriced we paid $39 for Burgers that weren't fulfilling. And they surcharge you $1 for using your Credit Card, because they don't accept American Cash, seriously who turns down American Cash?

I waited in line for 90 minutes tonight to get chips and a burger. Not just any kind of burger...a…read morevegetarian burger. I thought to myself, this better be damn good...AND IT WAS!!! I am the furthest from a vegetarian that you could get (I had ribs for lunch today,) so I was pretty skeptical about how a veggie burger would taste...my skepticism was unfounded because I have to admit it was a pretty good burger. I ordered an original Big Burger meal with no mustard and soy bacon. I thought blasphemy, bacon cannot be soy...but I was the blasphemous one for doubting the Lord (of the Fries.) For the fries I had the original fries (chunky + sweet potato available,) ordered Belgian mayo and Vietnamese mayo (spicy chili) on the side. The Belgian mayo was alright, but the Vietnamese mayo was bomb.com. The fries are double cooked and definitely some of the better fries I've had in Sydney...my favourite fries have been from Ogalo's, but Lord of the Fries gives it a run for its money...I will need to do some more taste testing with their other sauces. If you've been to America, I'd say that Lord of the Fries reminds me of a vegetarian Five Guys since the fries are very similar in taste and quality (minus Cajun fries) and they both offer burgers and hot dogs. The nostalgia may have influenced my review a bit...so take that into consideration. If you don't want to wait in a queue for a super long time, go in the arvo or after their official launch on Aug. 29th. Praise the Lord (of the Fries!!!) ***Update: I went again to try their hot dogs and ordered the Chicago dog. If you're a fan of hot dogs and a carnivore I would skip the hot dog and get the burger, it tastes bland and it's a bit "off," most likely missing the meat taste. If you're a vegetarian and really want a hot dog then order to your hearts content.

3 stars until the results come back from the lab identifying the thing I found in my chips…read more(pictured) Why did I ask for Mexican Sauce? I hate sour cream? Just getting started so I'll go again when the place has settled in .....depending on what the lab finds. I really dont need to find a great hot chip place.
