My friends and I did a weekend road trip to Quebec city to see the German holiday markets. This popcorn shop was along one of the streets heading towards the markets. You could smell the popcorn from down the street! Staff are super friendly and welcoming. They immediately greeted us, was open to answering questions, and offered us samples of different flavors! We originally bought a small bag to try. I normally don't like caramel popcorn so I was surprised i liked this mix. To my surprise when when we came back, we learned it wasnt caramel but instead was maple! Nothing more Canadian than that! On our way home the last day in Quebec City,, we stopped to get popcorn again for the road. The staff were so nice and also filled our XL bag with extra so we could eat some before closing it up! Our cruise ship director highly recommend Mary's as the best ever popcorn, which lead me on a mission to find this place. It's a really cute little place. You can see them making their popcorn and you can smell the sweetness of the Carmel as you get near. I sampled almost every flavor! I found the caramel covered popcorn too sweet and hard on my teeth. The cheddar and white cheddar was pretty good. But in the end, I bought a small bag of regular salted popcorn without any flavors. It was just like what you get at a move theater. The SMELL coming out of this shop when you walk by - I walked by 3 times and gave in and went in to buy something. Personally I don't think, unless you happen to get whatever is coming right off the machine, that it's much different from buying popcorn anywhere else. It's not exceptionally more delicious or anything. The original buttered/salted one is a bit on the salty side. I think if you get a small of the style quebec and a small of the original and mix them, that's the perfect combo - a little caramel, a little cheese, and some original. Otherwise it's a little bland. It's a small shop and gets very crowded. You can see some of the popcorn making process as they go by on the conveyor belt. The popcorn is displayed by flavor so you know exactly what you're getting and where it's coming from. Menus are clearly visible with prices in both English and French. Small in French is petite - but they label even the French sizes as 'small, medium, and large'. Don't think I really looked much at the price but I think just over $10 for 2 small bags. The bags are a lovely blue and come with a built-in tie so you can close it later on. They fill the bags to the brim so you'll have to eat some in order to close it though. We ended up buying their Quebec Style popcorn and Chicago style. The Quebec is done with maple syrup. They both tasted delicious. They have a variety of flavors to choose from. You can smell the popcorn all over QC! I'm not a huge fan but my wife loves it, so in we went. She got a traditional caramel corn and loved it. Said it was not too sweet with tender kernels of popcorn. Always ask for the bag OPEN..you get to walk away with a lot more product and can munch as you go. Worth a stop. This was a spur of the moment visit while we were in lower Quebec.... I wish I could pack up this shop and bring it to Maine. The BEST white cheddar popcorn ever and I regret not getting an entire bag of it. I will continue to think about this place and be sad that it's so far away. In Ontario, we've got a Kernels at every mall where you can get your fill of popcorn snacks. But the smells do not even compare to Mary's Popcorn Shop. Each year we visit Quebec City, and we're drawn in by the smell of the fresh popcorn and caramel coating. They literally make it fresh at the door! There's no place to sit, big , no restrooms, another big ; that said the popcorn was about what you would expect from any other popcorn place you might go to.. It wasn't stale for sure, and the hint of cheddar was somewhat understated. I would say if you ever went to a movie theater and purchased one of those small little bottles of seasoning and dumped it all over your popcorn, that might be about the same result as you get here. That said, they you put a lot of timeTLC, and attention into making the popcorn coated with the seasoning and flavoring.... so who knows. read more

Passed by this place while meandering down to the lower part of Old Quebec and got lured in by the free samples. Tried the sample and just had to come back. Service was excellent. Visited here because the smell outside is soo good and it drew me in. I am not a big popcorn fan​ so I wouldn't buy a big barrel but a small bag is good enough. I was able to buy a small bag, at a reasonable rate, and do a mixture of the buttered popcorn, and the cheddar cheese flavors. No lines when I visited. Mmmmm popcorn never smelled so good! While touring around old Quebec, the smell of buttery and sweet popcorn wafted in the air. I couldn't stop thinking about it, so during my free time I dashed over here to get some munchies. This shop is in a touristy area and is extremely tourist-friendly. The staff here speak English exceptionally well and love conversing with customers. They make their popcorn in house and the charm of this place comes from how you can see the machines in action. Samples are also given despite the high congestion of tourists in and out the door. Flavour-wise, they have a limited selection unfortunately. It's not as expansive as what you would get at Kernels. You get your usual buttered, salt and butter, caramel, and two cheese varieties. However, a key selling point is that they make popcorn mixes that contain several flavours in one to represent regional preferences. For example, my bf and I got the Quebecois style popcorn and it was a mixture of caramel popcorn with the two cheese varieties. Salty, cheesey and sweet all in one; we were salivating. My only gripes with this place is that their prices are a little steep, but since it's in a tourist district, that's to be expected. Also, I wish their available flavours contained more unique varieties, like fruit flavours, peanut butter, meat flavours etc. Nonetheless, I did enjoy having this as a detour during my trip to Quebec and felt great munching on the popcorn while watching shows in my hotel. read more
