As a history enthusiast I enjoyed discovering the historic 1934 Port Salerno Colored School which was one of the few schools in Martin County providing education to African-American students during segregation. Today the Salerno Colored School is one of the only single room schoolhouses left on the Treasure Coast. Next to the school is the Costella Williams Learning Center which was named in honor of one of the esteemed teachers at the school.

You have pretty much everything you can think of in this park with a very large parking lot. If your kid loves baseball, there's always baseball games going on and there's also a playground for kids to enjoy. I haven't really explored the whole park on foot, only driven by since the skating area is all the way in the back. It's pretty new. I heard they just filled it in. I would say it's like the size of a normal skating area you would find at an indoor rink. I will come more often, but it is a 20 minute drive and they're doing a lot of construction on the roads that I take together. I wish there was more of these skating areas in different parts of Port St. Lucie.

You can sign up for lessons at the tennis center and the courts service all levels of players, from beginners to professionals. The fields are lighted and the park is open every day from 8 AM to 10 PM. My favorite part of the park was watching the birds. While I was walking around two Sandhill cranes came by. I don't get to see them in South Florida so it is always a treat to find them when I travel north. These two characters were hollering at the top of their lungs. It was the first time I've ever heard the call of a Sandhill Crane. This is a really beautiful and well maintained park providing sports, leisure activities, picnics, and events for the community of Port St Lucie.

My heart will always be fond of Rivergate as I have so many amazing childhood memories, especially…read morethe friendly squirrels, raccoons, and sea otters that were thriving here! Oh, and a big ole alligator that had no qualms about sunbathing and showing off to us onlookers! The brush has no long overgrown where he (or she) used to hang out for us all to see (and some people would feed him too ... but he was still a hunter ... and I would see him go after birds in the water which was cool and sad all at once ... like an episode of National Geographic). Since then things have changed a lot. I haven't seen any raccoons on my last few visits. I was told feral cats and fisherman ruined the population of cute animals that called this place home. They expanded on greatly to the walkway, which would be great, except that they didn't keep it wooden. It's metal and doesn't look great. It reminds me of being back up in NY with its cold appeal and just doesn't match the vibe at all. But the worse part and what is really affecting my rating is how utterly filthy it is! Sure, the area of the parking lot and ramps are nice. But walk the walkway.. there is endless trash everywhere. To the point I was taking pictures of birds down there and yes my pictured are ruined with trash but actual important thing is the poor wildlife walking around in this! Why?? Where are the funds going to clean this park? There is no excuse for this. It is unfair for us to build and use their homes for our leisure and then not treat it with the respect it deserves. Again, I went here almost everyday of my childhood and so did my family. The only "litter" you would see is some fishing string and bobbers from some people who snagged their lines where the water is. This was literally human garbage all over while looking down from the walkway that goes in and out from the parking lot to the water where the extended walkway is. I hope someone will see this and care and have this cleaned up. I reside in NY and have no idea who to contact or what to do but if someone is down there and has a point of contact ... please walk through the trees and look down at all of the trash and see if something can be done. Floridas wildlife deserves better than to live in our filth. On the plus side, it is still a peaceful place, there are two ramps to back your boat in, the parking lot is huge, there is an area next to the ramps to clean your fish and such, with a working hose. There's crab around which is fun for the kids to see (and adults if you're me), and when the sun is going down you can see gators swimming about by watching for their eyes. You can watch for smaller pretty creatures too in the flowers, like Florida lubbers (colorful and gentle grasshopper of a larger size). The best way to see all of these is to be still and quiet and mindful of them (which I find best achieved going alone). It is truly a lovely zen place but please please please clean it up and if you're visiting put your garbage in the appropriate garbage cans or bring it home with you. Don't make the lazy choice to litter. So many creatures die or are critically injured from our litter, you just don't see it happen as you drop it and walk away. It takes no extra effort just to walk your trash to garbage can. Be kind to our planet :)

This park is not in walking distance of any homes or commercial areas, nestled in the woods. This means anyone who goes there most likely has to drive there, for better or worse, and also to be there intentionally instead of just passing by. Thus, the playgrounds, when I drove by on several morning weekdays, were completely empty. Someone out there is looking for an empty, safe playground! Being so far from the main road, there isn't even traffic noise. I'm sure the scene is very different during sports games and practices, but mornings, there is ample spots for hanging out. In visiting the flatwoods, we saw kids having fun using the volleyball courts, which are just across from the flatwoods area.

I'm glad I had a chance to visit this park. Jupiter Community Park is huge. I saw numerous baseball, football, and soccer fields as well as picnic shelters and a playground. The concession stand was not open on Sunday, so I can't say what is available for refreshments. The restrooms were open and were very clean. I saw a park employee circling the park on a golf cart checking the restrooms, fields, and trash cans while the games were being played. Everything was very tidy and clean. The scoreboard at the field where my grandson's baseball game was played was in use during the game. It was fun to see the score and keep up with the game. Two nature trails are available for hiking which would be nice to explore when the weather is cool. This park is a gem for the town of Jupiter.

After holding meetings with the public the city decided to turn the land into a park. Winterlakes Park opened on January 23, 2021 becoming the largest park in Port St. Lucie. Today Winterlakes Park is a well designed park with many popular recreational amenities for residents and visitors of the Winterlakes neighborhood and the Torino area.
