Whether you're a gamer, a movie buff, sci-fi fan, or just love cool merch, you'll find something to geek out over for sure. The staff? Genuinely great. Friendly, welcoming, and super knowledgeable without being pushy. You can tell they love what they do, and it will make your experience that much better. You can actually have a real conversation with these guys! I am so tired of visiting stores that hire snotty, vacant, or indifferent employees. You DO NOT have to worry about that here. Oh, and they've got a geek bar inside the back of the store. Seriously. While we wish they sold more masks and costume accessories, we were pleasantly surprised by how many cool items they did have. The store is very clean and well-organized. Highlights included the giant Gremlins and Pokémon vending machine, though sadly it was out of order, it was still fun to see! We also noticed a neat speakeasy out back that we definitely want to check out next time. Overall, this is a great spot for any nerd, collector, or cosplayer. I've actually seen him put customers books back on the wall that they were willing to buy at the register. Brian is genuinely one of the most unpleasant people I've dealt with in a customer-facing environment. He constantly forces his opinions on customers, becomes confrontational when people disagree with him, and creates unnecessary drama over things that should never be an issue. Even worse, I've personally heard him make weird and inappropriate sexual comments about female customers when he apparently thought nobody was listening. It's disgusting and completely unacceptable in a workplace. Heard him call a star wars comic reader "STAR BABY". And talks about women that walk in to the store as his "Girlfriend" and he genuinely believes it in his mid. Surprise this place hasn't had a lawsuit against it yet, because his co-workers say that he does this all the time with women. He's a liability. I've also witnessed problems involving customers' books, arguments, and Brian throwing coworkers under the bus instead of taking responsibility. From the interactions I've witnessed, the frustration with his behavior clearly isn't limited to customers. A comic shop should be welcoming and fun, not somewhere you have to brace yourself for one employee's attitude, unsolicited opinions, and inappropriate comments. At some point, when the same person is repeatedly at the center of problems, the common denominator becomes obvious. NOOOO idea how they hired this weirdo back. He makes customers uncomfortable all the time. Also he gives free books away to people all the time when he thinks the camera isn't watching. He only rings up the big spending customers to tell his bosses how much he makes, even though other coworkers did all the work. Pathetic man ruining the nerd culture in Kissimmee. I spoke to Gabe at the counter when he rang me up all the opened Funko's or four dollars so I snagged Mr. Oogie boogie. I will be cleaning him up and dusting him off and then I will be bedazzling him. Most of the comics I got besides from the two dollar comic were $.50 apiece and then he also bagged them up and put a paper backs in them as well for me. They sell them for I think $.15 apiece for the bags in the bags; they also own the store next-door, which is called last pack magic it is a trading card game store. If you are ever in the area, Mike's comics and collectibles has a wonderful selection of $.50 comics as well as comics that come out now I highly recommend stopping here. I was excited to stumble upon Writer's Block, a bookstore I've heard about for years, while visiting the Winter Garden Farmer's Market. The windows beckoned me in and I immediately saw a bestseller that had been recommended to me recently, so I was stoked to spend my money locally. I also perused their stickers, pens, and other fun local goodies while wandering. There's a robust kids section in the back, so be sure to keep walking! I appreciated the many hand-written staff recommendations and teasers for books on the shelf, and also the entire section on banned books that described the reason for the banning. Love a store taking a stance for banned books! Overall, I plan to continue supporting independent bookstores instead of the massive, bloated, unethical, late-stage capitalist hellscape that is Amazon. Hope others are tempted to walk in and enjoy the rare little bookshop the way I was when walking around downtown Winter Garden!
