Today, with more clarity, I can see there were several warning signs that I failed to recognize in time because I believed I was dealing with a professional and trustworthy team. At the beginning of March, I contacted Competent through my insurance to plan for the Mirena IUD. I confirmed several times that this was the device they used and scheduled the appointment. One day before, they called me to inform me that they had no electricity and would attend me at another location. I asked if there would be any issues with the procedure, and they assured me there would not. The new location looked more like an aesthetic clinic. I was treated on a stretcher without foot supports, and the supposed gynecologist (whose specialty I now doubt) did not even have a proper chair for the procedure. The assistant was actually the receptionist, something I found out later. I signed some documents, but I did not sign the one where they released themselves from liability for malpractice. The procedure was extremely painful, but they told me that was normal. Two weeks later, I was still experiencing discomfort, so I requested a follow-up appointment. They examined me and said everything was fine, that it was just a matter of adaptation. I never received the information about the IUD, despite asking for it multiple times. Last week, I suffered a miscarriage. I didn't know I was pregnant. The bleeding was so severe that I ended up in the hospital, where I was treated by real gynecologists. They confirmed that the IUD had been incorrectly placed -- it was left in the cervix instead of the uterus. This caused the miscarriage, the pain, and the abnormal exposure of the device, since it was not only the strings that were visible. The IUD had not shifted due to the bleeding; from the beginning, it had been lodged in the cervix, and force was required to remove it. The most serious part: it was not even a Mirena, as they had told me. It was an obsolete model that should no longer be used due to its size, material, and outdated medical safety. During all this time, I was left unprotected, without real contraceptive coverage, and at risk. This clinic lied to me, placed a device that was not the one promised, ignored my symptoms, and put me in danger. I share this so that more women are warned. This is not just poor care: it was a complete lack of ethics and professionalism. ___________________ Tuve una experiencia muy negativa con Competent y me siento en la responsabilidad de compartirla para que otras mujeres no pasen por lo mismo. Hoy, con más claridad, veo que hubo varias señales de alerta que no supe identificar a tiempo porque creí que estaba tratando con un equipo profesional y confiable. A comienzos de marzo contacté a Competent a través de mi seguro para planificar con el DIU Mirena. Confirmé varias veces que ese era el dispositivo que utilizaban y agendé la cita. Un día antes me llamaron para informarme que no tenían luz y que me atenderían en otra locación. Pregunté si habría algún inconveniente con el procedimiento y me aseguraron que no. La nueva ubicación parecía más una clínica de estética. Me atendieron en una camilla sin soporte para los pies, y la supuesta ginecóloga (de la cual ahora dudo su especialidad) no tenía una silla adecuada para el procedimiento. La asistente era en realidad la recepcionista, algo que descubrí después. Firmé algunos documentos, pero no firme uno donde se eximían de responsabilidad por malas prácticas. El procedimiento fue extremadamente doloroso, pero me dijeron que era normal. Dos semanas después seguía con molestias, pedí una cita de control, me examinaron y me dijeron que todo estaba bien, que era cuestión de adaptación. La información del DIU nunca me la enviaron, a pesar de múltiples solicitudes. En el mes de Junio sufrí un aborto espontáneo. No sabía que estaba embarazada. El sangrado fue tan fuerte que terminé en el hospital, donde me atendieron ginecólogos reales. Me confirmaron que el DIU fue mal colocado, lo dejaron en el cuello uterino en lugar del útero, lo que causó el aborto, el dolor y la exposición anormal del dispositivo, pues no solamente las guias era lo que se podia ver. El DIU no se había movido por el sangrado, desde el inicio estuvo prensado en el cuello uterino, y fue necesario hacer fuerza para retirarlo. Lo más grave, no era un Mirena, como me dijeron. Era un modelo obsoleto que ya no debería usarse por su tamaño, material y desactualización médica. Durante todo este tiempo estuve expuesta, sin protección anticonceptiva real, y en riesgo. Esta clínica me mintió, me colocó un dispositivo que no era el prometido, ignoró mis síntomas, y me puso en peligro. Comparto esto para que más mujeres estén alertas. No es solo una mala atención: fue una falta total de ética y profesionalismo.

I wish Doctors offices didn't have strong air freshener smells because it's not a hotel or store, it's a medical facility where people are coming in with medical things and allergies, sickness or taking medications that increase sensitivities. Theres a time and place for air fresheners.
