I googled this law firm to see if I could get some legal advice the receptionist was extremely rude and and was constantly trying to rush me off the phone and I would not recommend this law firm to my worst enemy just to speaking to the receptionist put a very bad taste in my mouth to me ever calling this law firm to ever hire them for any matters I may have. Attorney Jones was a welcoming enough man with many pleasantries when I met up with him to discuss handling my aunt's estate in May 2021. He commented how simple the estate was and explained the procedure to file with the Albemarle Court and closing the estate. The contract with his office noted his hourly rate as well as the legal aid's hourly rate. Summary of our dealing with Attorning Jones ... It is hard to believe an "experienced" attorney needed to do so much research and still was unable to move our filing forward. All work billed at his rate. Very disappointed that Attorney Jones accomplished setting up the court date for us and after two months billed us for $13,000. We had conference calls to determine what additional work was being worked on for the estate closer. Lots of uncertainty and he'd have to research with the court. We finally terminated Attorney Jones in September, and then received an additional $8800 invoice. We contacted MartinWren with no response from the law firm. Since then, we selected another law office and have determined it should have only cost us approximately $6000 total for completing the whole estate work for which they are very efficient and helpful !!!!! Very frustrating experience with MartinWren!!! Would not recommend!!! $22,000 for Attorney Jones to set us up to go to a court date, and not even come close to completing the estate. read more

Spent 15 minutes discussing a case with John Simpson who stated that he would review the documents and report back his findings and determination as to whether the claim I have in a Trust matter would be actionable. I sent multiple emails, and phone messages, but he lacked the courtesy to even reply back. He did mention his $350.00 hourly rate at the outset. He had the documents I sent but abandoned me at the beginning. What a heartless JERK. There are more compassionate and empathic litigators in Charlottesville. I came to this firm for assistance to develop a release letter for a trust. I dealt with Raye Jones who is a very charismatic man with more than 20 years of experience in the field of trusts and estates. I received bills from him almost monthly for two years which I paid thinking that things would soon be resolved. These charges totaled more than $20,000. He charged for researching laws which after practicing for more than 20 years he must have known. I repeatedly asked that he not incur any more charges without my approval. I was charged constantly for minutia -even for reading my emails asking the above. While these charges came from the very small estate, I felt greatly taken advantage of. read more
