He even goes above and beyond to help advocate for the safety of those who ride out to the Open Space trails by communicating with both Open Space and Santa Clara County representatives about the relationship between vehicle vs. equestrian transportation along the street leading into the trailhead. Tyler often works from sun up to sun down. Often working to improve the quality and comfort of the facility. You will find it difficult to come across someone who is harder working or more honest than Tyler! To top it off, it's rare to see him without a smile on his face. Heck, it's rare to see any of the horse owners out at CCR without a smile on their faces! One of the few facilities whose boarders welcome new arrivals with invites to join trail rides, dinner outings, and other extracurricular activities! There's plenty other things to say but there's even more to be experienced in person!

He will try to tell you he works his ass off while loading up his 4 wheeler in preperation to leave the ranch for another weekend in a row with no one to keep an eye on the horses, and no way to reach him WHEN something goes wrong. The trainer there is barely an intermediate rider, so if you have a difficult horse, or are serious about riding go elsewhere. The arena also has terrible footing. Drama is the same as any other barn. The trail is nice, but has only one loop trail so it gets old very quickly.

She breaks down each movement clearly, so whether you are just starting or working on more advanced maneuvers, she passes on her considerable knowledge in a way you'll understand! She teaches adult and kids alike, both English & western disciplines, and even preps students for local shows! I also like that she tailors lessons to each individual .... My husband and I ride during the same time, and she has me focussing on collection & bending, while he is working on his posting trot & his seat at the lope. It's nice that she doesn't overload us during our lesson, too. She'll give us something to work on, explain it & answer questions, and then let us do our thing. (I have had other instructors in the past who barely let me accustomed to a new concept before briskly moving onto the next. I found it hard to build muscle memory or fully grasp what they were teaching.) I felt so at home here, that when I bought my first horse in October, I decided to board him at Big Oak. My little arab is currently in training with Rhonda, and he is shaping up to be a wonderful mount for me! She has taken an introverted, easily spooked, green-ish gelding & given him confidence through training to simply blossom! Now, even with all those evil shiny tarps or scary tumbleweeds, he doesn't bat an eye and keeps focussed on what we're doing! He even moves off my leg now, collects nicely, and keeps a nice head position despite all those scary distractions ;)

I've been taking lessons here for about three years now and when I finally get my own beastie I'll make the 20 min drive out there. It's a beautiful area, very woody and clean looking. The people up here are great fun and very friendly and they have a nice range of lesson horses for people from "I've never seen a horse in person" to "I ride championship" So if you're thinking about a lesson or anything take the trip out here, but be sure to call ahead and get the gate code. The property owners aren't happy when they get calls to the house from Rhonda's people.

She works the students hard, but is also compassionate and encouraging. The students learn a good work ethic, as they must participate in the cleaning of stalls, feeding and care of the horses. Not much there by way of comforts, barn, Porta-Potty, and a few old plastic chairs, but for the students riding, who cares.

I am soooo disappointed in this place!!…read more After reviewing different places for my 10 yr old daughter's horseback riding lessons (including TGIF Farms, Garrods, Chapparal...) I decided to go w/ Cevalo even though they are far off in the hills. We came to visit on a Thurs and met Diane, the trainer. She had a cask on her arm from some injury (non-horseback related, she said). That was fine with us. We enrolled for her beginners class that very evening. We came back at 4:30PM. She sends my daughter off with one of her students to have her watch how to tack and saddle the horses. I love the thought of that, so that my daughter can learn the responsibility of caring for them as well as riding them. When we came back on the training ground, I see my daughter was led around by first, some other girl's mom, and then later...one of the student's dad as Diane just shouts out instructions. Who is supposed to help train my daughter around here??? I guess that was fine but it just so happens the horse my daughter trains on, Wyatt, does not like to be rushed by other horses. Some time during the training, as Diane trains the other more advanced students to jump...one girl and her horse ran straight at my daughter. That scared Wyatt and knocked my daughter right onto the ground. That freaked me out!!! I knew my lil girl was pretty shaken but she played it off well cause she knew if she showed hurt, I would've probably stopped her lessons. Anyways, we came again the following Thur. Diane was already out in the training field. I walked out there to see what we needed to do. She told me to have my daughter watch how to tack the horses again. So we did. It wasn't really any formal instructions. We felt kind of neglected in a way. Afterwards, we went back to the fields. It was already 15mins in. Some other girl from previous lesson was still riding Wyatt. I told my daughter to go stand by Diane until given instructions on what to do. I watched my daughter being totally neglected by Diane until she walks back to the fence. I wasn't too happy so got out of my car and walked up to the fence myself. Then Diane saw me and called out to my daughter to mount on the horse.....The previous girl on the horse was being led by her own mother. So when my daughter got on, she looked totally confused as to who will lead her. Diane was going to have her on the horse by herself!!! So of course I volunteered to do it. It's my own child for god's sake. I can't have her fall again like last week. And like I predicted, another girl drove her horse straight at Wyatt again!! This time when he buckled, I pulled down on his lead rope to keep him from knocking off my daughter. Fortunately my daughter didn't fall (she was really scared though) but the other girl fell hard off her horse. I felt bad for her. But I've had enough. This was only our 2nd lesson and I'm not even impressed. So unless you don't mind your child falling off horses and learning by themselves, go ahead. But with the $ I'm paying, I expected better quality of training. Money is not the issue when talking about my child's safety. I've paid 1 month of training and am still skipping the last 2 training. We've enrolled at Garrods...let's see how they do.

I'd only had her a few months, and I was nervous about how it would go. Ramon handled her with such patience and gentleness that after that first visit, she never needed sedation again. She trusted him, and so did I. Since then, Ramon has continued to exceed my expectations. He truly understands horses, not just how to trim and shoe them. He's incredibly calm, patient, and kind, which makes a world of difference for horses that need that extra reassurance. Recently, he worked on a rescue horse we took in who hadn't had proper hoof care in years. His feet were long, overgrown, and he had zero handling experience. Ramon took his time, never rushed, and somehow turned it into a non-traumatic experience for the horse. By the time he was done, the horse's feet looked amazing--a total transformation. I've recommended Ramon to everyone I know who's looking for a farrier. I saw another review mentioning communication issues, but that has not been my experience. Ramon has always done his best to keep us informed and shows up when he says he will. I also don't believe it's fair to give a business one star without ever experiencing their work firsthand. Once Ramon works on your horses, you'll never want another farrier. His prices are fair and very competitive--especially compared to others in the area. Expensive doesn't always mean better, and Ramon proves that time and time again. He's not just trimming and throwing shoes on--he understands hoof angles and proper biomechanics, which is so important for long-term soundness. More than that, he's a great man with a great soul--and your horses will recognize that from the moment they meet him. Highly, highly recommend.
