This is by far the best dermatology office I have ever been to. I've been a patient since I was young and I always appreciated how caring and compassionate the doctors were. The entire staff at this office is very friendly! Which is hard to find at a medical office- especially in Tahoe. I noticed some of the bad reviews complain about having to wait a long time... But let's be honest here, this is a place that cures skin cancer and does surgery. I would never get upset about having to wait longer than expected because the doctor was tied up with curing a skin cancer on someone. Imagine if that was your grandmother in surgery? I like to focus on how clean the office is, and how knowledgable the doctors and nurses are because as a patient I want to feel like I'm in good hands... And I get that from this place. read more

First of all if you're expecting to visit a doctor for your rash, I've been advised by one of their employees the doctor does not stoop to such a low level of work. Instead you'll be visited by someone else. Oh they're nice alright. When you say, hello doctor, you'll get a big smile and a, just call me Kyle response. Perhaps you'll find out the next day when you check Kyle's business card he is not a doctor at all, but a PA. What is a PA? A doctor's assistant but you probably wouldn't be told that unless you asked them point blank. Oh and lastly, when you've finally had your appointment scheduled for weeks to meet the doctor because your wound or rash or allergic reaction hasn't healed - you'll have a receptionist tell you you're obviously mistaken thus calling you a liar as she tries to push you back towards the PA. So unfortunately I can't say a good word for them or Carson Dermatology for that matter. At CD I was able to get my money back after I discovered the PA's card at check out. At AD I wasted my evening and had my temper raised by a group that doesn't take responsibility for their actions. Someone needs to stop this new breed of creative money makers. It would have not only saved me a few visits to the dddd...PA but perhaps I would have been well by now too. So learn from my misfortune folks - Always ask to see a doctor when you make your appointment. Just don't ask who answers the phone to make an appointment for you. Don't know about the doctor, but don't see the P.A. I made an appointment and was told when I arrived that the doctor wasn't in and I'd be seeing the physician's assistant. She was very rude and unkind. Didn't know what the growth was on my face and started guessing about what to do. "Well, i could inject it with a steroid, I could biopsy it, or you could wait and see if it will go away." She was all ready to cut into me when she didn't even know what she was doing. I asked her what she would do, and she said, "Well, I'm not you." When I pressed her further on, she said she would probably wait to see if it would go away. That visit was a complete waste of my time. The office should have told me that I'd be seeing the P.A., not the doctor, and the P.A. should have told me that I'd need to see the doctor because she didn't know what it was. I ended up seeing another doctor (and he took one look at me and said it was a benign cyst and removed it in the office). read more

The other reviewer saying a botox patient was giving priority makes a lot of sense now... I just called and asked for a per unit cost for botox. I have had botox in several US cities. It ranges from $7 (that was really cheap) to $15 per unit administered by board certified doctors. This place charges $270 for the first unit and $220 for each additional. I had to ask her three times to make sure she didn't mean per area. THIS IS INSANE. That is 20 times what I normally pay for botox. Thieves. Call around. Ask for unit prices. If they only do by area, don't do it. I've found several place in the Tahoe area that are $12.50/unit. I'll go there. Also, anywhere that only charges per area is wildly overcharging without fail. Especially because I am young and don't need too many units but even for people who are older when they start botox its usually outrageous. read more

I just had to write that I love Dr. Salm and his staff. I have always been treated well, especially by the doctor and Jeanne. I ave waited for my time, but never more than 15 minutes. Today was five. I expect a wait in the office, especially toward the end of the day. Sometimes patient visits take longer than expected. They back up. That's normal and I would never schedule appointments back to back. Please disregard the complaints. I had a melanoma and was well cared for. Dr. Salm is extremely competent. read more

I made a 10:45 appointment at the satellite office in Incline Village with Jeanne Horton to see my 13 year daughter for acne. I let the front office know that we would be there early in hopes I can get her back to school and me back to work as soon as possible. She said she would make a note of it. We arrived at 10:30, signed in and waited. At 10:50, a well to-do-woman walked in and asked to see Jeanne to "look at a spot on both sides of her nose." I heard the front office gal tell someone that "we are squeezing in an appt for Jeanne at 11". At 11:30 we are called into an examining room. At 11:45 I peaked out of the room to see if anyone was coming. A few minutes later, an office assistant comes in and asked if Jeanne has been in yet. I said no. She said to me "she (my daughter) needs to get to school, doesn't she." I said yes. She said, "Sorry, Jeanne is in with a needy Botox patient, it's annoying me to. I will pop my head in and let her know you are waiting." Jeanie comes in, flustered and hurried. Takes a quick look at my daughters face and back, rambled off some washes to use, and said she would prescribe my daughter some antibiotics and a topical. She said if her skin got dry, to use a certain type of OTC lotion that the assistant wrote down on Kleenex. My daughter left the office in tears. I called the office back soon after to speak to someone about our experience. (The phone number is for their main office in South Shore.) I explained the experience to the receptionist and she said I would be getting a call back from the office manager, June. A few hours later (no call from June), I phoned the pharmacy a few hours later to see if the prescriptions were ready. They said they had to order them, and that they would be $460. I call back to the main office to say I can't afford the scrip. Got a call from Jeanne, who again rambles off a # of different types of scrip's she can call in, suggests an app to get coupons for them, and calls in the different scrip (no acknowledgment of the Botox patient getting priority). I purchased the antibiotic she prescribed (none of the coupons on the app worked). I gave my daughter a pill and she woke up with horrible diarrhea. Useless & harmful prescription for my 13 year old... thanks! This office is completely unprofessional for medical treatments, but looks like its fine for Botox, they'll get you right in without an appointment! read more

I just received a extra bill in the mail from this place. nearly four months after i went here for a basic screening which I was told would be under 100 dollars. Because I used a co pay for insurance the bill ended up being several hundred for no more than a few minutes in a room with a PA, not a docter. While in the room the PA saw a small pin headed mark on my hand and promptly froze it without telling me this would be an extra 150 !!!!!!!!! for a second long procedure. As a longtime resident and professional business woman here in Lake Tahoe. I am frustrated when going into Dr. Salm's office and confronted by unfamilar faces due to their high staff turnover. It makes me wonder why Dr. Salm cannot keep staff for more than 6 months as this is about the time frame I frequent his practice. My complaint is that my otherwise simple medical conditions have been mismanaged due to extreme office disorganization! I plan on seeking other dermatology care locally in the hopes of feeling known and welcome. It would seem that maintaining consistent stafff doesn't involve "rocket science". read more

Don't go here. I had a horrible experience with having a mole removed from a sensitive area. As a female, I felt a little nervous about it, but Dr. Salm appeared even more nervous, which did not put me at ease. He did not make eye contact with me or explain things to me well at all. I went to a different doctor to have the stitches removed and she said that his knots were different from any she'd ever seen. The knots ended up being really deep in my skin too, so there were two more appointments to get them out from under my skin. He ended up not getting all of the mole either, so I went to a different doctor to have it done again. It was overall a painful and traumatizing experience. I will never go there again or ever recommend it to anyone. read more

This is the best office I've ever been too. The staff is very professional, cheerful, and attentive to my problems. Dr. Salm is very concerned about satisfying my needs, and is the most humble and caring person you'll ever meet. The results are awesome. Made appt 3 months ago. Arrived early today as requested with all my paperwork filled out ahead of time that I had them fax me. I arrived and the waiting room was full the women behind the desk were courteous. When I inquired if the doctor was on time I was told yes and one patient was ahead of me. I politely waited for 45 minutes and cancelled my appt and left because I had another doctors appt that took me 4 months to get that I was not about to let these jokers screw up and make me miss. The receptionist offers me movie tickets for my trouble that have expired in 2010. Beyond this while I waited for 45 minutes I started hearing medical staff discuss very personal medical information out where I could hear every word. The staff were not dressed professionally nor were they cleanly groomed. They seemed more interested in the Christmas cookies they were eating. I will never return there nor would I recommend anyone that has ever had medical care in an up to date facility visit this place. This office is about as exciting as the local DMV. I'm from the Bay Area and have pretty fair standards for care and cleanliness of an office. This was a waste of three months of my time. read more
