The pier where I spotted a grebe! Marshy Point Nature Center, Middle River, Maryland

We came here last weekend to fly a drone and soak in some nature. We love Dundee Creek and come here during the warm weather in our boat. This time of year, we have to settle for a land visit which is good too. This state park is an excellent use of what is probably a flood plain. The day we arrived was after heavy rains-- brings your boots cause you are out in the woods of Middle River. There is a nice playground with a nautical/water theme that looks fun. They also have some turkeys and chickens in a fenced-in area-- you can look bt not touch which is also OK. I also saw two exceptionally beautiful owls-- a barred owl and a barn owl. The barn owl seemed very shy. There were also quite a few families with children-- this is a great place to bring your kids to soak up some sun and nature. We took a little side trail hike that lopped back to the parking lots. There is also a pier where you can do some bird watching-- we saw a grebe! I had never seen one before... There is plenty of parking and the day we were here there was no entry fee. Thank you Marshy Point Nature Center for providing a beautiful nature spot for so many people!

This is a very big place!! They held a Faerie Festival in June. The Nature center has turkeys, owls, other fowl , pigs and different exhibits. I love they provide education on the importance of marshes and protecting them for many species. They have a great deal of trails and one is 6 miles. They have bridges over the marsh so you can see the water too. A great day to spend a sunny afternoon and support this nonprofit! The Festival was very kid friendly and had lots of fun activities and storytelling. Lots of walking!! The pottery vendors have beautiful mugs, bowls, chalices, and pots. Parking was free and all the people were very friendly!

This was my first time here, and as we are in the midst of COVID, a lot of the great things mentioned in other reviews were closed. That being said, we still have a wonderful time! It's perfect for all ages, especially Katie and Will's trail which is completely paved, so very stroller or wheelchair friendly. I took my 2.5 year old with me and we first saw some outdoor animals (chickens, roosters, owls) and then stopped into the nature center which was taking all covid precautions. As I said a lot of the "exhibits" were temporarily closed but it was still cool--at most a 10 min scenario. Once outside we opted for the paved trail which led us over a "cool bridge" according to the toddler :) We also did a .5 mile offshoot trail. By the time we got back to the parking lot, my energetic girl was ready to pass out--always a sign of a good time.

It's like the zoo or aquarium but a lot smaller and without the price tag! Overall, it's family friendly and FREE so I approve. Inside the nature center you will find: - Animals in tanks, cages, waddling around (there was a duck chillaxin' inside), or hanging from the walls or ceiling (thanks to taxidermy). - Various activities; Put your hands on snake skins, feathers, bones, hides, and honeycombs... It's a cool place to learn about Chesapeake Bay's indigenous plants and animals. - Knowledgeable naturalists who host activities and lectures. The events are affordable and always rotating. ($3 for non-members, $2 for members) I attended the "Before Chocolate" event which included a fun history lesson (for adults) and a fun activity (for the kids... and adults). I made and took home chocolate treats so why wouldn't I like it? They have a nice patio, which is perfect during pleasant weather. Around the center there is a dock and different trails you can explore. Go to the website for more information and support your local park!

Marshy Point is one of our favorite parks to take our golden retriever hiking. There is an awesome nature center that is open daily from 9 to 5 and they hold lots of different activities year round, the full moon frog hike was one of our favorites. The staff are great about answering questions and making you feel welcome and they offer all of this great stuff for free (some programs do charge a small fee but if you become a member the fees are reduced). We have been coming here for many years but there are still trails we have yet to discover. In the spring you can hear all the different varieties of frogs in the marsh and vernal pond, we love trying to see how many different ones we can find during each visit. Some of the trails have partial boardwalk areas to cover the soft, muddy ground but overall the hiking is very easy and their is a trail for everyone depending on how long you want to spend out in the woods. In addition to the snakes, fish, frogs and other reptiles inside the center there is a duck that runs the place and you can interact with her (depending on her mood of course) and outside there are turkeys, chickens, an owl, a falcon and they are currently building new enclosures for a couple of new additions to the menagerie. You can truly spend an entire day exploring this awesome park and nature center.

    Very happy duck

Going in here made me remember how much I missed going to the free library. The library was very…read morewell-kept and it actually felt like a library due to the quietness. The librarians came over and asked if I needed help and her genuineness was awesome. This library has a nice variety of books and movies to choose from along with a study/quiet room. There was also a good amount of available seats to sit and read or listen to audio books. I'll definitely be back!

We had our first visit here last week. I only went to the children's library section so I cannot…read morecomment on the overall selection of books/periodicals/etc. from the regular circulation. The children's library was very nice! My kids are a bit young for reading by themselves but we found several books that I read to them, and many comfortable low love seats for me to sit and read with them on. They also had a little tykes play house with many hands-on learning toys, a leap pad station with fun and age-appropriate apps (my LOs personal fave was the petting zoo app), and some computers. The children's librarians that we met were all very lovely ladies, embodying every mother goose sort of kindness you could hope for. We got to do a children's first art class too. It was messy and wonderful, and the kids loved it. In the end that's what matters most to this mom: it was a safe, clean environment that my kids enjoyed. I'm certain that we will be going back. One side note: there is an automatic sliding door entrance near the activity room. And yes, small tots can open it. Just keep an eye on yours if you're doing an activity back there. In the general library there's another large door between the actual library proper and the activity room.
