I guess it's better to experience growing pains and lessons learned in a smaller and less critical market. Anyway, I've been coming here pretty much since it opened, even though it's a bit of a trek for me. The trip has been more worthwhile for me since Tanger Outlets opened a Marshalls, which coincidentally is nearby to the Saks off 5th. They have a selection of items that sold in Saks Fifth Avenue, but they also have items that are exclusively at Saks off 5th (i.e. were never actually in the retail Saks Fifth Avenue boutiques). For the high-end brands, the prices are less than retail, but you won't get bargain basement prices that you will rave about for years, like at Winners or Marshalls. Case in point, I've never seen a Missoni dress at Saks off 5th go for less than $200, but I once scored a Missoni dress (in perfect condition, I should add) at Winners for $55 (!) That being said, Saks Off 5th almost always has several Missoni dresses, but you'll only see them at Winners maybe once every 5 years, and maybe only 2 of them. So selection at Saks off 5th is much better. I mean they always have high-end brands, meanwhile Winners and Marshalls will get some in during their "Runway Event" and "Red Carpet Event" respectively. These happen only a few times a year, and inventory sells out within a week or so. Nonetheless, I still love all 3 aforementioned stores (Winners and Marshalls more for the prices, and Saks off 5th more for the selection/availability). The change rooms at Saks off 5th don't have real doors; they have curtains. However, you can "lock" the curtains with hooks, which I appreciate, so strangers don't barge in on me while I'm trying to wiggle myself out of a bandage dress, haha. They have a good selection of women's and men's clothes. The kid's clothes selection is small, as is the kid's shoes section. Women's shoe section is huge. Men's shoes section is smaller. Accessories section is ok (mostly purses/wallets, jewelry and sunglasses. Some scarves and belts.) This place is like I mentioned earlier in the Tanger Outlet Mall, so there's ample free parking.

Then one day one of my friends told me they also sell clothes. I said "yeah, like riding breeches that make you look like you're wearing a diaper? No thank you." She said "no, like regular clothes." Being the shopper that I am, I had to check it out. My friend was right, they do have regular clothes. Well, they are more "outdoor adventure/active lifestyle" kind of clothes. Like what you would find at Sail, Mountain Equipment Co-Op and Bushtakah. They have a huge selection of Royal Robbins and they carry my favourite brand of this kind of clothing, Toad & Co. (formerly called Horny Toad - and I'm so glad they changed the name because I used to get a lot of funny looks when I asked stores if they carry Horny Toad). Anyway, prices are on par with other stores that sell this kind of clothing. They do have a clearance section at the back of the store where items are marked down and prices can be quite low. If you need to use the fitting room and staff aren't around, there's an old school bell on the wall that you ring. It's pretty cool! I can't speak about any of their equestrian supplies because I don't know anything about such things, but there's a huge selection. Staff are always friendly and nice. The parking lot is unpaved and bumpy with potholes everywhere, so be careful!

This Ricki's is in Carlingwood Mall. Ricki's is a women's clothing store. They sell some…read moreaccessories too like costume jewelry and scarves. I would describe the aesthetic as fast fashion casual and business-casual wear for 30 somethings. They have some cute pieces, but nothing really unique or fashion forward. Quality is satisfactory for the price if you get it on sale. In my opinion, the regular prices are too high for the quality of the items. They have 3 lengths for pants, short (30" inseam), regular (32" inseam) and tall (34" inseam). Their sizes start at 0 and go up to 18 (so does cover the "plus" range of 14+). I find their sizes run big. I can sometimes wear a 0 but sometimes even the 0 is too big (my jeans size is 24 to 26 depending on cut and brand, so I'm not THAT small). Same goes for their lettered sizing (runs big), which ranges from XS to XXL. If they are going to do this vanity sizing then they should carry 00 and XXS. Anyway, this location has a good selection of items and they always have lots in their clearance section.

I need spring clothes anyway! The Ricki's caught my eye with their splash of spring colours and If that wasn't inviting enough, they had huge sales on too! There was a selection of clothing at 40% off, and Tees were BOGO - buy one get one free - and these were nautical in design. Very nice! I have to say, the staff was stellar - all of them! Very helpful pointing out the best sales, finding the right sizes, and stocking up my dressing room. There was only 1 minor glitch: the 40% off sale didn't present itself on my bill correctly, and I didn't realize this until after I had returned home. So, I returned to the shop the next day, and the people who had helped me were not there that day - it was someone else. So I explained the problem, and the clerk behind the counter said, brightly, "I can fix that for you!" So she did. I mean, she corrected the bill and made the refund, and signed me up for the "Pants Club" (which means: when you buy 5 pairs of pants, you get the next pair absolutely FREE!"), AND she gave me a coupon worth $10.00 off my next purchase!! Well done, indeed! I will definitely go back!

Floor plans are constantly being switched around in attempt to revive and brighten up the space. Regardless of the amount of people in line, the checkout is slow and tedious. If you suffer from hot flashes, waiting in this line to checkout may trigger one. Parking is always a mess here, especially during the weekend & trying to cross from the parking area to the sidewalk is usually a challenge due to the heavy traffic and cars not stopping to let you cross. I now park around the corner at Staples, so much easier! I'll always be a fan of Winners as I love the thrill of the hunt for brand name items, but there are far better Winners out there. This location is just A-OK!

They also have jewelery by local designers and weird knick knacks like hand puppets of Canadian prime ministers, lol. So funky and weird! This store is more neat, clean and upscale-ish, a la "Yorkville" (Toronto reference) and not like Adorit in the Byward Market (that also carries local and Canadian designs, and some of the same brands, like Miik) which is more, a la "Kensington Market" (sorry, another Toronto reference), but meaning more bohemian and smelling of patchouli. Prices are high, but your getting good quality and supporting the Canadian market.

The people who work here clearly know what they are talking about. It is also great that so many of the designs are by Canadian women!
