I don't share the negative view that others posted. Derek Phelps was my recruiter and was very helpful along the way. Steve was also helpful through the process. From first interview to offer was somewhere between 2-3 weeks total to the best of my recollection. With respect to the if the company doesn't pay the commission that you're responsible, I don't recall signing anything like that. Some of the other complaints posted here regarding having to come into the office for every little thing I do somewhat agree with. There is opportunity to do more over the phone or via email/fax for simple issues like signing the pending offer specifically for candidates residing outside the Dallas/Fort Worth area. As a result, I was out of pocket $209 at the time of my termination from my previous job because of overusing my earned vacation days. However, I've landed into a fantastic organization so in my mind it's worth every penny. All in all, if you're in the DFW area and you're looking to work in the DFW area you could do far worse than using Marshall Career Service. I would have to agree with the other reviews in that while you're sitting there for the first interview they act like you are an important client. I say act because once you leave you will likely never hear from them again as was my case. I even called to see if there was a problem and was treated like they never heard of me. I can only guess they have no way of looking your name up and seeing wht the details of your interview may have been. Meeting with these folks was, in my case, a complete zero value, waste of time. I had two brief interviews with this company a few months ago, I did not write a review right away since emotions are usually higher than usual at that time and I did not want it to cloud my judgment. I'd rather work at McDonald's that ever deal with this company again. I just want to start by saying that I did not need a new job at the time, have been with the same company for almost 12 years (but due to government cuts, my company is not doing well so I was looking at my options), and I also have two master's degrees. That being said when I went in for an interview, the interviewer treated me so incredibly rudely and tried to make me feel like total doo (to not use inappropriate language). This company is so outdated it's laughable. First of all this company will not use email still in 2016 so you have to play phone tag to get anything done. Second they refuse to meet with anyone after 4 pm so when you show up for your 3:30 pm interview and they are running behind by 20 minutes, they talk to you for 10 minutes then kick you out and expect for you to leave work early to meet with them again. Really how would you ever get a quality candidate that isn't desperate for work to meet in the middle of the work day?? So the moral of the story is, if you're a company looking for quality candidates, don't go to this company because the only candidates you're going to get are going to be so desperate that they will be okay with being treated like this just to get a job. read more

This is a scam. They make you sign an agreement that if you quit your job in the first year you have to pay them $10,000. Marshall called me to come in for an interview and when I went in, They ask me what job I came in for. I told them they called me to come in for a job. Then they wanted me to sign a form that says I will pay then $10,000 at the very moment I quit. if I quit my job in the first year I have to pay that money immediately. If I had $10,000 I would not be there. This seems like a scam to me. It is a definite was a waste of my time. This is what really hurts placement services. read more

This is not really an employment agency as most people think of one. This company does not find jobs for individuals. This company finds candidates for hiring companies that come to them with vacancies. They do not seek jobs for specific candidates but maintain a porfolio of job seekers that they then try to match up with these open positions. I stopped dealing this this company after several months of frustration. I didn't drop them because they couldn't place me with one of their client companies. I left them because they would never return calls or e-mails. I worked with two different reps and both told me to contact them every 1-2 weeks to get updates and "keep myself at the front of their minds". I e-mailed the owner/president after my first rep failed to return my calls and expressed my displeasure with their professionalism and customer service. I got placed with a higher level rep as a result. After the first month or so, the second rep too stopped returning calls and e-mails. After two weeks of efforts in trying to get in touch with my contact, I again e-mailed the owner and gave him my feedback. This time I told them they could take me off their candidate list. I can't stand a company that won't return phone calls when they tell you to call them. Its horribly unprofessional. Additional comments: very old fashioned processes with paper forms for references, an online profile that takes about 30 minutes to fill out due to the slowness of their web server and an office visit required every time they want to talk to you about a possible opportunity. read more

This agency IS very different, but not in a good way. They do not conduct any business over the phone or email other than scheduling all of the meetings to meet with them. Simply hearing about a job description or giving feedback after an interview should not require a face-to-face. Let's start with understanding that this "service" is for their "clients" not the job seeker. Aside from the previously listed concerns from others regarding the fee, remember that you would need to confirm, within days that the client had paid their fee or you, the seeker, are responsible for the entire 10% of your first year's salary or a min. of $10,000 if you continue to work there. Meaning, if they don't pay, you'd better fire yourself, quickly. Next, the amazing unprofessionalism. Staff will forget, repeatedly, which job or city you were applying to (not critical, people forget), leave you waiting for over 45 minutes for your meetings, but perhaps most concerning to those out of work - require you to come in to discuss anything, or as I put it, just to say 'hi'. If you live near their office this probably isn't a problem at all, but if you live any distance you could be making daily trips just to chat about how things are going. They will refuse to use email or phone to discuss anything. In this day of electronics, this is ridiculously unnecessary. During my last visit, I was only there to hear the outcome of a second interview. My rep hadn't even called the client for the information until after half an hour after I got there. An hour later, I get the news. Two seekers (from the same rep) going for a particular job, I lost out to the other for a reason that was very incongruent with what transpired between client and myself. Strange as that may have been, two weeks pass and a call arrives saying the other person isn't panning out very well and that the rep has tried to sway the client to go with the number two choice. Having little to no luck, himself, the rep says that perhaps I should try to sell myself to the client. (???) First, isn't that the rep's primary duty? Regardless, if the seeker isn't the client's first or second(!) choice how happy can the employment situation become in two weeks, two months? And don't forget, the seeker can't leave for a year without incurring that $10,000 min. fee. Run, don't walk away from this group. read more

Do not waste your time with this so called Employment Agency like I did. Company contacted me, stating that they thought I was a good fit for several opportunities that never produced any interviews. After coming in for the third time, Steve balked and complained at the time I was taking to read the contract the company wanted me to sign. After I said I would take the contract with me to review in detail, Steve Francisco then went into the hard sell, virtually demanding I sign then and there. I'm not one for writing reviews but I think this one is warranted. After meeting with the recruiter the 2 required times and asking the right questions, I feel my time was wasted. Instead of telling me their expertise and companies they have relationships with, I think my time was just to add me to their database of candidates when and if I would get a call. As someone actively searching we need more immediate interviews. Just be honest instead of promising something you cannot deliver. Going for an interview here was a complete waste of time. They overbook their intake interviews and I wasn't called in until 45 minutes after my scheduled time. The other reviews are absolutely true; they require you to sign a contract stating you will pay a minimum of $10,000 if you separate from a placement within the first year unless it is for "good cause". That was too vague for me to be comfortable signing it so we concluded the interview and I left. I've never heard of a placement agency requiring such a fee from a candidate. read more

I am giving them 1 star simply because no stars is not an option. Unless you have nothing to lose, steer clear of these guys. Period. Aside from the $10,000 'fine' you need to pay if you leave the job prior to one year, if the employer fails to pay they 15% finder's fee, you are required to pay for this as well or you need to quit. This part in itself makes me laugh - so if they fail to pay the finder's fee and you are forcing me to quit, do I get socked with the $10,000 fine too??? Having worked with other recruiters, no one has EVER held these things over me. In addition, their process is one of the most Byzantine I have ever seen - little to no email, everything is sign this and sign that, they will not tell you about the companies outside of their office, and they require you to come in every time. No offense, but if I am unemployed, I really don't have the money to drive across the Metroplex for a "well we are still looking for a match!" conversation I could have easily had over the phone. This was over 10 years ago for me, but based on the current reviews it is like nothing has changed. As for the person I dealt with - her advice amounted to basically a pile of crap. She would give me counter advice - say go left then yell at me for going left. She was demeaning and basically told me I wouldn't get a role without her help because my skills were not in line with the 'market demands'. Finally, when I did get a contract role, she told me it was a horrible decision and it would amount to career suicide. Here is the funny part - that 'contract' role landed me a full time role which I have been at for over a decade. So much for their advice. Finally, I read the response from the owner of the career services. I am speechless. You might be a recruiter, but dude! Your PR skills need some serious work. First off, everyone giving you a low recommendation pretty much says what people think about your company and process. You might want to rethink your strategy - especially with the inclusion of computers or ability to correspond via email and phone. Just trying to help you out. read more

TOTAL WASTE!!! Stay away as others have said!! Especially their ops and production side! Worthless waste of time. Every question has to be answered in the office, guess they can't listen over the phone for the answers. Then run you all over the world for interview then back to the office for a "debrief" - WHAT? This isn't an interrogation these people say they help you find a job. You have to sign a contract for repay if you leave before 12 months - DONT SIGN IT! I refused then 6 months later signed only to be run ragged with trips to their office for bogus reasons. Oh by the way, when you do meet with them, you have to tell them what job THEY must have called you about AND if you wait to long to call them back, like a couple days, they "vaguely" remember calling you. So, you will feel SO SO important to them. Find ANY other recruiting company to deal with other than these people!! You will be glad you did. read more

Very dated approach to placing candidates. Yesterday's placement agency using yesterday's methodology, yesterday's practices and yesterday's approach. They still want you to come to their office to be prepped for an interview. (Makes you think they don't know what a telephone is.) Their rationale is "This is how we have always done things." What that means is that they are either unable or unwilling to look at making improvements to their processes and procedures. Which in turn makes them ineffective, inefficient and incompetent at what they do. (That hasn't affected their cockiness or arrogance, however.) read more

I too would agree with all the other reviews, this is not really a employment agency, I went in for an interview and was rudely interrogated regarding my resume, the rep insisted that there were inaccuracies in it. He even suggested I redo the resume, then said I needed to submit to him in writing a 5 year career plan and goals. The job I initially went in for was a high profile position with a lot of interaction with VIPs, blah blah blah...and was miraculously on hold, and I was not a "good fit" nor were the others that I inquired about. I have over 20 years of accounting experience, a bachelor's, and master's degree in accounting and finance, but I was not qualified for the Controller position despite meeting over 90% of the listed requirements for the job. This was a complete waste of my time, and when he scheduled me for a second interview, I questioned it because you already told me that the job I wanted was not available to me, so do I need to come back??? They claim to interview all their candidates at LEAST 3 times before presenting them to a company. The rep actually called me a couple of times after my initial interview wanting to know why I didn't want their help and was offended that I didn't want to come back in..... First off, I'm on my lunch break trying to do this interview because unlike some people I actually HAD a job, so I'm not so desperate that I am willing to take just anything, nor do I have the patience to deal with the likes of these smoke blowers. I continued the job search on my own and found one within a couple of weeks after his last call. My husband had an interview with them on yesterday and had a similar experience with the position not being available and with them wanting him to come back for a second interview. I had an interview with Derek Phelps (a recruiter) for an Industrial Engineering position and this man was more focused on my personal life and asking question about my friends and family and did not have one bit of focus on asking me any questions about my work experience. I had to step up and start explaining my work experience because Derek did not care about it at all. So I became upset and asked to speak to a manager so they brought me Steve Francisco their VP and I told him that Derek was focusing only on my personal life and Steve was just staring at me, and then when he finally started speaking he told me "we are not a hiring agency, we only refer people to employers, so it is okay for us to ask personal questions." This is when I walked out and I was done with Marshall Career Services. Also I am never going to pay somebody 10% or $10,000 from my own salary just because you guys are "referring" me to an employer. These people call our business just as bad as telemarketers! Very pushy people. I tell every rep that calls that our job is not hiring anyone at this time and they still call us at least 5x a day. OUTRAGEOUS! If a company tells you we are not hiring please do not continue to call us and waste our time. It makes us not want to use your resources for future needs. read more
