Jeff Marshall and Sarah Privette represented me in a highly contentious divorce following an abusive 30-year marriage with a malignant narcissist. Sarah and Jeff are extremely knowledgeable in Family Law and they provided sound guidance every step of the way. They were highly effective during mediation with successful resolution of my case that appeared destined to go to court. They gave sound advice based on practicality and their wealth of experience. Sarah also successfully represented me in a Contempt Case filed by my ex-husband. With a history of abuse, it was extremely difficult for me to go through much of the legal process. Jeff and Sarah were patient and understanding with enough of a stern push to help me be able to complete the work for my case. With Sarah's background in Domestic Violence cases, she was extremely compassionate and provided the support and reassurance needed to get me through both cases. She is a thorough and dynamic litigator who covered all bases which led to a successful outcome. Sarah's experience, compassion and skill were unmatched by other attorneys I interviewed prior to choosing Marshall and Taylor. Her preparation and reassurance gave me the confidence needed to effectively testify in court when a year earlier, I could barely speak on the phone about my case. I only wish I had found Sarah years ago. There are no words to adequately convey the appreciation I have for Sarah and Jeff. If you are going through a divorce and especially if you have endured emotional, verbal, physical or financial abuse, Sarah and Jeff are a team you can trust. They will do their very best for you while unwittingly being instrumental in restoring your strength and dignity. I highly recommend Sarah Privette and Jeff Marshall. read more

I selected this firm based off the many quality reviews I saw online. I wish I had done more research as I would've ended up going to any other firms in the area. We needed to complete the final signing 3 times to get a valid document due to Marshall and Taylor making unacceptable clerical errors which made the documents invalid. They would not make it right with billing and proceeded to tell me I am on my own. For a firm charging $400 an hour we expected better representation and a higher quality product than we had received. There are better and cheaper law firms across the triangle, please do your research before making a decision with this firm. read more

I am now on week three of trying to retrieve my funds back from Marshall and Taylor specifically Alicia Ferrante this woman promised me she would look out for me took $14,500 for me and abandoned me when things got the point she would have to show up in court. She literally only had to make maybe four phone calls for me and take two phone calls for me the entire time she was retained This woman. This firm are bad knees. These people are criminal please whatever you do do not waste your money for one second because you end up with nothing but an empty-handed heartache and definitely not once standing by your side in court Marshall and Taylor you should be ashamed of yourselves, abandoning women and men in their time of need when it comes to custody and family law to say that you are the most unreliable most unprofessional firm I've ever dealt with in my life is an understatement. I truly hope that your firm dissolves as all you do is take high retainers and then tell clients that you don't understand and you can't help them and this is out of their scope so let me tell you one thing there is no way in hell I'm going to back down And let you guys get away with this. I will tell the public what you told the bar association, and that was because you answered their call three weeks unturned calls, unturned emails unturned unturned unturned.... In fact, my soon to be ex-husband was able to have his law firm. Send me a letter and the amount of time it took you to ask for my address, but you were the only one of three people who had how in the world have you guys gotten away with this for so long? I sincerely hope that you guys either dissolve or learn some moral conduct and especially study your ethics read more

I hired Ashley with Marshall and Taylor law firm to handle a separation order and she didn't even put the separation date in the paperwork. Then, when I hired her to handle my divorce, she refused to file the paperwork because she wanted to go by the date that me and my ex signed the separation order instead of the date we actually separated because the separation order did not have the actual separation date in it. She didn't do the job that I hired her to do the refuses to give me the remaining of my money back even though I got no service. I have spent over $10,000 just with this law firm and I just recently spent another 2900 for Ashley to handle my divorce. I have $1500 left on the books with this law firm and they refuse to give me my $1500. I feel like that's at least fair even though I got screwed over because I had a lousy lawyer through this law firm. Today I found out the law firm has fired her. And when I asked for my refund of $1500 I was basically told in layman's terms fuck me fuck the client because at the end of the day they got my money and they don't care and I even talked to Mr. Marshall about his lawyers, shortcomings a couple months ago, and he didn't want to do anything about it neither. I do not recommend anyone using this law firm they are garbage. read more

ZERO STARS.. NEW Really ZERO STARS!!! Attorney Holly King is unprofessional and a liar. This woman has done nothing but take money, with little to no help at all. She schedules a consult once a week and has only actually consulted my mom the first time and has been a no call for the rest of the scheduled phone meetings. She was told she had a court case this morning, only to find out that nothing was even filed according to the court clerk. My mother is on a fixed income and doesn't have the time to waste going back and forth for a case she was told to attend that didn't even exist due to Holly's lack of filing. Negligence at it's finest. In fact she is a good lawyer (sarcasm), that she had gone through 3 paralegals in a period of 18 months. Shows how professional she is. This lady is a con. Run the other way. read more

I set up an initial consultation with Sarah Privette at Marshall & Taylor regarding separation/divorce (a phone consultation because of the pandemic). When the appointment time came they called my spouse instead of me. When I spoke with them they admitted the error but didn't really seem to care. The upset this led to was bad enough, but could have been so much worse. What if this had been a situation involving child custody or domestic violence? read more

Although I hired Jeff Marshall according to reviews he was not an advocate for my case. I put time and money into what at least I would pay for and I still do not have an outcome going on 3 years. I hired another attorney to fullfill a separation agreement which was signed by a judge over two years ago that Jeff Marshall could not accomplish. The mission statement posted on the website is a bunch of bull. He never lived up to any of it. read more

picked this law firm based on reviews on Avvo and boy did I make a terrible terrible mistake. After a 6 year amicable relationship my ex husband decided that he was going to keep my son (He lives in Raleigh and I live in Jamaica). He threatened me that if I take him I would be charged with kidnapping. I had no idea of what the law is in regards to these things and was totally desperate as I had to return to Jamaica and my son had to start school. I picked this firm based on reviews and went in totally distraught. Mr. Kilgore seemed more than happy to assist and offer advice. Now here is the thing based on my initial consult fee (which I PAID for). He should have told me that North Carolina has NO jurisdiction and also that I could just go and pick up my son because when there is no custody agreement both parents have custody and it is impossible for one parent to legally 'kidnap' the child. Anyway based on Mr. Kilgore's advice I agreed to pay US$7500 (granted this did not include my costs associated with traveling back and forth from Jamaica, car rental, accommodation, missed work etc). it was not easy to get this money, but when it comes to my child I would have done whatever it took. I was told that this would cover the costs associated with everything from filing for emergency custody to getting a custody arrangement in place. Now Mr. Kilgore was VERY confident that I would be granted emergency custody (it was denied). Then when we went to court the judge says that she is sorry but there is no jurisdiction so she cannot rule in the case and THE JUDGE just said that basically I should do to him what he did to me (i.e. go get me son). Even after the trial when I asked Mr. Kilgore if that's what he thinks I should do and he told me he couldn't advise me to do that. So I had to go to the police (who let me know that I can go get my son). Then I got my son and went to my family in Miami and basically forced my ex-husband to agree to give me my son's passport back (with the help of HIS lawyer). When I tried to get Mr. Kilgore he was unavailable for THREE DAYS. At the end of it all I had written to Mr. Kilgore and explained that really I was mis informed and felt that I was taken advantage of. (really this firm did NOTHING for me). I didn't expect a full refund but I would I figured they would admit they were wrong and at least refunded me a part of the money (I would think at least US$5000 but was willing to accept US$2500). This cost me a FORTUNE and really they just mis informed me and ended up costing me MORE money. They REFUSED to give me anything back (I did sign a document agreeing to the charges but that was based on his advice that this would involve emergency custody, a hearing, mediation, custody 'battle' etc.). Basically this firm will live up to every stereotype of a lawyer you can imagine. They are money hungry greedy sharks, wolves in sheep clothing! They took advantage of me and I guess because I live in Jamaica and have a nice title at my job they assumed that I have money. I don't mind paying but I believe in fairness and value for money. The truth is my ex-husbands lawyer was much much more helpful in getting my son back in my care than my own lawyer!! (who cost more than double!!). So please if you actually care about your children, need a firm that understands the law and actually cares about you and not just your bankbook then I suggest you go to another firm. read more

Jeff Marshall is responsive and goes out of his way to help others. I highly recommend him as an attorney, and as a person.

Mr. Taylor is an exceptional attorney. He aggressively represented me in a divorce. You can trust Mr. Taylor to be well-prepared in court. The judges appreciate Mr. Taylor for his direct, no-nonsense approach and his encyclopedic knowledge of NC family law. His instincts are pure. He is as nimble minded and practical attorney as you will find. No pomp, no ceremony, just business. Not being part of a large, impersonal firm you will learn to appreciate Mr. Taylor's not having a paralegal as it allows him to personally know you and every detail of your case from beginning to end. His brilliance allows him to spin many plates at once. At the same time, he only spends yours and his time on what he knows is value added. In this vein, be patient and understand that he promptly returns calls and emails that are relevant and have a bearing on the case. In navigating me thru my self inflicted wounds, I could not have had better representation. Do exactly as Mr. Taylor directs. Trust him to protect you. He will not let you fall as long as you heed his advice. Even if you fall, he will pick you up and take you across the finish line. read more

Looking for an attorney whose ethics and morals are above reproach? Look no further than the attorneys at Marshall & Taylor. Like many people, needing an attorney is not a daily life occurrence, yet when you need one, chances are you need a great one; especially when it comes to child custody. What makes Mr. Marshall so great? First and foremost, I hired him because he didn't tell me what I wanted to hear. Rather, he told me about the legalities and courses of action I could take. He ensured I fully understood my options and he worked my child custody case in the most cost effective way possible. With my permission, he used associate attorneys that have a lower hourly rate to keep the cost palatable. In addition, he did not file unfruitful motions as a tactic to run up billable hours. Mr. Marshall treated my case like it was his only one; despite the fact that I knew he had a heavy case load. He is a man of great character and does not exemplify the attorney stereotype of those seeking only to make a profit. He has my strongest recommendation if you are in need of a professional attorney who not only understands the law, but is highly experienced and cost effective! read more
