A lovely little shopping area with specialist shops. Quite small but a lovely setting with a windmill which is open to the public and a good pub and cafe. Nice little square in the centre to sit out in in good weather. read more

I used the Bureau de Change and they were efficient and friendly as you'd expect. There are always a few holiday offers advertised in the window too. Recent offers I spotted included long stay winter Malta/Costas style holidays, probably popular in a town with its fair share of affluent retired folks who can afford to leave Britain's chilly shores behind for a few weeks in the winter months. All in all a typical local travel agent.

I booked a holiday with them a couple years ago and they were very helpful and made the process easy and stress free. The holiday was very enjoyable too! :-) My recent experience with them was with the Bureau de Change that they have within the shop and the member of staff was really friendly and pleasant. I'd originally planned to get my currency from the Post Office but one look at the queue there made me decide to pop into Thomson's instead and I'm glad I did.

Recently I looked into several holiday options and on all occasions Thomas Cook tried very hard to not only beat previous quotes but also to get an even cheaper price! They also threw in some free upgrades as a thankyou! I'd avoid here on Saturdays and Sundays - Its a fairly small branch and there's not really space for more than 5-6 consultants at any one time. You can sometimes wait for 20-30 mins for an adviser and then you feel pressure to speed up on decision - not by the staff - but by the rest of the queue

Lancaster Railway Station is a medium sized train station with five platforms (ok, six platforms,…read morebut platform six has been closed for years). It is handy for services to and through the city of Lancaster. Virgin run trains through here between London and Birmingham to Glasgow and Edinburgh. Transpenine express run a few more to Edinburgh and Glasgow, as well as to Preston and Manchester Airport. Northern operate local and regional trains to closer stations including Leeds. It's an old station and originally opened in 1846 but it was remodelled between 1900-1906 which gave it the mock-Elizabethan style it has now. It's quite nice and is bright and airy with indoor waiting rooms. However, there's a distinct lack of businesses on the platforms and it could very much benefit from an extra cafe (it has a Costa) or a pub. There is at least one shop, a small newsagents. The station is easy to get around and is accessible and well signposted. It has a car pack and plenty of space for bikes, including bike racks and lockers. There are no ticket gates here, as of June 2016. There also doesn't seem to be WiFi, but perhaps I just couldn't connect. I suppose if you needed to work your best bet would be in the Costa.

My experience of the marina is as a user of the sanitary station which is available for boaters on the canal. Facilities include Elsan disposal, toilets, shower, pump out etc. The rubbish disposal facilities are up steps by the side of the sanitary station. The facilities are generally kept reasonably clean and aren't bad as sanitary stations go. There are extensive visitor moorings on the towpath side of the canal with one water point between the long term and visitor moorings. Galgate itself has two pubs, a post office and general stores so people who moor at the marina have everything they need only a short walk away.

There's a good amount of seating for the size and I'm unsure about a cafe but I can't remember there being one (I could be wrong). We went for the squirrel route which takes you south along the coast and then through the woodland and finally to the beach at Formby. The first part of the trip (coastal road) was hard! The wind was against us and it was a struggle to keep going However get your ipod on and keep at it because as soon as you turn off into the woodland the ride becomes a lot more fun :-) The woods was the best part as you got the reward of whizzing down the hills once you'd made it up them! The beach was quiet, although very windy and it started to rain a bit so we headed back. The way back was a lot easier once the wind was behind us. There and back was about 18 miles and took us about 2 1/2 hours. It's a shame we had to catch our train home because it would have been nice to stay on the beach a bit longer and we might of been able to join onto another of the routes when we got back to the main road. I would definitely hire from here again and try one of the other routes. Or maybe do the squirrel one again and spend longer down at the beach if it's a nice day.
