The sampler platter was one delight after another, and hands down the best hummus we have ever had. The lamb shank was second to none, and it took all we had not to order another one. A must visit.

We arrived at 8:30 pm and were seated promptly. At first glance it doesn't look that big however, we were ushered downstairs and found another whole dining room. The decor is very rustic, inviting and lovely. We were trying to figure out if they would notice we carried on of the tables out with us when we left. Service was the best we have received since arrive in England. Very personable, friendly, attentive without hovering. They kept the drinks flowing almost as quickly as we were drinking and ordering them. The food was out of this world. Old world Moroccan, as the owner is from Morocco and take pride in what he serves. There were a variety of dishes ordered: We started with the Azouma and Vegetarian Mix Mezze for mains we ordered a variety of dishes: Lamb Tagine with Prunes, Chicken Tagine (with preserved lemons), Meat Ball Tagine, Vegetarian Tagine, and Lamb Shawarma. The side of Couscous were cooked perfectly. I ordered the Lamb Tagine with Prunes (Slow cooked lamb, prunes, caramelised pears, onions and toasted almonds, with sweet and savoury spices). It is to-date the best lamb that I have had since arrive in England. Most of the lamb so far has had a gamey taste and typically very fatty; this was neither. It was lean, tender and flavoured to perfection. I was also fortunate to try the Baklava - the BEST I've ever had. With ample amounts of flowing drinks, apps, five mains and two desserts the total bill came to about £35 pp. There is limited street parking, best to use the lot across Broad St (Queningate Car Park) close to the wall. You only pay until 9 pm.

The main dining room downstairs is a long, narrow space with limited buffer between tables. That was fine for an early Saturday lunch, but I imagine it makes for an unbearably loud experience when the place gets busy. Service was extremely friendly and made you feel welcomed. Quite a few regulars dropped by for a quick lunch while we were there, adding to the overall warm ambience. I ordered the tajine with lamb, prunes, and almonds. It had a ton of broth but wasn't served with any bread to soak it up. I also didn't find it particularly filling. If I were to return, I'd stick to the couscous as that received better praise from my fellow diners and appeared to be what all the regulars were ordering. Prices also took me by surprise given these are inexpensive dishes to make. As a minor concession, you can get a free kir house cocktail with your 2016 carte Chti. Unless I were in the area in desperate need of a couscous, I'd go with another option.

I went for the Merguez, but that is really a small part of the meal. It is mostly about the couscous and the vegetable broth (if that is the word) that comes with it. I've loved Moroccan food since discovering it in Paris and this was very similar to what I remember having there, right down to the sweet potatoe and olives starter with matchsticks.. The waiter here was a really nice friendly guy, although I did take his warning regarding the spiciness of the chilli sauce as a challenge to use the job lot on my couscous. It was hot, but not deadly.
