My son attended daycare/preschool here at Little Inspirations. It was absolutely wonderful. Staff was fantastic, programming was outstanding, the meals were homemade and smelled amazing. Exactly what you would dream to get from any place for your little one. We attended Tot Lot and Nature Club, both aimed at toddlers. Both fantastic. My son is mad every Wednesday now because he has to go to Kindergarten instead of doing more Nature Club. We do afterschool care a couple days a week, and also sometimes send my son for the school vacation day programs. (It is so incredibly helpful to be able to sign him up for fun programming on week days when their is no school! And luckily it's fun enough that he doesn't complain about going!) I as a parent have done caregiver fitness classes (I really need to start going again!!!!) I have also played badminton.

I am sure it is a fun place that encourages kids to be active and engage in team work. Please check it out! It can be sometimes 'crawling' with politicians (years ago I saw Toni Preckwinkle) and today was no exception, Ald Sophie King was behind the grill, but I spotted Bears legend OTIS WILSON! I got a pic with him too! The breakfast was well organized, in the gymnasium, with stations for pancakes, coffee/tea, blueberries/whipped cream/syrup, and bacon/sausages.

Although the Chicago Park District website lists Senka Park as part of the Chicago Lawn…read moreneighborhood, I noticed another website that states that Senka Park is on the west end of Gage Park - the neighborhood, not the park. I always thought of it as part of the Gage Park Neighborhood, so I am not quite sure what the Park District website is thinking. HISTORY This park was named after Edward "Duke" Senka. He was a Phys Ed Instructor and Chicago Park District employee who became Supervisor of Recreation. Chicago Park District website has more details. This park area has really changed in more recent years (the 1990's - - that's recent to me!). It went from being pretty much just a wild, grassy, weedy field with a sign at the sw corner of 55th Street and St. Louis Avenue designating that it was "Senka Park" (when really it was just a wild, grassy, weedy field) to a very nice stretch of park property. I was pretty surprised when I witnessed the transformation of this piece of land. BUILDING It is a pleasant park but rather different than the usual larger parks. The fieldhouse is in Socorro Sandoval Elementary School at 5534 S. St. Louis Avenue. Although the address is on St. Louis Avenue, the building is set back and a bit west of the actual street. Also, it gets a bit confusing because the Chicago Park District lists Senka Park's address as 5656 S. St. Louis Avenue yet their website shows a picture of the school entrance at 5534 S St. Louis Avenue. Senka Park "Fieldhouse" (in the school) has short hours, so I have never had an opportunity to personally check it out. Speaking of hours - - it seems to only be open in the evening. I have only been there earlier in the day and I am not aware of any restroom facilities - - this can be a problem. PARKING There are diagonal parking spaces on St Louis Avenue from 55th to 57th Streets. THE GROUNDS The park has a playground and a spray pool for the younger children. There is a football /soccer field, baseball diamond, basketball court and outdoor track. They used to have some nice tables with seats, but that was about five years ago. I was disappointed to not see them today. It used to be a nice place to sit with a cup of coffee early in the morning. Chicago Park District - Review #2 Gage Park, My Neighborhood - Review #19
