I was hoping for a more personalized experience and maybe some guidance from a knowledgeable staff member on choosing a good bottle. I came in during the middle of a workday and was the only customer in the store, yet the man behind the counter didn't speak to me or offer any assistance the entire time I was there. I was also disappointed to later discover that the bottle I purchased was very heavily marked up. The same wine was available at H-E-B for significantly less. I understand that a specialty wine shop may charge a premium, and I'm happy to pay a little more when that comes with knowledgeable recommendations and personalized service. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience here, so I won't be returning.

We…read morestopped in during a crawl and ended up lingering longer than planned, which feels like the best compliment you can give a place. We enjoyed a glass or two of wine, tossed some darts, and soaked in the relaxed, unpretentious vibe. It is casual in the right way. Easy to talk, easy to stay, and not trying too hard to be anything other than a solid local bar. The real highlight, though, is Posty the bar cat. An adorable black and white cat who clearly runs the place. Getting to know Posty outside was an unexpected and genuinely charming moment that made the stop memorable. If you are a cat person, this alone will win you over. Even if you are not, it is hard not to smile. Great drinks, darts, friendly energy, and a bar cat that steals the show. Post Beer & Wine is exactly the kind of place you hope to find when hopping around Houston, and absolutely worth a stop even if you are not on a crawl.

Well, I have a little story I'd like to share. One day, I was searching for liquor stores downtown…read moreother than Specs, looking for a specific brand of liquor. Since I work downtown, several upscale liquor stores appeared on my Apple Maps. I called to inquire. The person who answered was patient and provided excellent customer service. Over the phone, he put me on hold, then came back and said, "Yes, ma'am, we do have it, but only one left. Don't worry, we close at nine. I'll hold it for you," and I appreciated his kindness. I told him I was on my way. When I arrived, he had the bottle ready for me, and I thanked him. I also asked how long the store had been there; he mentioned about five years. I realized I had driven past that place countless times without noticing it--it's kind of tucked away on the corner. We started chatting, and I was delighted to find out he was the owner. That moment meant a lot to me--not just because the store is close to my job, but because it's a Black-owned business, which truly touched my heart. I couldn't help but smile from ear to ear when he shared that. I vowed that from then on, this would be my go-to liquor store. There are three employees there, and they are the most welcoming, pleasant people I've ever met. Over the past few months, they've gotten to know me, and every visit is always a warm experience. Yesterday, I went in to get my usual, and I was greeted with friendly smiles and genuine warmth--"Hey, how's it going? How are things? Just getting off work? Good to see you." I had requested a bottle of Chardonnay, but one of the staff members accidentally ordered Moscato instead. It was no big deal, and he apologized, saying he'd get the correct one for me. Then, unexpectedly, he said, "Do me a favor--take this bottle of Chardonnay and try it. Tell me what you think." He didn't have to do that; I truly believe he did it because that's just who he is, not just because I'm a regular customer. I was about to decline, but he insisted, so I accepted. Just then, a woman from the back, smiling warmly, introduced herself as one of the owners. I'd never seen her before, but she explained she was listening and wanted to come say hello, expressing her appreciation for my support. It warmed my heart in a way words can't fully express. Moments like that remind me that showing kindness and respect doesn't cost anything. It's just about being human and compassionate. As long as Price Liquors is open, they will always have my support. Thank you, Posh.

Now I've heard and been to the DMV's version of a "drive-through" liquor store but they had the feel of a fast food place where you drive up outside. Beverage Barn you literally drive into and surrounding you on BOTH sides are all kinds of liquor and beers IN ALL SIZES! I felt like I was on "Supermarket Sweep" as I was slow rolling through the Barn. The prices are standard as well-even though one would think they'd upcharge a tiny bit to accommodate for the beverage runners but my purchase was pleasingly priced!

How have I never reviewed Saint Arnold Brewing Company?!…read more It's the longest running craft brewery in Texas, having won countless national awards. Though I don't drink beer anymore, I love that they do have a line of ciders and sparkling water at the brewery; and they have a few wine options. Most recently, I had their pizza margherita (made with cauliflower pizza crust, per my request). It was surprisingly very good! I wasn't expecting much, but it was crispy and had zesty pesto sauce that made it even better. If you don't want to order from their kitchen, they do have food trucks and other artisan vendors, entertainment. Do a tour if you can. It's kid and dog-friendly. And it's a great spot to watch some sports on their big screen with views of the downtown Houston skyline. Also, love that SA supports so many non-profit events. High community involvement...

I guess I should have read the fine print which didn't mention lettuce but how can you call something a salad that doesn't have any kind of green leaves? The space itself is very nice inside, the kind of brewery my girlfriend would like. It's bright, large windows, clean and lots of plants. They don't do flights on game days even if no one is in line and there are like 10 people in the brewery. The 1st time I came, this rule made sense but the second time they had damn near as many workers as customers. So, I have only tried 3 beers. A stout that I didn't care for and 2 IPA's that were pretty good. There is no food onsite and the 2 times that I was there, I didn't see a food truck either. My fiancé and I were in town for a concert and stopped at this local haunt to keep the vibes going. Struck up a conversation with John, longtime bartender of twenty years, who is just as interesting as the wine bar itself! One night at this place was just not enough. The dim lights, paintings, old brick walls, the jukebox. Everything was so cool! And we hope that it continues to remain that way. Heading back to Austin with my faith restored in humanity.
