Billy Basin - Absolutely great customer care- and a nice cup of tea!

Normally, I'm not much of a beauty queen. I am not a follower of fashion, and don't collect shoes…read moreor handbags. I also have a bit of a phobia about having my hair cut, as I've had quite a few really dire hair cuts. I also find it difficult to justify the exorbitant prices top salons charge. I worry that a hair dresser (or stylist) will judge a cut by how much hair is on the floor, rather than what's left on my head. However, when a friend suggested Billy Basin, I thought I'd give it a try, despite the costs. This Hampton Hill High Street salon is an upper end (for non-London, non-celebrity place) establishment. You won't get a cheap and cheerful cut here - you become fully aware of this when you walk in and see the opulent reception desk, the expensive hair product, and the complete lack of cheesy 'hair style' posters on the walls. All the staff are dressed in black (including the Saturday girls), and all, as you might expect, have fashionable hair cuts. Once you're in, you'll be asked what you're hoping to have done (you will have specified what procedures - i.e. colour - you are wanting when you made the appointment) and what you'd like to drink - anything from coffee to wine to Diet Coke (my usual option). You'll then be taken to have your hair washed and your head massaged. The head massage is one of the highlights of the experience. I either have a wash, cut and blow dry, or half a head of highlights and then the wash, cut and blow dry - I have my hair coloured about twice a year. I get the same person (Renate) to do it each time, and she has a note of the colours I like (different shades of golden blonde - just a bit lighter than my dishwater blonde natural colour) on the computers. I now trust her completely. She has a good knowledge of which products won't weigh my hair down, and how much 'styling' I like having done. She is also friendly without being nosy. Renate is not the most expensive stylist there - like many top salons, having your hair done by the owners and partners will cost you more. However, I pay around £35 for the wash, cut and blow dry alone, and over £100 for the colour as well. This is not a cheap option (which explains why I have my hair cut and coloured so seldom). However, it is a real treat, and I do walk out feeling a million dollars (and a few pounds lighter)

There isn't much that needs to be said about this hair salon apart from £13.50 haircuts. That's…read moreright ladies. £13.50. And that is not just for a trim - that is the entire cost of a haircut. (With a rough dry - a blow dry is a few pounds more). I am gutted that I will soon be moving, because this place is around the corner from me and yet I have only just discovered it! I think that I had ignored it because it looks like the type of hair salon that just caters to the old dears and their set and blow dries. When I walked past there were plenty of blue rinses going on. But then a friend of mine had a hair cut here, and looked fantastic, so I thought I would give it a try. My hairstylist knew how to sort my unruly mop out and give it some definition. She said that a lot of people were under the impression that it was a geriatric hair salon and so stayed away - but once they came in they were converted. Especially for the prices. With my stylist, Dawn, the most you would pay for a full head of highlights, cut and blowdry would be £65.00. Like I said, I will be back!

I'm a regular at Mivida. I only like to get my haircut, highlights, and eyebrows threaded by Vida…read morewho is the owner. She is very careful and focused when she does your hair and eyebrows. She is very skilled as well which means my hair and eyebrows are done at a very high standard. I always leave the salon happy with the results because I feel comfortable telling her if I'd like my hair shorter or eyebrows thinner - she doesn't do the "know-it-all/not possible" thing that many stylists do when asked for tweaks here and there. Vida is very keen to please and even threaded my nostrils once or twice upon request even though it's not a service she offers normally! You have to book an appointment if you don't want to be disappointed though because they get booked up. I will remain a regular of Vida unless someone more talented and cheaper comes along, but I doubt that will happen.

Could this be the worst Hairdressing Salon in London?"…read more This is the worst experience i have ever had at a hairdresser. I am writing this review as a warning to other people not to part with their hard earned cash at this salon. This is the worst hair treatment i have ever had. I was in tears after i left the salon. I paid for a hair straightening treatment and my hair were curled by the time I had my first hair wash. I was even suffering from burned scalp. I called and asked the owner why it went wrong, she started shouting at me over the phone saying it was my fault. My entire experience from start to finish was awful. I visited this salon a week later only to listen to abuse and being physically pushed off, and all I asked was a solution to my spoiled hair. I was lied to from the beginning and they even tried to overcharge me when I paid. If you don't want to ruin your hair, want to be abused and go through mental trauma, please avoid this awful hairdresser

In my ongoing quest to find a solution to the Hair Problem, which is thus -…read more a)I don't have much money to spend on haircuts b) My hair is a lions mane which needs regular, almost weekly trims to tame it. - I have ventured into SuperCuts. They must be the answer to my problem, right? They are cheap, ergo they are the solution! However, with all the add- ons, like wash and blow dry, they are still not cheap as chips cheap, and a haircut can add up to about £30.00. Also, I am not thrilled about the idea that I can't book. I know that this is the system, but that means that if I want my hair cut I have to sit and wait a really long time, usually in between school kids who look at me as if to say. 'Really, you can't afford a proper haircut?'. So, I have had a couple of cuts here, one of them was alright, but one time I was given something that resembled a truckers mullet, and no, Shoreditch people, I had not asked for an ironic hairstyle! So, the hair quest continues......

Awful. I'm a guy,…read moreI asked for a pretty simple short back and sides, and paid £15 for it. That's a lot for a mans haircut. The woman who cut my hair either had some sort of motor neuron dysfunction, or had been drinking. She hacked at my head like a lunatic, bashing the clippers into the sides of my skull with wild abandon. She's left me with a distinct line in my hair on one side, and big tufts shooting out all over. At first I thought maybe this is just how the kids are wearing their hair these days, but after checking with my fiance she has confirmed that it's just a really terrible haircut. AWFUL.
