From black nail varnish, smoking paraphernalia, flavoured tobaccos, pipes, bright hair dyes, tutus and then the usual ciggies, choccies and drinks. The confused quirky concoction on offer here seems to be related to the close proximity of Quiggins (which it has relocated from). If 1847even is Heaven then Quiggins is the God of the alternative. A must on the route to a Halloween party or you know, in the more frequent/likely event that you need a new lighter or whatever- but if I so fancied I could purchase some fuchsia pink dye, studs and a black-netted skirt to re-live my teens in proper style.

Sadly, Quiggin's has now been turned into a wanky suit shop by the Liverpool One developers, snatching the place of over 25 independent retailers and the memories of thousands of Liverpool's public. It still has the same staff that served me when I was a fourteen year old with orange dyed hair running around Quiggins in a baggy Nirvana hoody and Fubu jeans..drunk! This place is an Aladdin's cave for stoners and those who like weird and alternative bits and bobs, they sell bongs, skins, pipes, incense sticks, sweets, and loads of different herbal remedies and flavoured tobaccos. I've actually never seen anything like it before but I suppose it makes sense. They have really good deals on beers and cider here but the deals on the wine aren't that great. Obviously in reality I'll probably never find one like this, especially in Lydiate, but I'll always live in fear of Tubbs appearing from behind the counter. As it is, Lydiate Village Store is a great place to go if you're looking for some essentials and you can't be arsed trekking to the supermarket, for fear of seeing someone you know or just because you're worried you might get lost in there. They offer a good range of goods including frozen foods, tinned goods, bread and milk as well as beverages of the alcoholic variety, perfect for those nights when you don't fancy a supermarket trip or an off-licence either. The prices are usually a little bit more expensive than the supermarkets but you're paying for the convenience of having it around the corner and all in one small shop, so I guess you can't really complain, can you?

Dr Herman's specialise in legal highs and drug related paraphernalia. They stock a wide range if bongs, pipes, skins, ashtrays, and legal highs. They were a prime location for buying Methadrone just before it became illegal last month. They have also been known to stock BZP and many other strong legal alternatives. The staff are very helpful in recommending you what drug is best for you if you're after an alternate buzz for a night out, including the recommended dosage etc. They are also very passionate about their job which is.. Interesting! One thing is certain, as certain as the bold poster as you enter the store.. contrary to popular belief .. 'THEY DO NOT SELL WEED!' Although this very convenient newsagent does still sell tobacco at least its marketing is not solely based on the damaging habit. The usual range of newsagent goodies are readily available and you can certainly stock up for your train journey on the way into the station. The days when shops like Supernews had the market to themselves are long gone and you are in the station concourse presented with other options for your sweet tooth. My own addiction to the news itself draws me in on my return journeys from Formby and a morning and an evening edition are frequently purchased on the same day while I try to forget the sweet temptations and my favourite T-bone steak Roysters which are on offer far too often for my waistline's good.

There are 2 aisles with shelves in the middle displaying items on offer such as crisps, sweets etcetera. There is quite a good selection of newspapers and magazines, sometimes with discounts available. You can often pick up a bargain or 2 and get a cheap drink or some 3 for 2 bars of chocolate! Service is pretty rough and ready but nothing to complain about. Worth calling in if you are passing by.
