However, driving there takes less than 10 minutes. I filled my asthma inhaler prescription at 3am. Why 3am? Because silly me was too lazy to do it during the day and my flight was in a couple of hours. The pharmacist who was on duty and I had a great conversation about being from the Caribbean. Plus, it took 8 minutes for her to fill my 'scription. That never happens during regular business hours. You won't find much people on staff or that even want to help you. They are usually too bubbly for late night or are dead on their feet. It doesn't bother me though. After shopping here for so long, I'm pretty much a seasoned vet and don't need any help navigating the aisles. I can however spent an inordinate amount of time in here figuring out what I need, picking up things I don't need, and then rationalizing that I'm about to spend double than what I estimated. But since they don't close, I don't have to rush and I can take all the time I need--even until 5am...I'm not saying that's happened before but--it has.

It's not quite like bringing lunch from home, but close enough that I can pretend. And maybe it's because my home grocery store is price-gouging Metro, but there are some serious deals to be had of you're in on a relatively regular basis - deals I've never seen at another Shoppers (granted, I'm normally just in two others.) Milk is cheaper, cheese goes on sale for $3 a block and they have an extra selection of tchotchkes without the Halloween costumes and excess of holiday cheer. A star is lost for the limited staff on hand at checkout, especially on the many Senior's Days they hold. Pouting even as I type this. For real.

After having devoured a huge dessert for dinner, I needed to get a gift card for a colleague whose last day with the company was last Friday. I decided to stop by this Shoppers Drug Mart to buy one. What seems to be eons ago, when I took summer school courses at York University's main campus, I would drop by Shoppers Drug Mart in this area to browse. After all, it was around 9:30 pm and it was one of the few places that was open. Back then, the store was on the northwest corner of Dufferin and Steeles, probably where 168 Sushi currently is. I suppose good habits are hard to break. It was just before 9 pm when I parked in this plaza's lot. There was plenty of parking. The lot layout is a bit weird. You basically carve your own pathway as you drive. I walked in. Its layout is what you typically expect at SDM. I found the gift card section quickly. I got a restaurant one where you can specify how much money you'd like to load on the card. The customers in this area seem to be pressed for time or know that the apocalypse is coming. One person carrying a cart wanted me and another customer to get out of the way. Um, okay. Maybe he needed to unwind by shopping without a cart. Most folks like to shop calmly without having their lives threatened by a maniac with a shopping cart wanting to run folks down. I managed to nab a bottle of unsalted peanuts. They were on sale. I like them as a snack. I cashed out and had a wonderful, friendly cashier. I asked to load $50 on the gift card. Done! We both wished each other a great evening and I walked to my car with my goods. It's a decent store for all my needs. I hope that when I return, the mix of customers is better. (384)

Beauty products right at the front entrance, the pharmacy at the back, photo department off to a corner, frozen food section, plus all the other items in the aisles to cover all your basic needs. This location is open from 8am - Midnight 7 days a week. It's a little different because it offers some asian foods in the snack section and the full sized Justin Beiber poster is deep inside the store to avoid it from getting stolen I suspect. You know you want it. :p

I was led to a little room where they do pharmacy consults. The room had a door, so the rest of the store couldn't see me hum away my fear of needles. The pharmacist was very kind and patient, and I barely felt the needle at all, which was pretty incredible. All was said and done in about 5 minutes. After that, they asked me to stay in the store and check back in 15 minutes to make sure I wasn't feeling faint, sick, or anything. Everything was fine and I went on my merry way. In terms of parking, there's parking behind the store, entrance from Invermay.

The owner/pharmacist went to school at UofT and decided to come back to the area to open up this business, which I think is pretty neat. He was very helpful when I went in to fill prescriptions for the first time, and was welcoming to the neighbourhood when he learnt i'd just moved nearby. He even called to my old pharmacy to move my existing prescriptions, and has been great about getting orders done when I call in ahead of picking up. They have a small range of miscellaneous products you'd find at just about any pharmacy - snacks, misc health products, greeting cards, etc etc. Dispensing fees are pretty on par with most pharmacies, and just above places such as Walmart. Shorter hours mean that in a pinch for emergency prescriptions and products I might have to go elsewhere, but i'll stick with them for my regular prescriptions for sure. Overall, a win! Nice to have an owner-operated pharmacy in the neighbourhood.
