Beautiful historic building to enjoy the eetcafé (eating lunch or dinner, non expensive, "common"…read morefoods) and the covered or uncovered patio for drinks and small bites. Plenty of beer choices and some wine choices. I had dinner with friends, and I choose a vegetable stir fry with wild rice and salad. Delicious! It's a relatively affordable place to eat and drink and you can't beat the scenery or the fact you can watch people on the market place. My favorite eetcafé in this town for sure

After driving two and a half hours to Valkenswaard last week to meet up with my cousin from Israel…read morewho was in the country a few days for business, we weren't super picky on what we wanted to eat and just entered the first restaurant we came across, that happened to be In de sleutel. Let me start by saying that I enjoyed the food, service and of course my company. So why only two stars then? Price and promises. The food was far too expensive for what was basically a small step up from bar food as it's both a restaurant and a bar. Eighteen euros for a fairly small serving of pork loin with chips is rather ridiculous. The pasta however is reasonably priced and so is beer. Tea and coffee? Overpriced again. The real disappointment however was dessert. It tasted fine but the promise, oh the promise! A duo of chocolate with house made chocolate mousse and fondant. Emphasis on the house made. Not their house but the house of whomever lives in the food factory. I know a mass produced chocolate fondant when I see one and I know a mass produced chocolate mousse when I taste it! Honestly, it's not that difficult to make a delicious chocolate mousse, especially not when you're only serving one quenelle per person, you don't even have to make more than one batch for an entire service! Anyway, HUGE pet peeve of mine: the promise of house made food and receiving something that was store-bought at a fraction of the consumer cost. Don't sell me store-bought food without being honest of it's store-boughtness. I really don't expect a restaurant/bar to make everything from scratch but I do expect that once that is what's promised, that's what I'll get for seven and a half euros!

KoffieTentje is a very cute, small and stylish coffee bar. There's a very calm and laid back atmosphere making it perfect to sit in and unwind while enjoying your coffee (and perhaps a piece of brownie? Trust me, their brownies are amazing.) While ordering my coffee, I've chatted with the owner a few times and to simply put it, she's incredibly nice and welcoming. She doesn't mind having a little chat and seems genuinely interested. So if you're looking for great coffee, either for sitting in or taking it with you on your trip to work or university - KoffieTentje is the right choice!

Though I'd never say that Dutch coffee is bad, I'd maybe say that sometimes it can lack a full flavour. So to say that in the first month since opening I've darkened KoffieTenTje's door nearly a dozen times, I'm very impressed with their coffee. The interior is friendly, earthly and modern, and the music is always good (a mix of chilled electronica and folk). The vibe very much reminds me of a less busy Five Elephants (Berlin-based coffee heaven). Lastly I have to say something about the woman who owns it; basically she's lovely. Welcoming, happy, remembers you and your order. I've chatted with her a few times, sometimes in Dutch, more often in English and she's always chatty. In short; great coffee, great atmosphere, great owner.
