Glad I listened to him on both accounts. Great food, great ambiance, and exceptional service. Really enjoyed the portions and the flavor of the food. Really enjoyed the strong drinks we ordered. Portion sizes were really up my alley as I expect to be getting a good amount of food for the price. Would HIGHLY recommend.

The fries were nothing special but the main was a tasty intro to local food, with a side of apple sauce to clean the palate. Mandarin sorbet was tasty and not overly sweet. It has some floral notes, perhaps honey? A lot of things are decorated with this amusing drawing of a man and woman at dinner. The man is licking his plate while the woman is holding it up like a mirror. Inside is on the smaller side, though I may be comparing to American size. It does get kind of loud.

About two great beers and 40 minutes later, two huge bowls of mussels arrived with fries. Delicious and very enjoyable. Maybe more fries would have been nice but I went deep into the mussels and in the end, they won. I simply could not finish them. But I got far enough in that I was able to dip some fries in and it was delicious. One ding was that their credit card machine "didn't work" despite a good ten minutes of trying. With that much effort, I'm leaning towards a legit failure. [Review 12096 overall, 1879 of 2019.]

Anyone who has ever been to basically any country in the EU knows that people take their fries…read moreseriously. RPEL is a cool hipster joint that serves fries made from organic potatoes here in the city of Eindhoven in the southern part of the Netherlands. The vibe is cool and ambience is hip and casual. The Dutch people consider fries to be their main course, not an appetizer. Therefore places like this are quite packed during lunch and dinner times. RPEL also has gourmet dipping sauces to accompany your fries with such as mayo, Belgian mayo, BBQ, curry sauce, applesauce (a German thing) and their new citrus and truffle mayos. The citrus had the nice touch of actual lime zest sprinkled on it, and the truffle mayo was definitely delicious. They also have a variety of other friend foods to snack on. Yes. Yes I would definitely go back.

I would come back to Belgischer Hof the next time I am in Cologne.

Best authentic fries within the whole entire tiny country. The place is always packed with people,…read moreeven though seating is limited. The fries are cut fresh, and taste very authentic (not comparable with anything in the U.S.). The owner is very friendly, and does his job with passion. Tip: I had some friends disliking their fries because they usually serve it with Belgian mayo, which is a sour version of the sweet Dutch fry sauce I like. So ask for fry sauce instead of the Belgian mayo. Way more sweeter rather than sour, and less fat I can say.

Therefore you will find people from all walks of life, waiting in line, for that potato goodness. Since the Dutch and the Belgians can't have their fries without a sauce, you have a wide selection to choose from (if you like it hot, try the samurai sauce). Of course they offer the usual Dutch snacks like the frikandel, but the thing that makes this place special is the potato chips.

Located steps from the main campus of Maastricht University is caters to a mixed crowd from 20's-70's. We were there twice in one day which says a lot. The seasonal menu is posted on a giant blackboard against the east wall and the beer selection is likewise posted on the south wall. There is also a menu card for their standard offerings. Soups reign supreme here and are offered in giant coffee cup bowls. We had the asparagus soup and were wowed out by the delicate broth and the fresh taste. We also enjoyed the goat cheese salad. I have to admit I do not like goat cheese....I devoured this one. In the evening the place fills up with after work crowd of students and local residents many sharing communal tables. It get quite lively as the night progresses. This a "good time place" and if you aren't having one...it's your own fault. They offer live music most nights and free peanuts with your beer. We always come back.
